The study was conducted in Darullughah Wal Karomah MA and MTs, with 6 teachers as the participant. The finding shows that Fun and effective learning is learning done by uploading fun learning videos so that students can finally understand them in full. While the characteristics of elementary school students prefer something interesting, concrete, accompanied by high curiosity. Therefore, researchers developed a water cycle comic media to improve the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students in elementary schools with the purpose of the study to discover the feasibility of a water cycle comic media including validity, practicality, and effectiveness. In its development, researchers used the ADDIE model which consists of five stages with evaluation at each stage. From the results of research on the development of comic media for water cycle material, the percentage obtained from media validity was 95.31%, material validation was 92.5%, and language validation was 93.75%. Furthermore, the practicality data of comic media about the material of the water cycle on the water cycle based on the student response questionnaire was 91.07%. Data on the effectiveness of the water comic cycle media from student learning outcomes in pre-test and post-test activities have a significant increase in n-gain analysis with an average increase of 0.71 which has a \"high\" category. So the use of comic media has an impact on student learning outcomes and student creativity.","PeriodicalId":151829,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Joint Conference on Arts and Humanities (IJCAH 2020)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115248863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of these strategies is called the politeness strategy. Unfortunately, even though the aim of conducting politeness strategy is to build students-teachers interaction, it is found that the students still respond both positively and negatively toward the teachers’ politeness strategies. Specifically, it happens when the teachers deliver feedback to the students’ presentation. This study enlightens the classroom interaction among the teachers and the students by observing two English teachers’ politeness strategies, and interviewing four students toward their teachers’ politeness strategies. The observations are focused on the teachers’ corrective feedback, and the interviews are maintained on the effect of different teachers’ politeness strategy during the students’ presentation. As the key theory, this study use a theory of politeness (Brown and Levinson, 1978), it focuses on the expressions of the Face Threatening Act (FTA) during communication. The result from the classroom observation showed that the teachers frequently use positive politeness, and avoid negative politeness strategy. On the other hand, to avoid the negative responds, the interviews showed that the students prefer their teachers to use positive politeness strategies in giving feedback since the students prefer to get praise.","PeriodicalId":151829,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Joint Conference on Arts and Humanities (IJCAH 2020)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129588854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Without reflecting on their own practice, it is virtually impossible for teachers to identify what they have done well and what needs to be improved. It is essential, therefore, to develop the EFL teachers’ ability to reflect early in the pre-service stage. This study described the reflections performed by EFL pre-service teachers about student teaching. Fifty two pre-service teachers participated voluntarily in this study and wrote a reflective essay about student teaching done in the previous semester. The results showed that most pre-service teachers admitted they needed to improve their skills of classroom management. It was the first time they taught actual students in schools and they found it challenging to cope with various learner characteristics. In addition, they realized their English proficiency and knowledge also needed improvement so they could be good models for the students. Finally, they still grappled in explaining the materials to the students and had to search for the most effective methods to teach English to secondary school students. Based on these findings, some implications for teaching practicum, especially student teaching, were suggested.","PeriodicalId":151829,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Joint Conference on Arts and Humanities (IJCAH 2020)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124485556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
