To solve this problem, the only reliable way is digging fossils. The currently widely accepted earliest age for angiosperms is the Early Cretaceous, although this view is facing increasing challenges from pre-Cretaceous fossil evidence of angiosperms as well as molecular clock estimates. Here we report a Palaeozoic angiosperm, Taiyuanostachya gen. nov. This fossil plant has both enclosed ovules and enclosed seeds, features characteristic of angiosperms. Especially, enclosed ovules are idiosyncratic of angiosperms. The occurrences of both characters in Taiyuanostachya declare that angiosperms, the single most diversified plant group on the Earth, have occurred on the Earth in the Palaeozoic, and the origination of angiosperm appears to be much earlier than assumed previously. Although appearing astonishing, this conclusion is in line with the outcomes of molecular clock estimates done decades ago. The discovery of Taiyuanostachya gen. nov is an abominable challenge for botanists who believe groundlessly that angiosperms cannot exist before the Cretaceous.","PeriodicalId":15066,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Biotechnology and Biomedicine","volume":"78 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85917616","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Abstract Background: Urothelial Bladder Cancer (UBC) is one of the most lethal cancers worldwide, the 5-year survival rate remains poor with platinum-based chemotherapy regimens as the standard of cancer treatment protocol. Recent FDA approval of a programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) inhibitor, atezolizumab, in advanced UBC patients is changing the therapeutic landscape. Although the response to anti-PD-L1 is correlated to PD-L1 expression and tumor mutation burden, the molecule determinants of responsiveness or non-responsiveness to Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor (ICI) is largely unknown. Methods: R package maftools was used for genomic characterization and differential mutational analysis. EdgeR and DysRegSig algorithm were used for differential gene expression and dysregulator analysis. ConcensusTME algorithm was used for deconvolution of cell types within tumor microenvironment from bulk RNAseq data. Result: A published immunotherapy cohort with whole exome sequencing, RNAseq and clinic outcome data for 29 metastatic urothelial cancer patients was used, paralleled with The Cancer Genome Altas (TCGA) Bladder Cancer cohort,","PeriodicalId":15066,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Biotechnology and Biomedicine","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88082368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Participants were randomly assigned to take either two capsules of the probiotic supplement or of placebo. Clinical measures were evaluated at 28-day intervals, included fasting and post-prandial glucose, HbA1c, lipid panel, insulin, creatinine, and serum lipopolysaccharide levels were assessed. Results: The treated group demonstrated a stabilization in their fasting blood glucose and postprandial glucose levels in treated group respect to the Placebo cohort. The HbA1c levels did not show significant changes in the treated group. The insulin levels decreased significantly in the treated group by day 84 compared to day 1 and to day 84 of the Placebo cohort (p=0.024 and p=0.015, respectively). Serum LPS levels also decreased significantly in the treated group (p=0.001). Conclusions: BiotiQuest™ Sugar Shift is suitable as adjunct therapy for the control of T2D. However, the 12-week trial period was not sufficient to detect significant reductions in all clinical parameters measured and a longer study is recommended.","PeriodicalId":15066,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Biotechnology and Biomedicine","volume":"63 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83877294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This hypothesis is based on structural and sequential similarities between the ligand binding and channel domains of iGluR subunits with SBPs and potassium channels. Ligand binding occurs at the interface between two lobed domains in both ligand binding domains (LBDs) and leads to closure of the shell-like structure, which is considered to be a key element in the transition from ligand recognition to ion channel gating in iGluRs. Here we report the functional coupling of the ectoine-binding protein EhuB to the channel pore of the GluR0 receptor. Fusion of an unmodified EhuB-binding protein to the transmembrane domain of GluR0 did not result in activation of the channel pore. Only by stabilizing the inserted EhuB-binding domain with a dimerization interface the resulting chimera was activated by ectoine, resembling the activation properties of other iGluRs. These results demonstrate the functional compatibility of SBPs to the gate of the channel pore of an iGluR and highlight the role of LBD dimerization in the functional evolution of iGluRs. Based on the high specificity and affinity of SBPs for an incredible variety of substrates, our results demonstrate the competence of SBP/ion channel chimeras for the development of new Biosensors for specific recognition of analytes by functionally linking a bacterial binding protein to the channel pore of an iGluR.","PeriodicalId":15066,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Biotechnology and Biomedicine","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134889763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Acute hepatic porphyrias (AEP) includes four different clinical forms: a) from ALA D deficiency, b) acute intermittent porphyria, c) hereditary coproporphyria and d) variegate porphyria. The forms of porphyria are characterized by elevated levels of delta aminolevulinic acid (ALA) and porphobilinogen (PBG). Acute intermittent porphyria (AIP) is caused by a genetic mutation of hydroxymethylbilane synthetase (HMBS), which in a good percentage (about 20% of cases) does not show a positivity for hepatic porphyria on biomolecular examination, so that diagnosis with relative therapy is determined by the clinical condition. Our study describes a 54-year-old woman who, due to a porphyria crisis, presented serious symptoms with progressive aggravation that lead her to be hospitalized in an intensive care unit where she was intubated due to tetraplegia and severe respiratory failure. Treatment with human emin first and Givosiran subsequently allowed progressive amelioration of the clinical conditions.","PeriodicalId":15066,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Biotechnology and Biomedicine","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78524132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Other advantages are presented as the short growth period and can be grown in environments considered unsuitable, which are desirable requirements for use in the production of biofuels. Crambe oil has erucic acid as its main fatty acid, which is not edible, so it is an oil that does not compete with the food industry.
