In-process quality monitoring for the high speed high volume manufacturing environment
By embedding sensors in manufacturing machinery to observe discrete part manufacturing operations as they happen, it is possible and economical to significantly improve the quality of the finished parts by measuring at the instant of manufacture those parameters which affect the final characteristics of each and every part, rather than sampling a few parts some time later. By relating the process parameters measured to the physical characteristics of the part, one can immediately infer quality characteristics to each and every part as it is made. This provides 100% inspection and does away with the time lag between manufacture and inspection in high speed high volume manufacturing with consequent elimination of product holds and disposition of same. Benefits are significant process improvements resulting in increased productivity and quality with resulting cost savings.<>
