The researcher made use of 70 pre-service 200 level Social Studies students in the two selected government owned Colleges of Education in Kogi State. Thirty-five pre-service teachers were selected from each of the two colleges of education.  Two instruments were used, namely, Controversial Issues and ICT Instructional Package (CIIIP) and Controversial Issues Achievement Test (CIAT) r = .86.  The administration of the instrument lasted for six weeks. Data collected were analysed using ANCOVA.  The results of the analysis indicate that ICT related strategies such as social media strategy contributed more significantly than conventional method in enhancing learning outcomes of the students in controversial issues discussion in Social Studies and there is moderating effect of academic ability on the students’ post-test achievement scores in controversial issues discussion in Social Studies.  Based on the findings, it is recommended that ICT related strategies will be of immense benefit in improving academic achievement of students in Social Studies, hence the use of ICT in Social Studies classroom should be inculcated in the curriculum of Social Studies educators.","PeriodicalId":133905,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Journal of Education","volume":"76 8","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113943196","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are schools that made the survival of Islam possible even with the presence of imperialists and colonial masters in Nigeria. These schools scattered all over Africa, have equally gained popularity among the Yoruba populace of Lagos State. However, despite the popularity they enjoy among Muslims, the Madrasah system has yet to gain government recognition, approval and neither does it enjoy acceptance and the goodwill of formal education stakeholders. The main objective of this study was to show case the realities of these schools in relation to their functionality with an aim to transforming them to meet up with contemporary and globalized educational needs of the 21st century society. A Survey research design was adopted with the use of a qualitative approach. Using the incidental sampling technique, 23 popular and notable Arabic schools were selected with the objectives to giving a full description of: their teachers and recruitment system; school management policies / systems; available physical environment and resources as well as the viability of the products of such schools. The study concluded with suggestions and recommendations that include amongst others; the imperativeness of the need for stakeholders’ involvement and a transformative agenda for effective needed change in the system.","PeriodicalId":133905,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Journal of Education","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125159349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main purpose of the study was to examine the influence of personality type, gender and school type on discipline among selected senior secondary school students in Ilorin Metropolis. This research work was designed to cover Senior Secondary II in Ilorin Metropolis. The sample for this study comprised 200 senior secondary school II students in Ilorin Metropolis. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 10 senior secondary schools (five public and five private). Data collected through a researcher designed questionnaire was analysed with the use of percentage and independent t-test. The formulated hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Results of the study showed that majority of the senior secondary school students in Ilorin Metropolis had type ‘B’ personality. Results also revealed that the level of discipline among selected senior secondary school students in Ilorin Metropolis was high. This means that majority of the sampled students were disciplined. This result is plausible where the students abide by rules and regulations within and outside school.","PeriodicalId":133905,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Journal of Education","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128486968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ten schools were selected for the study and school interest and aspiration questionnaire (reliability .74) was used to collect data from 381 proportionately selected respondents from a population of 56,339. Chi-square test was used to analyse the collected data. Findings from the study revealed that there was a significant difference in the interest to enrol in school – χ2 (35, N = 381) = 230.67, p = .00), and the aspiration to complete basic education – χ2 (33, N = 381) = 269.39, p = .00), between pupils on the Sokoto State pilot schools feeding programme and those not on the programme. The study found that the pupils on the pilot programme had higher interest to enrol in school and higher aspiration to complete basic education than those not on the programme. It was therefore concluded that the pilot school feeding programme has proven to be an effective tool in increasing the enrolment of pupils and improving their aspiration to complete basic education The study recommends that the programme be implemented in all primary schools in the state and that sensitization of parents on the need to enrol and retain their children at school should be a periodic and continuous process.","PeriodicalId":133905,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Journal of Education","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127694307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The world has changed in so many aspects of life. Technology has affected all sectors including the teaching-learning environment. Use of electronic materials to search for knowledge and using multimedia for content creation can no longer be separated from education. These developments have to bring a paradigm shift in the mode of instruction of Islamic education in the contemporary world. In this paper, there’s an analysis of the existing literature about the ICT use in the teaching-learning environment. The researcher recommends a blend and balance between the traditional methods and use of modern technologies to enhance the instruction of Islamic education.","PeriodicalId":133905,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Journal of Education","volume":"157 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122617055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two research questions were raised for the study. Multi-stage sample was used, where forty-six schools were purposively selected from two districts to participate in the study. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and checklist and questionnaire were used to collect data. The reliability coefficients of the instruments were found to be 0.85 and 0.84. The findings show that Lagos State Junior Secondary Schools did not regard the major relevance of the aesthetic nature of school grounds, such as good quality hedges; walkways, flower beds, ornamental trees, grassed fields, car parks and assembly grounds, therefore they do not have quality aesthetic designs for school grounds. On how schools were maintained with regards to floods during the rainy season, results show that the following categories of these agents participated in controlling flood: 22 (48%) schools enjoyed government intervention; 13 (28%) schools made use of students to control flood and 11 (24%) enjoyed no assistance from any quarters. None of the schools received parents’ intervention. It was therefore recommended that government should ensure that school grounds should be given special attention and should be designed to add befitting attraction to the school environment.","PeriodicalId":133905,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Journal of Education","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121993491","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its sporadic spread into the human environment entrenched awful experiences in all facets of life across the countries of the world. This is a type of virus also traceable to animals but now is ravaging the human environment as a new strain of coronavirus that makes it to be zoonotic in nature. To contain the spread of the virus ushered in some preventive policies and strategies in every people’s gathering including higher educational institutions. The alternative option to forestall and contain the spread of the virus in institutions of higher learning was to embrace the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) devices in the teaching and learning activities. Against the background, this study examined the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on the present and the future of higher education in Nigeria. It identified the present state of Nigeria’s higher educational institutions in the face of COVID-19 pandemic disease, the use of ICT in the teaching-learning activities in the higher education institutions and what the future of higher educational institutions portends. Arising from all these, conclusion was drawn and recommendations were given to include: Government should be ready to provide more infrastructural facilities such as physical facilities like buildings amongst others; and the ICT facilities/equipment in the tertiary institutions of learning should be upgraded to meet the global standard.","PeriodicalId":133905,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Journal of Education","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115283550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
