To quantify the influence of dynamometer configuration on eccentric hamstring strength metrics, 23 trained participants completed isokinetic eccentric knee flexor trials at 180°·s<sup>-1</sup> in a seated and extended hip position. The extended position elicited a greater peak torque (P = 0.04) which was achieved at a significantly (P < 0.001) greater degree of knee flexion. Isokinetic range and functional range (defined as 85% of peak torque) were consistent at ~44° and ~21°, respectively, across trials, but were achieved with a more flexed knee in the extended hip configuration. Therefore, whilst the extended hip configuration might better reflect the biarticular nature of the hamstring musculature and the mechanism of hamstring strain injury, the sensitivity of strength metrics to configuration has implications for clinical assessment and training adaptations.</p>","PeriodicalId":13840,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Christianity & Education","volume":"15 1","pages":"98-106"},"PeriodicalIF":2.4,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87579231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A basic framework is presented on how to analyze today's, late-modern world. It is a world in which instrumental rationality is highly dominant. Next to this, powerful societal complexes exert deep influence on the lives of humans: political, economic, media, and medical. Over against this is posed the “real human world” of meaning and responsibility, as the key focus of Christian higher education.","PeriodicalId":13840,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Christianity & Education","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136278903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, we show how fractal metaphors escape a recurring dichotomy in Christian pedagogical scholarship, the either/or of alienation from one’s object of study versus union with it in “an act of love.” Second, we try to replace recent interdisciplinary work’s emphasis on “complexity” with “irreducibility.” Fractals allow us to define these concepts and develop alternative “ways of knowing” with greater rigor. Both interventions bear directly on Christian formation, and so we derive five ways the Christian classroom can combat spiritual alienation and instead cultivate the “fractal imagination” of our students.","PeriodicalId":13840,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Christianity & Education","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135344019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article explores research in the area of disability theology in order to examine potential benefits for Christian ministry to the child. It suggests three areas which may be profitable: the importance of increasing information to accompany development; the importance of the role of the teacher as embodiment and model of discipleship; and the requirement to give better account for ritualised processes within evangelical children’s ministry.","PeriodicalId":13840,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Christianity & Education","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134958019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Integration between the teacher’s personal faith and the pedagogical approach by redesigning teaching practices re-imagines the class beyond rejigging techniques.
