Principal components analysis was applied to capture the combined influences of climate indices variability. The main predictors of the models were climate patterns of tropical Atlantic and Pacific (Tropical Southern Atlantic and El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) Modoki), complemented by high latitudes patterns (Antarctic Oscillation and Pacific North American Pattern). The contribution of the ENSO/Pacific Decadal Oscillation mode occurs in preferential months, especially in the transition seasons. There is also a contribution of the lagged streamflow itself, mainly in basins located in the Southeast of Brazil. The accuracy of the model for most of the Brazilian basins is higher than 70%, with higher values than 90% for the estimate of very low streamflow in northeast and north-central Brazil, as well as for very high streamflow in south-central region, which performance decreases with the increase in the lag. The results showed that the climate indices have a highly predictive potential for extreme streamflow, with a higher predictability for more long-term forecasts in case of very low streamflow than very high streamflow.","PeriodicalId":14063,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Hydrology","volume":"76 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86880818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Part of the group of small coastal rivers (GL2), the JRB drains the municipalities of Recife, Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Moreno, São Lourenço da Mata, Cabo de Santo Agostinho, and Vitória de Santo Antão. In addition to contributing to the public supply of the Metropolitan Region of Recife, the JRB receives domestic, industrial and agro-industrial effluents along its route. The JRB runs through densely occupied municipalities with irregular land use and deficiencies in infrastructure, reflecting social, economic and environmental problems. The objective of this study is to make a diagnosis of the socio-environmental indicators in the JRB and correlate them with the main waterborne diseases related to the lack of basic sanitation. The study involved a literature review and a survey of secondary data. Regarding the water quality of the JRB, it was found to vary between Polluted and Very Polluted during the monitored period. With regard to environmental impacts, deforestation, waste dumping and irregular occupation of riverbanks were observed, causing problems for the fauna, flora and the population. In relation to the basic sanitation indicator in the municipality of Jaboatão dos Guararapes, among the obstacles raised was the fact that the municipality does not have a Municipal Policy on Basic Sanitation and the Jaboatão dos Guararapes Municipal Administration does not have a Municipal Basic Sanitation Plan; There is a scarcity of systematized information that supports the process of measuring environmental health; between urban and rural areas there are disparities in access to sanitation services, requiring the adoption of public policies to expand sanitation services in order to assist these populations and thus promote the universalization of sanitation access. The deficiency in basic sanitation in the municipality of Jaboatão dos Guararapes hinders local sustainable development, causing social, economic and environmental impacts. Regarding the number of hospital admissions caused by diseases related to inadequate environmental sanitation (DRIES) in the municipalities that are part of the JRB, Recife stood out with 13,191 hospitalizations in the study period, and in 2010 had the highest number of hospitalizations (2,204). With regard to the number of deaths caused by DRIES, Recife also stood out with 4,208 deaths during the study period.","PeriodicalId":14063,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Hydrology","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73542027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The calculations of wave propagation over the ground downstream of the eroded dam are performed by fluid hydrodynamic simulation programs. In this sense, the input data of the simulation model can be summarized in the physical characteristics of the fluid, the propagation hydrograph and the digital terrain model (DTM). Thus, this systematic review aimed to seek current bibliographic sources around the topic of simulation of hypothetical dam failures, with emphasis on the topographic representation of the valley through which the wave propagates, as a subsidy for simulating the failure of Dam B1, in Brumadinho, MG, Brazil. The results were classified according to categories in order to better differentiate the multidisciplinary content of the topic addressed.","PeriodicalId":14063,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Hydrology","volume":"44 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82108277","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This biome is considered one of the most important ecosystems with the greatest biodiversity of insects and plants on the planet. The climate records were obtained from the INMET meteorological database (BDMet), in addition to information from a microclimatic tower belonging to the Scientific Program “The Large Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere in Amazon Program (LBA)”. Mosquito specimens were sampled during the months of July, September and December 2005 and February and April 2006. During this period,»26,910 specimens were captured using the 'human attractant' method. A total of 59 species in 15 genera were captured and the genera Culex and Coquiilettidia were the focus of this study. The results show a statistical analysis of the impacts of environmental variables on the population density of mosquitoes of the Culex and Coquillettidia genera, emphasizing their eco-physiological behavior. There is a clear positive association between the concentration of atmospheric CO2 and the population density of these genera. When the rainy and dry seasons are analyzed separately, by the daytime period, the positive association is more evident.","PeriodicalId":14063,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Hydrology","volume":"18 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74734226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The simulation system reproduces individual surface cell slope, infiltration