Over four sessions of classroom-based training, participants learned and practiced the application of SFCI in a CISM structure. A constant comparison method was used to produce five overarching themes: intentionality, becoming solution-focused informed, integration of new ideas, questions as interventions, and CIRT self-care. The addition of SFCI empowered the participants to employ tools that promote each individual’s strength and resource building for impacted peers.","PeriodicalId":153964,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Professional Counseling: Practice, Theory & Research","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124149200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While much attention is given to survivors and perpetrators of bullying, there is a need to continue to understand the importance of bystanders. Bystanders can have a critical influence on bullying. In some contexts, bystanders may contribute to the noxious effects of bullying. In other contexts, they can significantly reduce the consequences of bullying. Understanding the types of bystanders and their effects on bullying can reduce bullying rates. This article reviews the literature on bystanders and bystander intervention in bullying situations.","PeriodicalId":153964,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Professional Counseling: Practice, Theory & Research","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117287838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is a paucity of research into this population’s experiences. Eight Texas providers were interviewed using a series of open ended questions. Data was analyzed using investigator triangulation to ascertain and affirm common themes. Themes included the value of medication-assisted treatment and improved quality of life, client complexity, and challenges within medication-assisted treatment programs, as well as the significance of treating the client as a person. Implications and recommendations for future research are discussed.","PeriodicalId":153964,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Professional Counseling: Practice, Theory & Research","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124484597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Work addiction is overworking at the expense of life balance. COVID-19 disrupted K-12 schools and counseling delivery services nationwide. Like many other front-line helping professionals, school counselors responded to the complex and challenging work conditions created by the COVID-19 pandemic. The authors examined life balance and work addiction among 145 practicing school counselors nationwide. The results of a multiple regression analysis examined the extent to which stress/anxiety and sleep disturbance predicted work addiction. We discuss the findings in light of practice and research.","PeriodicalId":153964,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Professional Counseling: Practice, Theory & Research","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128680729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a factor analytic approach, we also examined the Career-Sustaining Behaviors Questionnaire’s (CSBQ) internal structure to see how the career-sustaining behaviors to group together. Finally, we compared scores on the CSBQ to participants’ job satisfaction and burnout. The findings provide insight into the CSBQ dimensions and how school counselors’ preferences for particular self-care strategies relate to their well-being. We describe implications for future research that build upon the current study.","PeriodicalId":153964,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Professional Counseling: Practice, Theory & Research","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132725208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yet, they did not consider race and ethnicity. Due to unique aspects of the Hispanic culture, we sought to explore the lived experiences of grit in the Hispanic culture through a phenomenological investigation. We used semi-structured interviews with eight Hispanic participants aged 26 to 63. Three themes emerged: Perseverance in the Process, Collectivist Motivation, and Relational Support. We share implications for counselors and counselor educators working with Hispanic clients and students.","PeriodicalId":153964,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Professional Counseling: Practice, Theory & Research","volume":"15 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132939892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I-CARE encourages counselor trainees to internally reflect on one’s own knowledge, experiences and unintended bias; develop strategies to cultivate relationships with clients; acknowledge realities of living in poverty; and explore interventions to remove barriers. We describe how the I-CARE model may be applied to training school counselors to serve students impacted by poverty. Implications of the model’s use in school counselor preparation are explored, including practical suggestions and directions for future research.","PeriodicalId":153964,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Professional Counseling: Practice, Theory & Research","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115256074","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The United States is amid a pandemic and health care crisis; racial injustice and police brutality crisis; and an economic crisis. Counselors must work from a trauma-informed lens during crisis assessment, intervention, and stabilization to decrease re-traumatizing clients. The Seven-Stage Crisis Intervention Model (SSCIM) guides counselors to assess and stabilize clients in crisis. By infusing trauma-informed principles into this framework, counselors will have the tools they need to minimize the chances of re-traumatization.","PeriodicalId":153964,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Professional Counseling: Practice, Theory & Research","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125063069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
