The objective of this study is to model the relationship between chromosomal aberrations and some diseases in different groups of Holstein-Friesian cows arranged in a contingency table using log linear model. The variables under study were chromosomal aberrations (structural and numerical) and groups of animals with normal (control) and abnormal states. The SPSS statistical package was used for analyzing the data. The results showed that the saturated model significantly fitted the data. The likelihood ratio statistic was 421.023 with a P -value of 0.000, indicating that two-way interactions (group of animals × chromosomal aberrations; group of animals × disease status; and chromosomal aberrations × disease status) have a highly significant effect and are good predictors in the model. The three-way interaction (group of animals, chromosomal aberrations, and disease status) was not significant ( P -value = 0.858), so it was eliminated. After backward elimination statistics, it is found that all two-way interactions (group of animals × chromosomal aberrations, group of animals × disease status and chromosomal aberrations × disease status interactions) should not be deleted from the model to avoid model distortion. The total diseased animals compared to total non-diseased ones are both more likely to be grouped where odds ratio = 1.45 with 95% CI (1.549 - 1.360) and be supposed to have chromosomal aberrations. This model was the best fit model because it showed all possible effects, including main effects, interaction effects between each two variables, and interaction effects between the three variables.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"325 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133434291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Out of 485 from 2225 (21.7%) dog cases reported in clinic of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Zagazig University in addition to some private clinics in Zagazig, Cairo and El-Obour city. Dogs had different dermatological disorders with alopecia. Mange was the most common dermatological disorder followed by flea infestation then pruritus due to tick infestation, dermatitis, food allergic reaction, Nutritional alopecia dermatophytosis and pyoderma were the less common causes. Dermatological disorders were reported throughout the year but were more common in the summer (38.8%), spring (30.3%) and were less common in the autumn and winter (17.1%& 13.8%) respectively. The canines less than a one year were the ones who suffered the most (36.3% %). Alopecia affects (59.7%) of male dogs and 40.2 %of female canines. During the study period, epidemiological analysis of alopecia, data revealed an increasing skin disorder among dogs, which could be due to increased awareness among dog owners about their pets' health, an increase in the pet population, or the environment becoming more favorable for the various etiological agents of skin disorders causing alopecia. There was a significant decrease of Hb. content, PCV, RBCs and WBCs in dogs with nutritional alopecia. Nutritional alopecia occurs mainly due to deficiency of copper “Cu” and zinc “Zn”.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126794647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dates are regarded as one of the fruits with high nutritive values and rich in carotenoids and flavonoids which have several pharmacological activities. This mini review highlights the contents of the different nutrients in the dates. In addition, recent studies related to the medicinal effects of dates, date seeds or their extracts were also reported. Based on the fresh weight, dates had high moisture content (15% in Tamer to 85% in Kimri stage), fiber (7.5-8%), and sugar (43.4%-64.1%) contents, particularly glucose, and fructose. In addition, dates have considerable concentrations of vitamins and minerals. However, they have relatively low concentrations of protein (1.5% -2.5%), and lipids (0.14%-0.38%). Several reports investigated the pharmacological activities of dates, date seeds, and their extracts. For instances, significant antioxidant activities, neuroprotective effects, healthy urogenital functions and hemopoietic system have been reported. Furthermore, anti-diabetic, antimicrobial, antiinflammatory, antitoxic, and anticancer activities of date seeds, or their extracts have been additionally reported. Such beneficial healthy effects were mainly attributed to the high content of polyphenols in dates or date seeds and their extracts. Therefore, it is highly recommended to consume dates on a regular basis.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121793502","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They represent the most common causes of human foodborne gastroenteritis. Campylobacter colonizes the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) of a wide variety of domestic and wild animals, particularly chickens, turkeys and pigs, which are considered the main reservoirs of this bacterium. Campylobacter is transmitted to human, mainly through ingestion of contaminated poultry meat, unpasteurized milk and polluted water, causing severe abdominal pain, fever, fatigue and diarrhea. Nevertheless, little knowledge about the biology and pathogenicity of Campylobacter spp. is known rather than other predominant pathogens. Therefore, we reviewed the biology of the bacterium, its survival, growth characters and the factors related to its pathogenicity and the mechanisms by which the diseases are happened in the view of the available literatures. Furthermore, we illustrated several techniques used for Campylobacter spp. epidemiological classification.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125548067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Eighty-two (82) cases (47 dogs and 35 cats) with different ages, breeds, and gender admitted to the Clinic of Surgery Department-Faculty of Veterinary Medicine-Zagazig University from March 2017 to March 2021 with a complaint of hind limb lameness and were diagnosed as tibial and fibular fractures through clinical and radiographic examination. Dogs were more susceptible to tibial and fibular fractures than cats with the percentage of 57.32% and 42.68% respectively. Young animals less than one year and male animals were more commonly affected with the percentage of 67.07% (55 case) and 57.32% (47 case), respectively. Diaphyseal fractures were the most commonly reported followed by metaphyseal and physeal with the percentages of 81.71% (67 case), 17.07% (14 case) and 1.22% (1 case), respectively. Closed reduction and external fixation using Robert jones bandage and Gypsona/fiberglass was performed in 52.44% of cases (43 case). Open reduction and internal fixation using bone plate and intramedullary pins with or without cerclage wire was performed in 47.56% of cases (39 case). Regarding to healing of fractured bone successful results were attained in 86.59% of cases (71 case), while the other 13.41% of cases (11 case) had complications of mal-union, implant failure and osteomyelitis. Concerning closed reduction and external fixation, successful healing was reported in 83,72% of cases (36 case), while 16.28% of cases (7 cases) had complications of mal-union (4 cases treated with Robert jones bandage and 3 cases treated with cast/fiberglass). In open reduction and internal fixation, successful healing was reported in 89.74% of cases (35 case), while 10.26% of cases (4 cases) had complications of implant failure in 3 cases treated with intramedullary pins and osteomyelitis in one case treated with bone plate and screws. Open reduction and internal fixation methods are the proper treatment for tibial and fibular fractures if the proper surgical techniques were applied.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129759149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among viral infections, Newcastle disease virus (NDV) is one of the most serious problems facing such a business, as it causes high mortalities, a drastic drop in egg production, and severe economic losses among poultry flocks. The virus can infect a majority of bird species, indicating its broad host-range. It is a major challenge to overcome this devastating viral infection by the application of strict biosecurity measures and well-designated vaccination protocols. Vaccination and/or confinement and slaughtering of infected flocks in verified outbreaks are used to prevent and control Newcastle disease. Live attenuated vaccines, inactivated NDV vaccines, and recombinant vaccines have all been used to vaccinate birds against NDV. Unfortunately, the disease is still attacking and causing severe outbreaks. Therefore, the purpose of the present work is intended to provide an updated overview on the situation of NDV vaccines applied in the Egyptian poultry flocks and/or worldwide, along with brief informative data about the virus' history, morphology, taxonomy, and prevention and control.","PeriodicalId":137314,"journal":{"name":"Zagazig Veterinary Journal","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123528849","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
