Despite complications, theyre prescribed for orthopedic issues. Glucocorticoids influence lipid levels, with conflicting effects. Steroids are termed a double-edged sword. This study aims to assess lipid profile effects of short-term, low-dose steroid therapy in Orthopedics and Rheumatology, evaluating glucocorticoid therapy impact and investigating other effects on musculoskeletal patients. Materials and Methods:This prospective, non-randomized observational study was conducted, focusing on patients with orthopedic and rheumatological issues. Over 150 patients were included, selected through convenient sampling. Inclusion criteria involved patients aged 18-65 without dyslipidemia or cardiovascular conditions, while exclusion criteria included those with specific medical conditions or high BMI. Patients provided written informed consent before undergoing blood tests for lipid profile and blood sugar levels, with vital signs measured. They received Medrol 4 mg thrice daily for ten days, after which outcomes including lipid levels, blood sugar, and blood pressure were assessed. Results:At baseline, 88.67% had desirable cholesterol levels and 11.33% had borderline levels. At follow-up, 20.67% had borderline levels and 79.33% had desirable levels, a statistically significant difference. Mean cholesterol levels decreased from 169.16 ± 19.70 mg/dl to 161.11 ± 27.60 mg/dl, also significant. For triglycerides, 92.67% had normal levels at baseline, decreasing to 65.33% at follow-up, with mean levels increasing from 131.33 ± 6.97 mg/dl to 139.12 ± 23.88 mg/dl. HDL levels showed improvement, with 84.67% having desirable levels at baseline compared to 43.33% at follow-up, with mean levels increasing from 41.09 ± 5.13 mg/dl to 50.71 ± 4.21 mg/dl. LDL levels decreased from 132.43 ± 16.86 mg/dl to 122.59 ± 16.93 mg/dl, with significant changes in distribution. Conclusions:Short-term steroid use for orthopedic conditions affects lipid profiles: Total cholesterol, LDL, and TG rise significantly, countered by increased HDL, offering protection. Long-term effects on lipid profiles and cardiovascular risk require further study. Risk of avascular necrosis due to subtle lipid profile changes also warrants investigation.","PeriodicalId":13781,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advanced Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140411377","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, whether the use of the ramped position can provide any benefit in videolaryngoscopy-guided intubation remains unclear. This study assessed intubation time using videolaryngoscopy in morbidly obese patients in the ramped versus sniffing positions. Materials and Methods: This is a prospective randomized observational study in patients with morbid obesity (n = 82 body mass index [BMI] ? 35 kg/m2). Patients were randomly allocated to either the ramped or the standard sniffing position groups. During the induction of general anesthesia, difficulty in mask ventilation was assessed using the Warters scale. Tracheal intubation was performed using a C-MAC® D-Blade videolaryngoscope, and intubation difficulty was assessed using the intubation difficulty scale (IDS). The primary endpoint was the total intubation time calculated as the sum of the laryngoscopy and tube insertion times. Conclusion: Compared with the sniffing position, the ramped position reduced intubation time in morbidly obese patients and effectively facilitated both mask.","PeriodicalId":13781,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advanced Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140409088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

[1,8,9] Prepregnancy metabolic changes are not only the determinant of complications during pregnancy, after pregnancy, during postpartum life, but the reasons for inappropriate perinatal outcomes. Overweight women before pregnancy increases the risk of pregnancy complications obesity turns out to be an independent risk factor for macrosomia,cesarean section,pregnancy-induced hypertension, preterm delivery, intrauterine growth restriction, congenital malformation, intrauterine foetal death,etc. [2,7]The emergence of MetS characteristics during pregnancy may also harm the fetus.[4]This study was conducted to study the maternal and foetal outcome in pregnant women with Metabolic Syndrome. Methods: Metabolic syndrome was diagnosed by utilizing the pregnancy adaptation of MeS criteria of NCEPATP III laboratory and clinical criteria. Cases were followed throughout pregnancy till delivery and maternal and foetal complications were recorded. Results: Sample size was 100patients less than 20 weeks of gestation with metabolic syndrome and 100 controls which were normal pregnant patients less than 20 weeks of gestation without any comorbidities. The mean age was 29-32 years. The mean gestational age was 13-16 weeks. LSCS was significantly higher in cases than controls. APH, Pregnancy Induced Hypertension, Pre-eclampsia, Gestational Diabetes Mellitus was significantly higher in cases as compared to controls. Preterm, IUGR, Macrosomia was significantly higher in cases as compared to controls. Conclusion: Metabolic syndrome and its associated complications in pregnancy have a strong effect on the maternal and the fetal well-being. A careful history and examination,proper and timely investigations and proper monitoring and follow up with required medication and optimal control of all the parameters will result in better maternal and foetal outcome.","PeriodicalId":13781,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advanced Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140411000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
