The form of serious discourse against it is considered very dangerous for the makers and disseminators of it, because the right to freedom of opinion has not been properlygranted. Therefore, the form of humorous discourse is an alternative discourse against thedominant discourse developed by people to tackle Covid-19. As a form of critical discourse,humorous discourse is a social practice that always holds historical and social contexts, resistanceto power, and enforcement of certain ideologies. This research relies on the critical discourse analysis approach (critical discourse analysisapproach) as one of the models in qualitative research, by elaborating 4 approaches, namely thesocial cognition approach, the social change approach, the historical approach, and the French orideological approach. Data in the form of critical humorous discourse on the response to covid-19was collected through accessible social media (WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook). Data wereanalyzed using interpretive methods furhter. This research is expected to find concepts and propositions about (1) the historical andsocial context contained in the critical humorous discourse of the response to covid-19; (2) thediversity of power that is opposed by the critical discourse of humor against the response to covid-19; and (3) ideology that is upheld by a critical discourse of humor against the response to covid-19. Although the concept of an alternate test or an instructor appraisal is a different assessment approach than traditional methods, speaking skill remains a good learning process. The participants of this study were two EFL teachers with classroom teaching experience and alternative assessment practices. This study is qualitative research that used semi-structured interview to evaluate the data and that is the main data from this study. The objectives of this study are: (1) to explain the alternative assessment used by the teachers for evaluating EFL speaking skills, and (2) to describe the challenge faced by English teachers in conducting alternative assessments of EFL speaking skills. The findings showed that English teachers usually use multiple methods, such as peer evaluation and student observation in the class. Teachers focused on their communicative ability and provided authentic material for many group activities to use alternate assessment strategies. Teachers strengthened student participation in activities like role-playing, so that short dialogues, plays, discussions, and presentations could be captured. Teachers have already compiled the students' observations, addressed the exam elements, and posed issues in order to resolve learners. English teachers had difficulties in carrying out alternative assessments of EFL students' speaking abilities like a weak pronunciation and grammar, and a lack of vocabularies among students that makes their students less comfortable and motivated. Teachers also have had no enough time to assess all their learners' credentials.","PeriodicalId":151829,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Joint Conference on Arts and Humanities (IJCAH 2020)","volume":"26 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114117683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
