The issue comes from the effectiveness of using traditional and alternative assessment to help teacher to assess the students in classroom situations in ELT. The problem is the teachers do not have better perspective in the challenges of assessment of ELT in the 21st century through alternative assessment or using both traditional and alternative assessment in classroom situation. That problem makes the use of assessment is not really effective to assess specific skill (listening, reading, writing, and speaking) of the students. This study aims, therefore, to investigate teachers’ perspective on the use of traditional and alternative assessment in ELT. The methodology of the research is using survey research with fifty English teachers as samples of this research. The data was collected by using questionnaire combine with open-ended questions relate with teachers’ perspective on traditional and alternative assessment. The results show that many teachers are really comfort with traditional assessment rather than alternative assessment since they claimed that traditional assessment is easier and more familiar to conduct in classroom situation. However, those perspectives have to be changed, the teacher should use both traditional and alternative assessment based on appropriate purposes and skills because there are challenges in assessment of ELT in 21st century to make the assessment process become more effective to improve students’ performance in English. It will be helpful by knowing the advantages and disadvantages of using traditional and alternative assessment in classroom situation to help the teacher to use them balance in the teaching and learning process.      ","PeriodicalId":148903,"journal":{"name":"JADEs Journal of Academia in English Education","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116244157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Still, students’ interests were supposed to be made into consideration for the content, strategy, product, and environment, but such a notion remains to be seen. Therefore, this study aims to examine remaining issues and challenges faced by the teacher and students of grade 8 as well as to explore how the differentiated content can facilitate students’ interests. Based on descriptive qualitative in nature, the data were obtained mainly from personal interviews with six grade 8 students of SMPN 12 Yogyakarta, their English teacher, and the vice principal for curriculum affairs, and partly through observation and survey of a class. The findings revealed that there were prevalent issues and challenges in the curriculum, the teaching and learning practices, the materials, and the students’ interests. Then, the differentiated contents could facilitate students’ interests in terms of identifying their interests, grouping them based on their interests, providing relevant topics, presenting the content in various interesting media, and utilizing technology to provide sources of learning \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":148903,"journal":{"name":"JADEs Journal of Academia in English Education","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123998149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results showed that three major factors contribute to students' errors in EFL writing in Indonesia: the influence of the first language on writing, large class sizes, and a lack of writing practice. This is reasonable, as studies have demonstrated that despite years spent in school learning English, a significant number of errors can still be found in writing products composed by university students. Therefore, the teacher can use several strategies, including implementing a specific learning strategy that affects the target language, reducing the number of students in the class so that they have enough time to practice writing based on the writing process, and providing better instruction in the structure and grammar sections. Furthermore, teachers should spend more time and effort outside of the classroom to help students receive feedback, particularly through conferencing.","PeriodicalId":148903,"journal":{"name":"JADEs Journal of Academia in English Education","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123960534","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A scramble, for example, is a method in which each student is extremely active because they are held accountable for the success of their group. One of the learning methods that can be used to help students learn English better is the scramble method. The purpose of this study is to explain how the Scramble learning method improved English learning outcomes for students in the seventh grade at MTs Daarul Uluum PUI Ranji. In this study, Classroom Action Research (CAR) was used in two cycles. Each cycle is divided into four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Cycle I. Planning was based on preliminary observations. Cycle II planning is based on the results of Cycle I reflection. According to the study's findings, using the scramble method to solve the problem of learning English resulted in an increase in student learning outcomes from cycle I to cycle II. Learning outcomes in the first cycle averaged 76,25, or 75% completeness, and increased significantly to 81.71, or 84% completeness, in the second cycle. This has increased by 9%. As a result, it can be concluded that using the scramble method can improve the English learning outcomes of class VII students at MTs Daarul Uluum PUI Ranji.","PeriodicalId":148903,"journal":{"name":"JADEs Journal of Academia in English Education","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116261400","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
