Along with national policies designed by banking regulator Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for management of credit quality, international best practices have also been implemented by the banking institutions. The Basel Accords proposed by the Basel committee have been provided for strengthening the banking sector and making it more resilient to any economic or financial shocks. Thus, the present study has been carried out with the objective to analyze the association between the recommendations of the most recent Accord by the Basel committee, that is, Basel III, and the credit quality of Indian banking industry. The study has undertaken a sample of 37 domestic commercial banks, examined over a time frame of 5 years (2015–2019). In order to address the endogeneity issue between capital regulations and credit quality representative, non-performing assets (NPA), the two-step system generalized method of moments has been applied for the purpose of regression analysis. The study has found that stringent capital requirements imposed by RBI are helpful in improving the credit quality of banks by reducing NPA. The results have further shown that the non-risk-based leverage ratio brings additional bad loans and, thus, bears an adverse influence on the asset quality of banks. The liquidity risk measure provided by Basel III, liquidity coverage ratio, does not carry any significant impact on NPA of domestic Indian banks. Results of the present study have implications for policymakers and bank management. Iinvestors can also benefit from the study. They can take the results presented on which banks are expected to be faced with a higher credit risk in future and the banking entities holding higher capital buffers which can protect the institutions from future loan losses.","PeriodicalId":15043,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asia-Pacific Business","volume":"23 1","pages":"234 - 253"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47996046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These countries, in addition to the United States, will be Australia, Brunei, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam. The bloc represents an estimated 40% of the global economy. In addition to its membership, IPEF could create global standards for AsiaPacific economies and beyond. This, according to US pronouncements, could bring faster economic growth across Asia-Pacific economies. Currently, the US GDP growth rate for 2022 is expected to be 2.8%, while that of China will be 2%. The position of the United States is that of strength and represents a shift away from the unfounded notion that China would be there to overtake the United States. The United States will continue to be the leading economy, and China will continue to be the second-largest economy. Nevertheless, there are certain advantages to the IPEF. The framework will help lower the cost of supply chains and reduce costly disruptions and could ensure a higher level of economic competitiveness during the next century for the whole region. Cooperation and economic and political stability and prosperity will also be enhanced. The framework was intended to be a replacement to the prior Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), which was advocated by former President Obama and current President Biden, and which former President Trump dropped out of in 2017. The pillars of the framework will focus on harmonizing corporate supply chains, expanding digital trade and clean energy, and fighting corruption. Critics of the IPEF’s loosely coupled framework suggest that this enlarged alliance is intended to reduce the regional influence of China, and some of the member states indicate that it should go beyond challenging China’s influence and should produce a functional economic bloc that will enhance and improve the positions of all the participant economies. Seven countries from the earlier TPP will belong in the IPEF; however, countries such as Canada and Mexico did not join as they are already in a free trade area with the United States. Moreover, US labor and environmental groups, which lobbied against the earlier TPP, are equally concerned about the IPEF, when it comes to digital JOURNAL OF ASIA-PACIFIC BUSINESS 2022, VOL. 23, NO. 3, 183–186 https://doi.org/10.1080/10599231.2022.2095584","PeriodicalId":15043,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asia-Pacific Business","volume":"23 1","pages":"183 - 186"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46249653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multiple frameworks have been developed under CHANS that look at a certain aspect of such interactions at different levels. One such framework is metacoupling, which is considered a tentative solution to achieving various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this context, this paper aims to give a comprehensive overview and develop an innovative conceptual model to understand intracoupling which comes under the umbrella concept of metacoupling. Based on the review of literature and the qualitative observations from the authors’ perspective the study has been designed in the form of a review of literature and later a conceptual framework has been developed. The model proposed in the article is applied to analyze the Public Distribution System (PDS) in India. PDS plays a vital role in ensuring food security which is given high priority in the list of SDGs. This framework is expected to offer the policy makers and researchers a new perspective in seeking creative solutions for the achievement of SDGs. It can also help in furthering the studies and theory-building process related to sustainability. Pioneering future applications to other social and economic challenges are suggested. Also, implications for research and policy are provided. To conclude, this paper adds to the existing literature on human nature interactions by providing a theoretical perspective to better understand the intricacies associated with it.","PeriodicalId":15043,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asia-Pacific Business","volume":"23 1","pages":"206 - 233"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47069782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Scopus, Web of Science, GoogleScholar, and Proquest were searched to prepare a data including 262 suitable studies providing 374 correlations. The meta-analysis results showed that all the data sets regarding the surveyed relationships were heterogeneous and none of them included publication bias. The effect sizes of job satisfaction, work engagement, and burnout on turnover intention were medium. The effects size of the relationship between organizational commitment and turnover intention, and the relationship between organizational commitment and job satisfaction were large.The moderator analysis results suggested that there was a significant difference between the effect sizes of burnout and work engagement on turnover intention in Asia, Oceania, and Africa. Moreover, industry was a moderator for the effect sizes of job satisfaction and organizational commitment on turnover intention. These results can be used by the researchers studying the variables of this study and by the managers determining policies to diminish turnover intention.","PeriodicalId":15043,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asia-Pacific Business","volume":"23 1","pages":"113 - 141"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49403014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The gravity panel model estimated the conservative “pushing and pulling the flows” factors, whereas the hybrid model was used to perfect the gravity panel model in capturing the relevance of spatial interdependence. Results showed the presence of spatial interdependence in the bilateral trades among ASEAN+2 countries for Tuna commodities. Through the hybrid model, the third-country effect was found to originate from three spatial lag of independent variables.","PeriodicalId":15043,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asia-Pacific Business","volume":"23 1","pages":"142 - 160"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49293443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, the quest to uncover them has led to the shift in focus from conventional economic factors to noneconomic factors. In this backdrop, this study complements the existing literature by empirically investigating the nexus between trade openness, institutional quality and economic growth in five emerging countries. Specifically, it analyzes the trade-growth link and the mediatory role of institutions in different specifications. The study employs an endogenous growth model duly estimated through a contemporaneous correlation expunging an efficient approach called a cross-sectionally augmented autoregressive lag distributed (CS-ARDL) approach. The empirical estimates indicate that imports are fundamental in augmenting economic growth while exports and overall trade openness though having positive impact are statistically insignificant. Institutional infrastructure augments economic prosperity on its own but retorts trade-growth relationship.","PeriodicalId":15043,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asia-Pacific Business","volume":"23 1","pages":"92 - 112"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46140388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results of the study indicate statistically significant differences between the capital structure of various industry groups. The majority of Indian companies are following mean industry leverages and thereby envisaging the application of optimal capital structure concept. Also, a decline is witnessed in the debt ratios in Phase II over Phase I. A prominent finding highlights the substitution of long-term debt with short-term debt. Overall results reveal the partial application of pecking order theory in Indian industries.","PeriodicalId":15043,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Asia-Pacific Business","volume":"23 1","pages":"46 - 72"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48132487","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
