D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye (1951). It is about a teenage boy who got expelled from his school and avoided going to his home for a few days. Lonely, on the cusp of adulthood, Holden Caulfield reclusively vacillates between what he was and what he is going to be. Since its publication till present, J. D. Salinger's Catcher is perceived as one of the perceptible novels to protrude from post-World War II. It revolves around the mettle of a troubled boy, called Holden Caulfield, towards a revelation. Tracking Holden's biography allows Salinger to wander into the minds of his peer adolescents and create a microcosm for them. The analysis will, therefore, be designated as a coming of age novel and as a trauma of World War II. The paper aims at examining the psychological structure of adolescence and what lies beyond and of the trauma of war and what did leave behind. The notions of Holden's angst and alienation justify the concept of vacillation and deepen the psychological and mental disorder of his oscillatory time and age. In short, this article aims to give a comprehensive account of the ambience of adolescents and how certain psychological and social conditions are crystalized behind their vacillation.","PeriodicalId":142956,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Arts, Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131082283","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Banana Yoshimoto is regarded as a representative figure in contemporary Japanese fiction, foregrounding the experiences and self-questioning of a younger generation struggling to find its place in a society torn between conservatism and the contingencies of a radical, dynamic, globalized, but at the same time, consumer culture. The elusiveness of relationships, of intimacy, of love and life, the difficulty of defining and finding happiness, and the inscrutability of one’s self are some of the central themes in her writing. This paper looks at Yoshimoto’s widely acclaimed novella, Kitchen (1987), and the manner in which Mikage Sakurai, the protagonist, manoeuvers through death, loneliness and healing to arrive at a secure sense of self. This happens through the primary metaphor of the kitchen, and the gendered associations that it elicits. At the same time, Yoshimoto’s representation of this space, as well as of food in general, challenges certain stereotypes associated with these. In the process, interpersonal relationships as well as the conventional idea of family also come to be reconstituted in the novella.","PeriodicalId":142956,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Arts, Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126134535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, Le Ventre de l’Atlantique (Diome), The Women of Brewster Place (Naylor), Tels des astres éteints (Miano), Dance with a poor man’s Daughter (Jooste), and RL’s Dream (Mosley), motivated their use to raise an awareness campaigns on female conscientization against a male conspiracy built on the law of silence against the female gender, resulting in male marginalization, of women in gender relationships through diverse cultural and religious practices represented by the corpus. In order to achieve this goal, the following analytical tools were used: feminist criticism, post-colonialism and Africana Womanism. The hypothesis is based on the fact that the corpus underscores gender conflicts that rock power is exercised against women through the channel of communication by men. The analysis concluded that female consciousness raising is a tool that women use to counteract any form of subjugation in patriarchal societies that struggle to their emancipation and freedom. Consequently, the analysis highlights the philosophical and ideological vision that all five authors have of their respective African and African-American societies, concerning gender equality.","PeriodicalId":142956,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Arts, Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115440937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nigeria not an exception, the genre in recent times has become the mainstream music representing the identity and socio-cultural aspirations of the teeming Nigerian urban youth population. Through incursion into the origin of hip hop, this paper examines the inter-connectivity and the inter-relationship between the street and hip hop music with a comparison of the Nigerian and the American street culture in hip hop music discourse. It is quite evident that hip hop music and the street are inseparable with manifestation which are visibly perceived through the Nigerian rap star- Olamide’s hip hop philosophy, his choice of language for dissemination, message and didactic use of the genre as an alternative and legitimate hustle as opposed to the now common internet fraud becoming a plaque among Nigerian teeming youths.","PeriodicalId":142956,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Arts, Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128763025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using sampling method, three extracts have been selected from the novel. The focus on textual meaning aims at unveiling the hidden linguistic resources or codes incorporated in this novel. It also aims at bringing out how Tony Onamade Jejuri organized and established themes to construct clauses in order to convey his message. Using mixed research method (quantitative and qualitative research methods), the findings reveal different linguistic features pertaining to the characteristics of the discourse. It is then realized the overtopicalizing of the three selected extracts.","PeriodicalId":142956,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Arts, Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114684904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Like other media of communication, films can shape behaviours negatively or positively, which is achieved through the texts, images and portrayals of characters that make up the content of films. The study discussed the reflection of national integration in Nigeria through films. Anchored on the theory of Hermeneutic, the study adopted the content analysis method. To this end, the movie Up North was critically appraised to ascertain to which it encourages national integration in Nigeria. Findings showed that the movie portrayed the Nigerian culture positively significantly encouraged national integration through focus on good morals, mutual respect among individuals, promotion of hard-work, and respect for and tolerance of our cultural diversity. The study concluded that films is a veritable means of social reengineering and nation building, and suggested that through greater synergy between the stakeholders in the culture industry, Nigerian films should be made to reflect mainly the positive cultural ethos of the nation while promoting peace in the society as depicted in the movie Up North.","PeriodicalId":142956,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Arts, Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115725941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The same scenario is reflected in Mamang Dai’s Legends of Pensam as the women on margin have always retained in the same shape and misery. The gendered subalterns have been suffering in silence accepting their fate or restricting themselves amid their limited demarcated territory in order to survive. Over the years, these fair sexes are not only being ignored and exploited, under the hands of the colonial or elitist masses but also by the patriarchal structure designed in the Indian society. Various types of changes and uncertainties have touched the premises in the land of the Adi tribes, placing the women somewhere inbetween tradition and modernity. Dai in her work has tried to portray the scuffling situations of the Adi women, how they have resisted and quietly tackled those changes, uniquely sculpting their own identity. Keeping those silences and muted existences of the indigenous women in mind, this paper is an earnest attempt to hear the voices of those women or give them a chance to bring their survival complexities in the eyes of mainland India and the world.","PeriodicalId":142956,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Arts, Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129589462","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To delve into the issue of feminism and glass the idea on femocracy, the perspective of femism and kink has been developed and elaborated. Indeed, in a critical perspective, the paper has spotlighted the degree of the Ugandan women’s failure in the struggle against patriarchy in their society. An analysis of probate pertinency has shown up the resolution of the female character to overthrow the social and cultural female status cushioned by so much domesticated vagrancies. However, confronted with pugnant realities, the female actant steps back to fall into the trap of sex and sexuality. A path to freedom is then cut short, a dream shattered on the erotic wall of venial pleasures. Emancipation is then wedged apart into the glooming splinters of masculinity and patriarchy.","PeriodicalId":142956,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Arts, Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126749526","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
