Therefore, mobile-assisted language learning is considered a new multidisciplinary field of educational technology. We hope that the results of this study could serve as the basis for other researchers to do research on the effects of mobile phones when improving English in an academic environment and provide people who have an interest in this topic with the relationship between students and the necessity of using mobile phones to support learning in classes, especially in English. This study could be helpful for teachers to pay more attention to developing a new way to bring knowledge to their students instead of focusing mainly on the old method like books, boards or fundamental theories.","PeriodicalId":142956,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Arts, Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128994394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there have been only a few empirical studies concerning the impact of English proficiency on the economic development of countries. These studies utilize economic development indicators such as GDP, GDP per capita, as well as GDI. They also adopt various English proficiency indicators: average TOEFL scores, average EF Standard English Test scores, and a comparison of the Outer Circle and the Expanding Circle. They focus on the influence of English proficiency on economic development and foreign trade, but not on prosperity, which consists of some elements other than these. Furthermore, results in this field significantly change depending on the types of indicators. Therefore, further research is necessary with various indicators to draw a more complete picture. This study adopts the Legatum Prosperity Index as a prosperity measurement and compares the Expanding Circle and the Outer Circle with a t-test. The result shows that the former is superior to the later. The study further investigates the situation in Asia and Africa, since these regions have a significant number of Outer-Circle countries. The research outcome indicates that there is no significant statistical difference between the two circles. These results suggest that having a large number of people who have high English proficiency does not always lead nations to prosperity.","PeriodicalId":142956,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Arts, Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127562161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a reading and writing disorder, it always gives concern to parents whenever a child who has attained speaking and writing ages is not able to read or write as he/she ought to. Therefore, the main focus of this work is to evaluate the language disordered children with dyslexia with the view to ascertain the teachers’ levels of awareness of this disorder in Port Harcourt city. This work adopted the descriptive survey protocol, and data was got from ’THE CHILD” Special School, Kaduna street, D-line Port Harcourt. It is worthy of note from the data obtained in this investigation, that the teachers were obviously ignorant of what dyslexia means, and so it can be concluded that their levels of awareness of this disorder is very low. The low awareness of this condition makes it so difficult for both the teacher and the affected child to cope well with each other. This is more prominent when the child is enrolled in a mainstream school, because teachers in such schools lack competence in the various special ways to handle the children with the disorder.","PeriodicalId":142956,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Arts, Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115644433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A general survey was made to examine the status quo of the pragmatic information in the existing Chinese-English dictionaries. It was found that all large- and medium-sized dictionaries under investigation provided some pragmatic information. However, these dictionaries only provided the pragmatic information about the Chinese headword but not the English equivalent. The author argues that since the target users of these dictionaries are Chinese EFL learners, they should state clearly the pragmatic differences between the headword in the source language and the equivalent in the target language. Moreover, the cultural notes provided should be focused on the English equivalents instead.","PeriodicalId":142956,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Arts, Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125659772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Five main factors, including 18 elements, were identified: texts, listeners, speakers, tasks, and environment. The data were collected through questionnaire, including multiple choice questions and open questions, from 319 students. The results show that the texts and the listeners are 2 factors having close relation and influence each other with different rankings of different features; interesting, “physical and psychological states” is not the important element in this case. Based on statistical results, from a view of readability, the paper deeply analyzes these features to find the solutions in designing course syllabus, selecting materials, proposing teaching methods and improving the listening learning environment to meet the learning outcome; especially, achieving the outcome standard “B1”, shown the scale by the international TOEIC test, being trained at the school.","PeriodicalId":142956,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Arts, Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128591258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Later computer assisted language learning (CALL) developed and concerned itself with the pedagogical applications of the technology. Information Communication Technology (IT) which is an offshoot of science through its internet and computer-mediated communication (CMC) has gone beyond science to broaden the lexical inventories of the English language. It is against this backdrop that this paper tends to conduct a study on computer-mediated communication with a focus on the teaching and learning of the English language in Nigeria. The study aims to bring to the fore the issues and challenges associated with this new normal. The study also examines the benefits associated with the use of this technology in the teaching and learning of the English language. The study also employs Direct Participatory Observation and a questionnaire as means of gathering data for the research. Famous Mclunnham’s Technological Determinism Theory was employed as the theoretical framework of analysis. On the whole, the paper discovered among other things that the use of CMC made students confident and gives them the zeal of being online and wanting to discover and learn via the medium of computer-mediated communication. The study concludes that the use of this method of teaching and learning English in Nigeria has to be encouraged for efficiency and exactness for both in the teaching and learning of English in Nigeria. Solutions and recommendations were proffered to ameliorate the challenges associated with the use of these technological devices.","PeriodicalId":142956,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Arts, Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122381005","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Africa, how European imperialism has affected people continues to be subjected to debate with varying viewpoints. However, most of the literature on imperialism places greater emphasis on its political and economic dimensions, with passing discussion on its cultural aspect. This study intends to examine the impact of cultural imperialism on the Hausa people. Over the years, from pre-colonial through the colonial and post-colonial periods, Hausa cultures have been subjected to different changes due to different factors, imperialism included. Using primary and secondary sources, this study shows that the major areas of Hausa culture mostly affected by British cultural imperialism include language, culinary habits, attire, traditional sports, lifestyles, and festivities. Given the complexity of the current scholarly debate on the topic, a compilation of multiple viewpoints would be useful. In addition, the linked concepts, such as cultural imperialism and the concept of culture will be examined in depth.","PeriodicalId":142956,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Arts, Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116007639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study contributes to these works by investigating the kind of address and referring expressions used by postgraduate students when they share e-mails with their lecturers and their colleagues as well as how age, gender and familiarity affect these terms. Using Brown and Ford’s (1961) study on Address in American English as a conceptual framework, a Discourse Completion Tasks (DCTs) questionnaire was designed and used to retrieve data from fifty-six (56) respondents who were all postgraduate students. The data revealed that postgraduate students mainly used five (5) forms of address terms in e-mails to lecturers: titles, attention getters, kinship terms, personal names and nicknames, and six (6) referring expressions (of lecturers) in e-mails to their colleagues: titles, kingship terms, personal names, nicknames, course titles and generic reference. The study concludes that, whereas age and gender greatly affect address terms and referring expressions in students-lecturers e-mails, familiarity does not present that much considerable influence on the address terms and referring expressions used in students-lecturers e-mails.","PeriodicalId":142956,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Arts, Language and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114519197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
