This study was conducted to evaluate the link of food concepts, lifestyle habits, and dietary patterns among persons with diabetes mellitus. Methodology: The participants with diabetes mellitus were chosen from the diabetic wards and OPDs of several hospitals in Punjab. There were 600 participants in the entire sample size. The questionnaire was created to evaluate diabetes-related myths about food, diabetes-related lifestyle routines, and eating habits among persons with diabetes. Statistical techniques were used percentages (%) and cross tabs. Results: The study found that 55.8% of persons have a history of diabetes mellitus in their families. A sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical activity were prevalent in about 41.8% of the population. Participants with no education or little education have higher levels of uncontrolled HbA1C than participants with some education. 24% of the individuals who lacked education thought that eating too much sugar could cause diabetes. 10% of individuals actually used a home remedy, whereas 88.8% of participants did not use any. Of the participants, 24.5% believed that home remedies were helpful in managing diabetes. Conclusion: This study shows that people do not exercise enough; about half of the participants are physically inactive. Major meals were consumed in an appropriate amount. The promotion of good eating and lifestyle practices, particularly prevention among high-risk groups, is encouraged through health education and other interventions.","PeriodicalId":142550,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pharmacy & Integrated Health Sciences","volume":"4 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120842367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Roystonea regia, a plant of Aceraceae family has been traditionally used in different countries especially in Asia. Objectives: The aim of the study was to evaluate its analgesic and anti-diabetic potential by hot plate method and Alloxan induced method in Swiss albino female rats weighing 150 to 200 gm respectively. Methodology: Shoots of Roystonea regia plant was extracted using n-hexane, chloroform and ethanol in Soxhlet apparatus. Oral acute toxicity test showed the different mortality rates of all extracts. Results: The crude n-hexane and ethanol extract showed increase in the latency time till 120 min and were found to have significant (p˂0.001) analgesic potential at 100 and 200 mg/kg dose. However, different anti-diabetic potential was shown by all three extracts. Chloroform extract showed maximum reduction in blood glucose level (BGL) and found significant (p˂0.001) as compared to negative control till 21st day at the dose of 250 and 500 mg/kg of body weight. Conclusion: Further study is required to understand the complete mechanism involved in both activities. In future, purified fractions and column chromatography can be conducted for their complete characterization and their toxic effects to establish a proper therapeutic dose for further trials.","PeriodicalId":142550,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pharmacy & Integrated Health Sciences","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117128623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mustafa, Anam Yasmeen","doi":"10.56536/ijpihs.v3i2.34","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.56536/ijpihs.v3i2.34","url":null,"abstract":"Availability and access to the health care facility is a fundamental right of human, it is the timely used of services according to the needs. It is included in International treaties and is recognized by authorities and various Governments throughout the world. What does it means the access to medicine? According to WHO (World Health Organization) access to medicines is “having medicines continuously available and affordable at public or private health facilities or medicine outlets that are within one hour’s walk from the homes of the population”. The affordability and availability of medicines is directly related to the strength of health care system, but the high prices of the medicines, prevalence of Non-communicable diseases (diabetes, hypertension) and increasing demand of patients are the major obstacles in this regard. According to Forbes “at least 2 billion people don’t have access to medicines  and 1 billion people live in extreme poverty (less than $1.25 per day) and 2.2 billion live on less than $2 per day which is quite disturbing situation”.  The World Health Organization (WHO) analyzed the global production of pharmaceutical products and it was concluded that 15% of the world’s population consumes over 90% of them. And by World Health Organization it is also estimated that one-third of the developing world population is unable to receive or purchase essential medicine on a regular basis, especially those which are on high demand. The situation is even worst in the under-privileged countries like Africa and Asia, where approximately 50% of the total population does not have sufficient medicines access and healthcare resources and the remaining 50% are using medication incorrectly. However about 10 million lives a year could be saved out of which 4 million in Africa and South-East Asia alone, if we improve the availability, balanced distribution and rational use of medicines. The overall situation of global access to essential medicines is still considered critical. In the privileged countries the budget for healthcare facilities corresponds to 24-66% of National health expenses, which indicates that there is need to monitor the availability and affordability of medicines in these countries. National policies, economical cost of medicine and strategies of procurement are required to ensure the availability of medicines cost-effectively. The people with low income and in-equal health can’t afford costly services of healthcare system.  The policies for the improvement of infrastructure, financing of medical system and the rational use of medicines are formulated and followed on primarily basis. And Governments need reliable information in order to evaluate the impact of policy implementation. In addition to the cost and availability of medicines, it is mandatory to assess the quality of use     and various aspects, such as rational medicine use, adherence of patients and appropriate prescription practices. Thus the access to healthcar","PeriodicalId":142550,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pharmacy & Integrated Health Sciences","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132403329","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This pandemic has posed serious challenges to health care professionals related to the treatment and management of cancer especially chronic myeloid leukemia patients. Objectives: This review has summarized some latest studies and case reports conducted to evaluate the prevalence and effects of COVID-19 infection in chronic myeloid leukemia patients and how anti-neoplastic drugs act as antiviral agents. Methodology: All the literature were searched by using different electronic databases. Results: The rate of COVID-19 infection in cancer patients is higher as compared to the normal population. The reason may be immunosuppression due to cancer progression or a therapeutic approach applied to control the progression of cancer. Studies have indicated a low risk of infection in chronic myeloid leukemia patients who received tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy. Conclusion: It has been found that tyrosine kinase inhibitors may act as an antiviral agent. That gave the idea that anti-neoplastic agents could be repurposed as antiviral agents to fight the battle against the current pandemic. This will provide new insights into the management of COVID-19 infection in chronic myeloid leukemia patients.","PeriodicalId":142550,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pharmacy & Integrated Health Sciences","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122227340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An autoimmune and inflammatory condition, rheumatoid arthritis mostly affects the joints. Since most immune suppressants are injectable, it was very difficult for patients to follow their treatment regimen on a daily basis. Aims: To develop a liquid dosage form with minimal adverse drug reactions (ADRs) associated with immuno-suppressants. Methodology: For this purpose, a combination of aloe vera with anti-inflammatory effects and prednisolone with immunosuppressant effects is used. Firstly, aloe vera extract was taken and blended with distilled water, sweetened with sucralose and added in prednisolone solution along with other excipients. The results of efficacy, density, viscosity and specific gravity were as within ranges. Result: There is no discoloration and cloudiness. The results of efficacy, density, viscosity and specific gravity were as within ranges. Conclusion: Aloe juice has synergistic effects as an anti-inflammatory agent. This combination lessened the ADRs associated with prednisolone, however it doesn’t compromise the therapeutic effects.","PeriodicalId":142550,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pharmacy & Integrated Health Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133325001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
