McArtney","doi":"10.1109/ECBS.2004.1316743","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ECBS.2004.1316743","url":null,"abstract":"This paper focuses on the design and development of a novel architecture called MARIAN, which utilises static agents, mobile agents, and also a hybrid approach, in order to perform routing, network discovery, and automatic network reconfiguration, in wireless ad-hoc networks. The paper shows that, in most cases, the static agent approach is faster than the mobile agent approach in retrieving data from a wireless remote database. However, if the amount of data to be retrieved is relatively large, such as in the gathering of data for routing information, the mobile agents are more capable of filtering data according to the required preferences. The controller is synthesized by finding a winning strategy for specific games defined by contracts. The discrete system model is an action system, and the requirement is a temporal property. We use the extended action system notation that allows both angelic and demonic nondeterminism, such that the game reduces to a competition between the angel, that is, the controller, and the demon, that is, the plant, which try to prevent each other from achieving their respective goals. If the synthesis is possible, that is, if the angel has a way to enforce the required property, the process ends with finding the winning strategy of the angel, by propagating backwards the computed precondition of the demon, with respect to that property. This technique guarantees the correctness of the derived program. The prospective ANTS (Autonomous Nano Technology Swarm) mission comprises autonomous agents including \"worker\" agents (small spacecraft) designed to cooperate in asteroid exploration under the overall authority of at least one \"ruler\" agent (a larger spacecraft) whose goal is to cause science data to be returned to Earth. The ANTS team (ruler plus workers and messenger agents), but not necessarily any individual on the team, exhibit behaviors that qualify it as an autonomic system, where an autonomic system is defined as a system that self-reconfigures, self-optimizes, self-heals, and self-protects. Autonomic system concepts lead naturally to realistic, scalable architectures rich in capabilities and behaviors. In-depth consideration of a major mission like ANTS in terms of autonomic systems brings new insights into alternative definitions of autonomic behavior. Model integrated computing (MIC) based image processing systems show promise in supporting solutions of these complex problems. While MIC has contributed to the advancement of performing complex image processing tasks on parallel-embedded systems, it has not addressed a challenging class of algorithms that adapt the image-processing algorithm based on the information or state of the image processing system. This proposed effort addresses creating an adaptive image-processing environment based on MIC that allows solutions of complex image processing problems to be built and executed rapidly. This effort involves creating a new modeling representation for image processing adaptation mechanisms. They define components explicitly, however they leave the definition of interactions implicit. Interactions are defined through include files and import and export statements (the connectors are buried inside the components). This implicitly of describing interactions (connectors) makes it difficult to build heterogeneous component-based systems that provide complex functionalities and enroll in complex relations. In this article we present an approach to model and to describe the architecture of component-based systems. It defines connectors as first-class entities. Using this approach one can evolve and reuse not only components but also connectors. We focus on the hypergraph-partitioning problem and multiprocessor scheduling problem, which belong to the class of frequently solved decomposition tasks. One of the goals is to use these problems to experimentally compare the performance of the recently proposed Mixed Bayesian optimization algorithm (MBOA) with the performance of several other evolutionary algorithms based on the estimation and sampling of probabilistic model. We also propose the utilization of prior knowledge about the structure of hypergraphs and task graphs to increase the convergence speed and the quality of solutions. We also show that by using models we are able to implement automated transformations between different views of the system under design.
