Researchers examined data to determine how body shame may interact with: (a) sexual satisfaction, (b) relationship satisfaction, and (c) life satisfaction. Results indicate that body shame and relationship satisfaction account for the greatest amount of variance in life satisfaction for the respondents.","PeriodicalId":153964,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Professional Counseling: Practice, Theory & Research","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122047005","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The participants (N = 168) involved in the study were adolescent males and females aged 12–16 who had been admitted into therapeutic residential care (TRC). Results indicated that depression, disassociation, and anger were the primary trauma symptoms with this population. Implications and recommendations per the evidence-based practice common element approach are included.","PeriodicalId":153964,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Professional Counseling: Practice, Theory & Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122034526","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first issue of Volume 47 has some fantastic contributions from some outstanding authors. First, Stark, Goodrich, Crofts, and Brammer explore the influence of exposure to mental health professionals on knowledge of those professions. In this article, the authors replicate previous work on the topic and highlight similarities and differences between their results and the original study. Their findings are important for how counselors communicate with their clients about their professional roles. Second, Coll, Sawyer, Fear, Scholl, and Hauser discuss the use of the Trauma Symptom Checklist for Children (TSCC) for adolescents in a residential setting. First, the authors explore the differences between a sample of adolescents in a residential setting and the norming group for the assessment. Then, they discuss best practices for administration, scoring, and interpretation of the assessment for adolescents in this setting. Finally, McLean, La Guardia, Watts, and Nelson delve into the relationship between body shame and life satisfaction in women. The authors highlight the interrelationship between sexual satisfaction, relationship satisfaction, and body shame, and how all of these relate to life satisfaction. They also discuss the importance of addressing these aspects in counseling. All three articles provide interesting and unique contributions with important implications for counselors. Joshua and I are so excited to share them with you. We are always on the lookout for quality submissions, please just be sure to review our author guidelines prior to submitting. In addition, the journal has now officially moved to APA 7th Edition style. This means that any new manuscripts submitted (as of March 1st) need to be in the new format. We’re excited that two full issues of the Journal of Professional Counseling: Practice, Theory & Research have been dedicated to highlight the important role of the professional school counselor and the collaboration with other mental health professionals and community organizations. The variety of topics in this issue digs into the collaborative spirit of school counseling. First, Lenares-Solomon et al. present school-based mental health services as a component of wraparound services. Next, Hodges and McDonald present information on mandated reporting for child abuse and the role school counselors play in the reporting process, as well as information on a data collection tool for documentation. Then, ZiomekDaigle and Heckman discuss mental and behavioral challenges that typically arise in school situations, with school counselors poised as uniquely qualified to facilitate the prevention and intervention programs based on a tiered framework. Finally, Eckhardt McLain presents a plan for novice school counselors to ensure success in the profession. Whether you are a new school counselor, or a counselor with years of experience, these articles will inspire you to think of different capacities we can continue to enhance our development to ensure Texas school students receive the benefits of a comprehensive school counseling program. The Texas School Counseling Association is gearing up for our annual Professional School Counseling conference to be held February 9–11, 2020, in San Antonio, Texas. This conference is designed specifically for professional counselors providing services in educational settings for elementary and secondary students. There will be a variety of programs focusing on Advocacy, Behavioral Interventions, Career Development, College Readiness, Comprehensive School Counseling Programs, Crisis Response, Multicultural and Social Justice, Professional and Legal Issues, Social and Emotional Learning, Substance Abuse and Addictions, Technology, Trauma and Grief, Wellness and Self-Care, and more. This article discusses the mental health issues faced by students, how they adversely affect student performance, and the burnout that professional school counselors may experience due to the lack of needed resources to serve the students adequately. Professional counselors working in these settings should be aware of how the working alliance contributes to crisis stabilization. Using a quasi-experimental between-subjects design, we examined female and male ratings of the working alliance when working with female counselors in an acute care behavioral hospital. A statistically significant difference was found indicating that female and male adolescent clients rated the working alliance differently, with males rating it higher than females.
