A thorough oral and dental examination was performed for all animals. Radiographic imaging was conducted on animals that showed clinically progressive periodontitis and bony changes. Animals were classified into five scores according to their clinical dental examination and pocket depth. Animals with a score of 0, had healthy gingival tissue with normal pocket depth, a score (1) of those managed by dental scaling, and scores (2 and 3) of those treated by dental scaling and then non-surgical debridement. Open flap surgery was performed for more advanced cases; scores (4 and 5). Data were statistically analyzed using Chi-square and cramers v tests to investigate the relationship between age, diet, and sex to periodontal affection. Among the total number of admitted animals (N=320), 40.6 % (130 cases) showed periodontal diseases, 8.8% (28 cases) dogs and 31.9% (102 cases) cats. Affected males (24.4%) were higher than females (16.3%). Among the 130 animals with periodontal diseases, 142 affections were recorded. Age and diet showed high statistical significance (P<0.001). Sex showed to be statistically insignificant, (P>0.05). The cramers v test results for age and periodontal disease association showed a value of (0.490) and strong association between age and periodontal diseases.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123093428","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Overdoses, such as those used in suicide attempts or unintentional mishaps, can produce hepatotoxicity, which can result in rapid liver failure and renal necrosis. Galantamine (GAL) is a reversible and competitive cholinesterase inhibitor that is used to treat Alzheimer's disease and other memory-related diseases. This study aimed to investigate the possible protective role of GAL (0.3 mg/kg P.O) for successive 28 days against PCM (2 g/kg BW P.O) toxicity on day 29 of the experiment. At day 30, blood samples were collected for evaluation of liver function such as serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP), alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), total protein, albumin, globulin, albumin/globulin (A/G) ratio and kidney function (urea and creatinine). The obtained results revealed that GAL decreased the levels of ALT, AST, ALP, urea, creatinine and improved the protein profile in comparison with PCM treated group. In conclusion, GAL had a protective effect against PCM toxicity by improving liver and kidney function against hepatic and renal toxicity induced by PCM in rats.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"186 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122593717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Forty-eight individual milk specimens were obtained from animals positive for Rose Bengal Test (RBT), buffered acidified plate antigen test (BAPAT) together. Milk samples were tested with a milk ring test (MRT), followed by isolation and identification of the prevalent serotypes. At the same time, conventional PCR was applied. One hundred and sixty seven buffalo’s serum samples were collected from 12 smallholder’s herds and their bulk tanks gave positive to MRT were confirmed by BAPAT and RBT. A total of 50 karish cheese were collected from street vendors and supermarkets located in Mansoura city, Dakahlia Governorate, Egypt. Conventional PCR was also used to detect Brucella DNA at the species level on the collected cheese samples. The results showed that the prevalence of brucellosis in small dairy buffalo farms was 60% by MRT and 28.7% though using RBT and BAPAT. The prevalence of Brucella in buffalo's retail milk was 20% in each of Bilqase, Sherbin, and Talkha, 30% in each of Aga and Nabroh, 10% in Sinblaween. However no positive results was revealed in Mansoura. The isolation rate of Brucella was 31.25% in individual positive samples and 7.69% in retail positive milk samples. While using conventional PCR, the percentage reached 62.5% in individual positive samples and 69.23% in retail positive milk samples. All Brucella isolates (n = 16) were biochemically identified into three Brucella abortus biovar1 (18.75%) and 13 Brucella melitensis biovar 3 (81.25%). The prevalence of Brucella in examined Karish cheese was 20%. All of the tested isolates were verified using conventional PCR. Raw milk and unpasteurized soft cheese have public health risks for humans and are possible sources of transmitting Brucella and must be under regular and mandatory food control measures.