Da sich die Studie auf das ‚Adressieren der Komplexitäten von Kooperation und Kollaboration‘, wie es im Vorwort heißt, beschränkt und keine kritische Überprüfung bestehender Thesen und Praktiken vornimmt, wird nicht erforscht, wie effektiv einzelne kooperative Praktiken innerhalb des als komplex beschriebenen Feldes in Bezug auf kulturpolitische Ziele sind oder inwiefern die vorgestellten Konzepte und Praktiken, statt gesellschaftlichen Wandel zu befördern, den als prekär identifizierten Status quo womöglich eher perpetuieren. Die Studie mag zwar eine Reihe von Anregungen in Bezug auf ein im Vorwort angekündigtes ‚neues nachhaltiges Museumsmodell‘, kooperative Praktiken und mögliche Kooperationspartnern im Feld von Kunstmuseen, zivilen Akteuren und Kulturpolitik liefern. Angesichts der skizzierten konzeptuellen blind spots der Studie wäre es aus kulturpolitischer und -managerialer Sicht aber unabdingbar, die global geprägten, gleichwohl lokalen Rahmenbedingungen kooperativer Praxis genauer zu analysieren. Dadurch hätte nicht nur die hier exemplarisch ausgewählte lokale Fallstudie an analytischer Schärfe gewonnen. Denkbar wäre, dass die lokal in Corona, Queens kontextualisierte Fallstudie dann auch als ein erster konzeptueller Rahmen hätte dienen können, um kulturpolitische und -manageriale Praktiken in weiteren lokalen, in vielerlei Hinsicht global vernetzten Kontexten zu untersuchen, ohne US-amerikanisch geprägte Gesellschaftsund Museumsmodelle als singulären Maßstab zu nehmen.","PeriodicalId":133836,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cultural Management and Cultural Policy / Zeitschrift für Kulturmanagement und Kulturpolitik","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126634460","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Protests and demonstrations demanding a racial reckoning for Black Americans specifically, and all racial/ethnic minority groups, more generally, were added to an existing tsunami of social upheavals. The months of institutional lockdowns, restricted population movement, and a precipitous economic downturn that resulted from the global COVID-19 pandemic have taken a toll. As of this writing, the outcome of the 2020 presidential election portends either a continuation of the present or some relief to the recent governmental instability. After the initial disbelief, as COVID-19 spread unabated, museums around the globe turned to the internet as an alternative to their physical presence. Some pivoted with agility drawing on internal resources and creativity; others lumbered and needed external help. Most created digital analogs of physical offerings, others imagined new forms of interaction and many scurried to document and collect stories and material evidence from the pandemic. In this issue, the responses of cultural institutions and consortia, from Los Angeles, California and Washington, D.C. to Biel, Switzerland and Xi’an, China provide vivid examples. Very few institutions strayed from their avowed missions and collected or distributed food, assisted community members with emergency needs, or provided desperately needed practical and emotional support (DOERING 2020). Museum responses to the calls for a racial reckoning have been mostly eloquent but vapid in support of Black Lives Matter; many promises limited, however, in constructive or innovative approaches to solving institutional racism, enacting major changes in managerial or operational structures, in plans to decolonize collections, or include","PeriodicalId":133836,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cultural Management and Cultural Policy / Zeitschrift für Kulturmanagement und Kulturpolitik","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114892065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article, which shares preliminary findings from a study of the general public with an extensive oversample of culturally active Americans, is a resource to support this important movement. Working from the view that relevance and resilience are two-way streets, the researchers set out to understand what people and communities need from their cultural organizations now and in the future, and what cultural organizations can expect from communities. An open invitation to interested arts and culture organizations resulted in unprecedented participation across the sector: more than 650 organizations distributed the survey resulting in a sample of more than 120,000 respondents. Results are shared for the overall weighted sample as well as separately for Black or African American respondents and Hispanic or Latinx