With each passing day it is becoming a major source of concern. Due to recent findings showing the availability of pharmaceutical components in the environment, particularly in ground water bodies, pharmaceuticals have gained a growing amount of attention from worldwide health regulatory bodies and have become one of the most significant water pollutants. The aim of this article is to review the environmental hazards of pharmaceuticals that have been reported in various literature sources to promote awareness on safe usage of medicines, to increase pharmaceutical manufacturers’ knowledge on environmental safety aspects and to arrest the attention of pharmacovigilance practitioners to some of the emerging problems caused by medicines. Pharmaceutical waste has been a source of huge concern amongst environmental scientists. Pharmaceutical manufacturers and pharmacovigilance scientists should invest more attention to these increasing environmental concerns caused by medications. Ecopharmacovigilance is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the science and activities concerned with the detection, assessment, understanding, and prevention of adverse events or other related problems caused by pharmaceuticals in the environment that affect people and other animal species. This review is an attempt to compile information on Ecopharmacovilance, with an emphasis on the Indian perspective.","PeriodicalId":13313,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology","volume":"14 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90863935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nursing workers are at high risk for occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens via sharp injuries of the needle-stick. Needle-stick injuries (NSIs) are described as penetrating wounds caused by a device that is contaminated with another person’s body fluids. Needle-stick injuries are injuries acquired by needles like -scalp vein needles, hypodermic needles, blood sample collection needles, intracath stylets, lumbar puncture needles used to connect parts of IV delivery systems. Needle-stick injuries (NSIs) form a medium for the transmission of bloodborne infections. Strict use of personnel protective equipment while working in the hospital should be made compulsory. To study incidences of needle stick injury among nurses working in Rural tertiary care Unit, Loni. Ethical approval for this study was obtained from the Institutional Ethical Committee. Seventy-six nurses, who fulfilled inclusion criteria were included and data was obtained through survey. This study involves 76 nursing staff. Of them all, 27(35.5%) nursing staff experienced NSIsThe administration of medication was common action that caused most of needle-stick injuries mentioned by 14 (18.4%) nursing staff. IV cannula was the device that caused many needle-stick injuries reported by 17 (21.1%) nursing staff. Thenursing professionals are the main key players in both elective and emergency situations. There is a quite higher incidence of needle stick injury among critical care nurses. This might be due to handling of emergency cases and attempting to secure the intravenous line or to deliver the medications. Creating awareness and training appropriately is mandatory for critical care nurses.","PeriodicalId":13313,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84586150","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study was designed to determine the possible association between ACE gene polymorphism and DN. The study included 242 samples: DN (n = 121), type 2 Diabetes mellitus (DM2) (n = 60) and control (n = 61). The blood samples were collected from the subjects, followed by DNA extraction. Insertion deletion polymorphism of ACE gene studied using specific primers. Patients using Lisinopril were followed for two months. The ACE genotype distribution in DN patients was as follows: DD (n = 47; 38.84%), II (n = 17; 14.04%) and DI (n = 57; 47.10%). In DM group the genotype distribution was DD (n = 4; 6.66%), II (n = 25; 41.66%) and DI (n = 31; 51.66%) while in control group DD (n = 38; 62.29%), II (n = 1; 1.63%) and DI (n = 22; 36.06%). The comparison of II genotype to DD genotype was reflected by p-value =0.0001, OR=17.28 and 95% CI 5.313-49.58. The percent decrease of micro-albuminuria after two months with the use of Lisinopril 10 mg twice a day in DD, II and DI genotype of DN were 31.27%, 12.37% and 16.81%, respectively. Our findings revealed that DD genotype has strong association with DN but not a risk factor for development of disease.","PeriodicalId":13313,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology","volume":"45 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90935651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Understanding of the topic and knowledge gained during online classes were rated average and above average by 59% and 53% of the students respectively. Many students felt that long screen hours have made the classes less interesting and caused health issues like headaches, eyestrain, and backache. They also felt that online classes were less interactive and did not provide much clinical and practical knowledge.Students showed a negative response to online classes. There is a need to make online classes more interactive and interesting by using certain strategies like problem-solving activities, quizzes, discussions, surveys, and polls. Faculty should be trained in good online teaching practices to ensure its success.","PeriodicalId":13313,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78523829","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
