Increasing numbers of immigrants and their children present a unique challenge for school-based speech-language pathologists (SLPs). In this study, 376 immigrants from 82 different countries were interviewed about a variety of issues, including their greatest challenges living in the United States, as well as their perceptions of SLPs and SLPs’ services. Practical implications are discussed.","PeriodicalId":135612,"journal":{"name":"Perspectives on School-based Issues","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133678099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is vital that school-based speech-language pathologists (SLPs) possess the knowledge and skills necessary for working with children who use AAC. The purpose of this article is to discuss what we have learned as we teach the new millennium of clinicians and how we can apply these lessons to the work we do with children with the most complex communication needs.","PeriodicalId":135612,"journal":{"name":"Perspectives on School-based Issues","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121777326","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