respondents, who are particularly underrepresented on the lists of arts and culture organizations in the United States. Die doppelte Krise aus Pandemie und systemischem Rassismus in den Vereinigten Staaten haben eine notwendige und überfällige Gelegenheit zur Reflexion, Anpassung und Veränderung im kulturellen Bereich eröffnet. Dieser Artikel präsentiert vorläufige Ergebnisse einer Studie über kulturell aktive Amerikaner und Amerikanerinnen. Was erwarten Individuen und Gruppen jetzt und in Zukunft von Kulturorganisationen und was erwarten die Kulturorganisationen von ihren Besucherinnen und Besuchern. Die von mehr als 650 Organisationen verteilte Umfrage führte zu einer noch nie dagewesenen Beteiligung von mehr als 120.000 Befragten im gesamten Kunstund Kulturbereich. Die Ergebnisse werden sowohl für eine gewichtete Gesamtstichprobe als auch nach separaten Kategorien für Schwarze oder afroamerikanische Befragte sowie hispanische oder lateinamerikanische Befragte, die in den Kunstund Kulturorganisationen in den Vereinigten Staaten besonders unterrepräsentiert sind, ausgewertet.","PeriodicalId":133836,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cultural Management and Cultural Policy / Zeitschrift für Kulturmanagement und Kulturpolitik","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121094410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

V. bislang zurückhaltend verhalten. Innerhalb der 15 Jahre seit Einrichtung des Angebotes haben gerade mal 13 % der Museen in dem Einzugsgebiet das Verfahren erfolgreich abgeschlossen. Mithilfe von Interviews wurden Vorund Nachteile, Motivation und Barrieren sowie praktische Erfahrungen mit dem Bewerbungsprozess bei den Verantwortlichen von 17 Museen abgefragt und hinsichtlich der Fragestellung systematisiert. Using the concepts of “isomorphism” on the one hand and dealing with “information asymmetries” on the other, this study examines why museums have so far been reluctant to apply for the Museum Association of Lower Saxony and Bremen’s seal of approval. Despite positive feedback about the initiative, only 13 % of the museums in the catchment area have successfully completed the procedure since its launch in 2006. With the help of interviews with museum staff of 17 institutions, the advantages and disadvantages, motivation and barriers as well as practical experience of the application procedure were analyzed and discussed with regard to the research question.","PeriodicalId":133836,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cultural Management and Cultural Policy / Zeitschrift für Kulturmanagement und Kulturpolitik","volume":"226 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114246497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cultural management as an agent for the decolonization of museums has generally been neglected. This paper offers an inside ex post reflection on the decolonization transition process the Belgian Royal Museum for Central Africa (RMCA) underwent. By explaining how the specific institutional character of museums makes change and transition difficult, this article aims to add a much needed cultural management perspective to the literature on the decolonization of museums. The paper makes four suggestionsto implement decolonizing strategies on all levels of museum management thereby fostering an understanding of the decolonization of museums as a holistic transition process and change project. Die Herausforderung der Dekolonisierung in der gegenwärtigen Welt ist selten aus einer Managementperspektive thematisiert worden, Kulturmanagement als Agent für die Dekolonisierung von Museen wurde im Allgemeinen vernachlässigt. Dieser Beitrag bietet eine Ex-post-Insider-Reflexion eines Dekolonialisierungsprozesses, den das Belgische Königliche Museum für Zentralafrika (RMCA) durchlief. Mit einer Analyse, wie der spezifische institutionelle Charakter von Museen Wandel und Transformation erschwert, ergänzt der Beitrag die vorhandene die Entkolonialisierungsforschung im Hinblick auf Museen um eine Kulturmanagementperspektive. Der Artikel unterbreitet vier Vorschläge, um Strategien zur Dekolonisierung von Museen auf allen ManagementEbenen umzusetzen und trägt so zu einem Verständnis von Dekolonisierung als umfassender Transformationsprozess und Veränderungsprojekt bei.","PeriodicalId":133836,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cultural Management and Cultural Policy / Zeitschrift für Kulturmanagement und Kulturpolitik","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134002038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
