A challenging task for network planners is to reduce network protection costs while maintaining an acceptable level of survivability. In this paper, we implement a cost effective restoration scheme for a novel tree-based EPON architecture for Intermediate Split Structure (ISS) in the drop region section. The protection mechanism for tree based optical switch will have capability to divert the signal onto protection line according to the types of failure condition and location of failures in access network. This will ensure the data flow continuously due to breakdown occur in the network and instantly repair operation before it cause any major problem later. We employ the dedicated and shared protection in our design. Four faulty conditions are considered in this article and OptiSystem, Inc. software is used to prove the solution feasibility.","PeriodicalId":144722,"journal":{"name":"2009 Innovative Technologies in Intelligent Systems and Industrial Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131030783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The environmental condition in data centre must be designed and maintained strictly to avoid disruption and thermally shut down that caused by overheat and loss of cooling. This paper primarily focuses on the optimization cooling system in data centre by arrangement of racks position and airflow management. Models and simulation of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) are developed for the room and equipment of data centre where the effect to temperature and airflow profiles will be observed. A case study of data centre design in Kuala Lumpur with 30 racks of equipment and combination of raised floor cooling and spot cooling was carried out. Results of CFD simulation show the issues of data centre cooling and improvement was suggested to improve the distribution of cooling and reduction of hot spots.","PeriodicalId":144722,"journal":{"name":"2009 Innovative Technologies in Intelligent Systems and Industrial Applications","volume":"107 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123243832","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wavelet denoising algorithms proposed by Donoho's method is more often used in sEMG signal. However, Donoho's method is limited especially for multifunction myoelectric control. It does not only remove noises but it also removes some important part of sEMG signals. This study proposes an improved threshold estimation method. Six modified threshold estimation methods associated with the selected thresholding rescaling are evaluated. SEMG signal from six hand motions with additive WGN at various signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) were applied to evaluate the efficient of method. Features of the estimated signal are sent to classification task. Evaluations of the performance of these algorithms are mean squared error (MSE) and classification rate. The results show that Global Scale Modified Universal (GSMU) method provides better performance than traditional Donoho's method. It produces sEMG signals that remain important information of the original sEMG signal and can eliminate lots of noises. The average MSE are 0.0024 at 20 dB SNR, low noise, and 0.074 at 0 dB, high noise. The accuracy of hand movement recognition of sEMG signal that estimates from GSMU is improved. It improves 1 to 4% of the classification accuracy depend on level of noise. In addition, performance of level dependent method is better than the others rescaling method. In the experiment, GSMU threshold estimation method is an efficient method for producing useful sEMG signal without noise and improving the application of hand movement recognition.","PeriodicalId":144722,"journal":{"name":"2009 Innovative Technologies in Intelligent Systems and Industrial Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123015968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The technique is based on the remote host of optical switch, and the web-server would help discern an individual event during the monitoring of the FTTH PON in collaboration with the information provided by the optical switch. As most of the signal information is distributed around edges and areas of sharp changes, there is a need of designing an interpolation technique that is able to predict these changes precisely. However, many conventional polynomial-based interpolation methods tend to smooth or blur out image details around the edges. In this paper, a novel method called Lagrange time delay estimation interpolation (LATDEI) model is proposed, to confront the problem. Simulation results shows that the consistency of LATDEI performance, in obtaining better images, implies that it is a promising estimator for image interpolation of various images. Compared to two traditional methods, the proposed LATDEI method improves the subjective quality of the interpolated edges while providing a better resolution.","PeriodicalId":144722,"journal":{"name":"2009 Innovative Technologies in Intelligent Systems and Industrial Applications","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134547648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, accurate gait analysis require large amount of data and lengthy assessment times. Therefore this paper presents the initial study of a system which was developed with the intention to provide clinicians a solution to acquire gait parameters and detect anomalies with ease and comfort. The system consists of four force sensitive resistors and two inertial sensors to obtain ground contact force measurements and knee joint angles, respectively, during walking. Emphasis is made on the software application which was designed to be used in a clinical environment which allows users to perform gait analysis without in-depth knowledge on the software or hardware. The software application facilitates the real time acquisition of kinematic and kinetic gait parameters, intelligent gait phase detection and data storage for later reference. The designed system is a black box to the users, and the user can communicate to the hardware with the developed user-friendly GUI. The gait parameters and the gait phases detected are illustrated in a graphical and tabular form which aids to determine the presence of abnormalities, and the instance of deformation occurrences. The hardware and software was tested on several subjects, and the results obtained are discussed to verify the system.","PeriodicalId":144722,"journal":{"name":"2009 Innovative Technologies in Intelligent Systems and Industrial Applications","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134482533","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