capacity, and hydrophobicity. A cellular automaton represents space and time. The Horton equation reproduces infiltration capacity evolution. Different equation parameters account for precipitation intensity variations. Infiltration volume and runoff velocity are computed at the cell level. A Digital Elevation Model reproduces the topography. A real rainfall event is reproduced for a section of La Primavera Forest in Jalisco, Mexico. For a subwatershed within the area of interest, wildfire effects are shown on infiltration, overland flow and outlet discharge throughout the rainfall event. It is shown that rainfall infiltration for wildfire affected terrain is lower and that overland flow and outlet discharge is higher. Infiltration and runoff dynamics at a surface cell depend on storm profile, cell slope, cell soil texture, and overall topography. Water dynamics on the area of interest are shown with a movie effect. It is concluded that a cellular automaton-based model can reproduce infiltration and runoff for different soil texture, topographic and rain conditions. This simulation system is geared for an optimisation system to pinpoint the locations of a series of forest land remediation controls that or maximise infiltration or minimise runoff.","PeriodicalId":14063,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Hydrology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88726087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The quality of drinking water is impacted by groundwater contamination in one way or another, which ultimately harms human health. The current study aims to evaluate the drinking water quality of the groundwater near culvert drainage in Jhang City, Punjab. With the aid of the standardized method APHA 23rd edition, samples that were collected from 9 different areas were examined for 20 parameters, including EC, pH, turbidity, alkalinity, bicarbonates, calcium, carbonates, chlorides, total hardness, magnesium, potassium, sodium, sulphate, nitrate, TDS, arsenic, and bacteria at the Environmental lab of IIUI and testing laboratory of PCRWR. The results of the sample analysis show that the overall quality of drinking water is unacceptable and exceeds PEQs and WHO requirements. The first three samples taken close to the drainage had the highest level of pollution.","PeriodicalId":14063,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Hydrology","volume":"64 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87334210","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The drinking water quality is determined using the drinking water quality index (DWQI), which is based on turbidity, EC, Ca+2, and Mg+2. In Jagheer Katkair, Muzaffarabad Azad Kashmir, drinking water security is significantly damaged continuously due to unsettling population growth and hasty waste sludge. In Jagheer Katkair, Muzaffarabad Azad Kashmir, about 8% of the entire population has access to secured drinking water. Leading to a shortage of resources for safe and healthy drinking water, the residual 92 % is compelled to use contaminated water. Microbial contamination, turbidity, electrical conductivity, and hardness are the main sources of contamination since they are often released into water system supplies. About 60 to 70 percent of all malignancies are attributable to anthropogenic exercise-induced bone ailments. This study focused on the drinking water quality, sources of contamination, and water control methods in Jagheer Katkair, Muzaffarabad Azad Kashmir. To confront the depressing water contamination stats of Jagheer Katkair, Muzaffarabad Azad Kashmir, there is an immediate commitment to implement preventative measures and treatment technologies.","PeriodicalId":14063,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Hydrology","volume":"61 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75967720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is within these swampy lands, where are found numerous arboreal islands or petenes (local name). It has been outlined that its importance is because the water contribution from springs to the basin. As a contribution to the knowledge of the petenes, it was developed a hydrological monitoring system to estimate the hydrological budget of a petén located 3 km southwest of the population of Sisal in the restoration zone of the Palmar Reserve, Yucatan. The analysis showed that the groundwater inflow represented 92 % of the total of inflow to the system, with the net precipitation representing only 6 % and the surface inflow 2 %. By the other side, the surface outflow represented 40 % of the total of the outflow of the system, the groundwater outflow 20 % and the evapotranspiration 40 %. The annual total balance resulted negative (it means fluxes out of the petenes) with a volume from storage of about – 129,288.28 m3. The springs in the interior of the petenes can become more determinant in the hydrologic balance of the community than the contribution of the pluvial precipitation, the hydrodynamics of swamps, or the influence of the waters of the sea.","PeriodicalId":14063,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Hydrology","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74503180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to fill this gap, the participation of women in councils and decision-making in relation to water resources is one of the main ways of guaranteeing access to water in a more equal way. Their participation also enables empowerment, providing them with greater possibility of exercising power and citizenship in the public space, as well as greater legitimacy of legal rules and greater effectiveness of public policies. In this work, the case study was carried out with counselors and workers working in water management in Ouro Preto/MG. Data were collected through interviews and analyzed. Data analysis pointed to the need to increase the participation of women in organizations and councils, both in number and in the occupation of positions responsible by decision-making. The struggle to overcome differences is not an exclusive struggle from women, but also from men, co-authors and builders of social transformations.","PeriodicalId":14063,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Hydrology","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86048248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
