We first introduce the context which pushes the industrial partner to decentralize the production management and to look for a short term scheduling system. The approach and the results are presented. We then deal with the integration aspects. The existing MRP-II system is in charge of the long- and medium-term planning which are complementary to the new short term scheduling system. We also highlight the main functions of the finite capacity scheduling tool as well as the constraints taken into account. We then give a demonstrative example to illustrate the dynamic group technology feature, allowing a substantial reduction of the machine setup procedure. By relating the process parameters measured to the physical characteristics of the part, one can immediately infer quality characteristics to each and every part as it is made. This provides 100% inspection and does away with the time lag between manufacture and inspection in high speed high volume manufacturing with consequent elimination of product holds and disposition of same. In this paper, we outline the features of MPC and propose a new MPC method derived from the modification of generalized predictive control (GPC). Firstly, a Kalman filter based predictor is introduced in order to improve the robustness of the predictor against noises. Secondly, a time-dependent weighting factor is introduced into the MPC's quadratic type cost function, in order to improve the transient response characteristics. Furthermore, the cost function is extended by adding a new term related to the reference tracking error of the manipulation variables. Thirdly, a parameter tuning method is proposed that adjusts the weighting factors in the cost function considering robust stability of the control system. Finally, the proposed MPC method with and without constraint conditions that are the upper/lower limits and rate limits for both manipulation variables and process control variables, is formulated. The pulse dropping or transition region is examined for continuous and discontinuous modulation strategies. Transition region characteristics for a number of modulation strategies are introduced. The effect of the transition region on field oriented control is presented. The adverse effects of bus disturbances on current regulated AC inverters, while in the transition region, are demonstrated by experimental results. The problems encountered are the consequence of the reduced gain of the PWM inverter regardless of the PWM strategy. A compensated modulation technique (CMT) adaptable to continuous and discontinuous modulators eliminates the voltage error and transitions to six-step operation without inducing a voltage transient. The CMT applies to voltage and current regulated PWM inverters employing most of the modern switching strategies. We give a new learning algorithm which reduces the complexity of the multilayer backpropagation network by pruning insignificant weights and chooses the best size to suit the underlying complexity of the recognition problem. This new learning algorithm is also compared with other network redundancy reduction techniques and tested on 3-bit parity problem. In this particular application, moment invariant features were chosen to train the multilayer backpropagation network. As the circuits have regular shape with a limited number of corners, a fast corner based moment invariance estimation algorithm is employed. The automation of the final visual inspection lags behind that for other processes in LSI assembly. To reduce costs and standardize inspection criteria, technology for this automation should be developed as soon as possible. To automate the final visual inspection, one must solve several problems. As packages are becoming larger and lead pitches finer the authors have developed an image input method that satisfies those divergent conditions. In previous work, a position and attitude sensing method was proposed using a CCD sensor to generate digital data outputs. Based on this achievement, a control system design using a nonlinear feedback technique for magnetic suspended model position and attitude control is applied. The studied system accomplishes a control of the suspended model under different position and attitude in a test fixture. To overcome the fast real time requirement in the control, ROM mapping technique and necessary improvements in circuit design will be discussed. The control law based on system dynamics is formulated, and its implementations with hardware design to the desired output are demonstrated. This UPS features a novel SMR (switch mode rectifier) that is applied to the input converter section and a newly developed low-loss IGBT (insulated gate bipolar transistor) that is employed in both inverter and converter sections. The SMR, as a single converter, has functions for high-frequency isolation, enhancement of input power factor and stabilization of DC output voltage. In the case of a new type of DC-clamped SMR (DCC-SMR), the number of current flowing devices in the frequency changer has been reduced to 1/2 of those compared with systems using a conventional SMR, and simplification of the snubber discharge circuit has also been achieved. We design a hardware model for the multiprocessor system by using hardware description language (HDL). The system consists of a Petri net controller, some processor elements and buses. We also design the Fire Unit which checks whether the transitions can be fired or not on the gate-array. It can operate in three clocks to check and fire a transition. Furthermore, we evaluated performance of the implementation of the proposed system when applied to robot arm control.
