We investigate human motion across the whole body, to explore what parts of the body exhibit more unique movement patterns, and are more suitable to identify users in general. We collect and analyze full-body motion data across various activities (e.g., sitting, standing), handheld objects (uni- or bimanual), and tasks (e.g., watching TV or walking). Our analysis shows, e.g., that gait as a strong feature amplifies when carrying items, game activity elicits more unique behaviors than texting on a smartphone, and motion features are robust across body parts whereas posture features are more robust across tasks. Our work provides a holistic reference on how context affects human motion to identify us across a variety of factors, useful to inform researchers and practitioners of behavioral biometric systems on a large scale.","PeriodicalId":132553,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2023","volume":"25 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125674465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These methodologies are seen as crucial to adapt technology design to older people's needs and increase their acceptance of digital technology. Nevertheless, it is often difficult to reach a diverse group of older people, for instance, people with limited technology skills, limited mobility, or cognitive issues. In addition, gerontologists criticized lately how older people's participation unfolds in technology design projects, e.g. that people are pushed into the role of users. Little is known about the motivations and needs of older adults regarding their participation in HCI research. To close this gap, we conducted an online survey (N=46) and semi-structured interviews (N=8) focusing on motivations, willingness and experiences regarding participation. Results show that people are generally willing to participate due to interest in the topic, learning new things and social bonding. However, despite the conceptions within HCI that long-term engagement is crucial within participatory design, older people in the study preferred less commitment and more open formats.","PeriodicalId":132553,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2023","volume":"107 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124858315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, CS tends to cultivate the sharing of large amounts of data. Towards this, our research aims to understand better citizens’ potential privacy concerns in such participation formats. We, therefore, investigate how meaningful public participation can be facilitated to foreground citizens’ values regarding mobility data donation in CS. In this regard, we developed a two-step method: (1) a workshop concept for participatory value elicitation and (2) an analysis procedure to examine the empirical data collected systematically. Our findings based on three workshops provide new directions for improving data donation practices in CS.","PeriodicalId":132553,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2023","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133360998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Digital annotation tools provide easily searchable annotations and facilitate sharing documents and remote collaboration with others. On the other hand, advantages of paper, such as creative freedom and intuitive use, can get lost when annotating digitally. There is a large amount of research indicating that paper outperforms digital annotation tools in task time, error recall and task load. However, most research in this field is rather old and does not take into consideration increasing screen resolution and performance, as well as better input techniques in modern devices. We present three user studies comparing different annotation media in the context of proof-reading tasks. We found that annotating on paper is still faster and less stressful than with a PC or tablet computer, but the difference is significantly smaller with a state-of-the-art device. We did not find a difference in error recall, but the used medium has a strong influence on how users annotate.","PeriodicalId":132553,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2023","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127626134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The computer-generated (CG) VR application, entitled Zenctuary VR, was designed with the intention of giving the users a pleasant experience with the benefits of easing anxiety symptoms, boosting positive feelings and lowering negative ones, thus having a restorative effect. For this, we designed a graphically high-resolution, natural environment with playful interactions. The testing was conducted with adults diagnosed with attentional deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and with a neurotypical control group in order to investigate whether the ADHD group experiences the app differently from the latter group and to enhance its effectiveness specifically for individuals with ADHD. While the assessed scales for presence, immersion, feeling of flow, gained skills, usability, and judgment did not differ between the two groups, overall their evaluations of the experience and the software application were favorable. We also gathered insightful comments on the application's shortcomings, which will enable us to improve it and make it more enjoyable and ultimately more beneficial for the users.","PeriodicalId":132553,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2023","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121306486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As standard VR controllers fail in generating realistic haptic feedback, we designed HapticCollider, a kinetic controller rendering force feedback, e.g., to simulate a collision when hammering or hitting against a virtual object. In our user study, we demonstrated that HapticCollider significantly increases realism in tool usage compared with a standard VR controller. As key factors for tool use realism in VR, we identified force feedback, controller weight, and grip shape in combination with software solutions, namely collision prediction, and control-display ratio to render the force timing, as well as, the tool position according to the user’s expectations.","PeriodicalId":132553,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2023","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115178724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the integration of ELSI within an agile work environment remains a challenge. To address this issue, we propose a new role, the ELSI Product Owner (ELSI-PO), within the Scrum process. The ELSI-PO serves as a mediator and communicator, responsible for negotiating ELSI aspects with stakeholders and ensuring their operationalization throughout the development process. In this paper, we present the steps taken to develop the ELSI-PO concept, we discuss the organizational positioning of the ELSI-PO in Scrum environments and we outline the tasks of the ELSI-PO in different Scrum phases. Our work-in-progress concept offers a solution to meet the growing demands for ELSI as a fixed building block in the agile framework.","PeriodicalId":132553,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2023","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125870985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