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122778065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aeromonas hydrophyla was isolated with a prevalence rate of 40% and identified biochemically. A . hydrophyla was used to induce experimental infection to Nile Tilapia in which thyme and thymol were used as feed additive. Evaluation of the protective effect of thyme and thymol as immunostimulant agents on fish tissue against experimental infection with Aeromonas infection was studied. A total of ninety apparently healthy fish tilapia were divided into three groups (GA, GB and GC of 30 fish per group) in triplicate. GA (infected non treated group) was fed on basal diet. GB and GC were fed on diet supplemented with Thyme vulgaris (10 g/ kg diet) and Thymol (3 g/ kg diet), respectively for 8 weeks and then the groups were subjected to experimental infection with Aeromonas hydrophyla isolate. The thyme and thymol groups had a nearly similar significant immunostimulant effect than infected non treated group by using lysozyme activity assay. Sever hyperemia of gill filaments and gill arch, epithelial desquamation of the gill filament, enteritis, necrosis and desquamation of epithelial cells of intestine, muscle necrosis, myocardiolysis of heart, hydropic degeneration of liver and hemosiderosis of spleen were observed in infected non treated group. In the treated groups, the prophylactic effect of thyme and thymol on fish tissues were clear against experimental infection with A. hydrophyla . These results indicate that the using thyme or thymol as feed additive could enhance the immunity and protect fish tissues from pathological deterioration induced by infection with Aeromonas hydrophila which is considered as one the main fish pathogens in Egypt.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126938981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was designed to determine the diversity, prevalence, and risk factors associated with the occurrence of haemoparasitic infections in chickens and guineafowls in Kwara Central, Nigeria. Blood samples were collected from 345 birds (326 chickens and 19 guineafowls). The wet mount and thin blood smear techniques were used to detect blood parasites. Data obtained were subjected to statistical analysis using proportions (prevalence) and Univariate analysis (Chi-square (χ2)). A total of 315 blood samples were positive for haemoparasite(s), representing 91.30% (95% confidence interval (CI) = 87.86, 93.84) of the study population. Leucocytozoon species (spp.) (42.90%) was the most prevalent blood parasite followed by Plasmodium spp. (33.62%). Haemoproteus spp. and Aegyptianella spp. were the least prevalent blood parasites representing 32.46% and 23.77% respectively. Multiple haemoparasitic infections (37.39%) were common among poultry. Species of poultry, chicken types, age, and sex were significantly associated with the occurrence of haemoparasitic infections of poultry in the study area. There is a need for a radical approach to the control and prevention of haemoparasitic infections of poultry, so as to improve the production of the poultry sector in the country.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128628358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Glycans in cancer cells are frequently at varying quantities or have fundamentally various structures than those seen in normal cells. The presence of sialic acid (Neu5Ac), which is prevalent at the end of glycan chains, is significant. N-glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc) is a “non-human” sugar type that intercept into Neu5Ac natural biosynthetic machinery, presaging as a perspective biomarker. Malignant breast cells resistance to chemotherapy and their non-malignant counterparts, when treated with the Neu5Gc under nutrient deprivation, display cell surface tumor-associated Neu5Gc-rich glycans, which is capture with Neu5Gc linkage specific plant lectins such as Triticum vulgaris agglutinin (WGA), Sambucus nigra agglutinin (SNA), and Maackia amurensis agglutinin I (MAL-I). Nevertheless, MAL-I binding differentiates surface of malignant breast cell line resistance to chemotherapy MCF-7/H compared to normal mammary epithelial cell line MCF-10/A. The aim of this work is to investigate the withdrawal of amikacin residues in the tissues of rabbits and the effect of boiling and freezing on amikacin residues using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). About 15 rabbits were injected with an intramuscular dose of amikacin (15 mg/kg BW) for 7 successive days. Samples were obtained from kidneys, liver and breast muscle on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 10th day after the last dose. Sample extraction was carried out using solid phase extraction and derivatization process. Reversed HPLC analysis included fluorescence detection at an excitation wave-length 360 nm and emission 435 nm and mobile phase mixture (69: 31 v/v) of methanol, water with a flow rate 1.5 min. Our results revealed that residues of amikacin in the fresh kidneys, liver and breast muscle were 14.2± 0.57 µg/g, 9.02± 0.45µg/g, and 8.23± 0.18µg/g, respectively in the first day post-treatment. The residues’ level was declined to 0.19 ± 0.02 in kidney and not detected in liver and breast muscle on the 10th day post treatment. Residues level in rabbitsʹ kidneys, liver and breast muscle was recorded as a reduction % of 26.3%, 32.35%, and 44.13% after boiling treatment and 11.74%, 20.18%, and 22.27% after freezing, respectively compared to the residues in fresh tissues in the first day post treatment. The obtained results concluded that the withdrawal time of amikacin residues from the tissues of rabbits is 10 days.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121807387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
