Optical properties of CdZnO/MgZnO QW structures, considering various applied electric fields are evaluated by using many-body effects. The strain-induced piezoelectric polarization and the spontaneous polarization can be reduced effectively by applied electric field in CdZnO/ZnMgO quantum well (QW) structures with high Cd composition. That is, optical properties as a function of internal and external fields in the CdZnO/ZnMgO QW with various applied electric field result in the increased optical gain due to the fact that the QW potential profile is flattened as a result of the compensation of the internal field by the reverse field as confirmed by Stark shifts. These results demonstrate that a high-performance optical device operation can be realized in CdZnO/MgZnO QW structures by reducing the droop phenomenon.","PeriodicalId":130577,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128970052","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the behavior of web services with TCP/IP is stochastic, detailed characteristics of data transmission delay should be investigated for time-constraint smart grid communications. In this paper, we have chosen a new Web services standard IEEE1888 as the protocol for soft-real-time applications such as Automated Demand Response (ADR) aggregation. The statistical distribution of data transmission delay was measured using our emulator experiments and NS2 network simulations. We found that the variation of delay sometimes reaches more than ten times of the average in the cases of heavy packet loss rate. Although the IEEE1888 is better than conventional protocols, attentions on time-out occurrence should be paid for the smart grid web services communications.","PeriodicalId":130577,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"169 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122797302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The immersion time was 20s and the rinsing time was 40s. X-ray diffractometry was used to determine grain sizes and the crystalline structure of the thin films. The morphological characterization was carried out using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) methods. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy coupled to SEM and TEM were used for identifying the elements and determining the composition of the films. Optical properties were studied by spectrophotometric measurements. The results indicate that the CdS film deposited has a hexagonal structure, stoichiometric composition and high transmittance in the visible region.","PeriodicalId":130577,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123016955","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Real time galvanizing line data from the facilities of the participating companies were collected and entered into the decision support system called Galvanizing Energy Profiler and Decision Support System (GEPDSS) [1].The major process and system parameters which are of interest to the galvanizing industry were varied in the decision support model for insight into sensitivity of these parameters with respect to energy efficiency. The results and trends of the variables are analyzed with a particular focus on energy consumption during both production hours and downtime to better understand the productivity of production lines. A detailed analysis is undertaken to study potential energy and cost savings achievable if new pot hardware of increased life were adopted, downtime was decreased or other energy efficiency measures were implemented on a line. Finally a comparison between the amount of energy consumption by the participating lines reported by the decision support system and the actual energy bills of those lines was done to verify the effectiveness and accuracy of GEPDSS.","PeriodicalId":130577,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117163479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, we conducted a comparative study of solar radiation values recorded with those values given by the general mathematical model of Rietveld. Results enabled us to calculate new Rietveld model parameters that fit the best our actual data. We used actual data from a meteorological station and we used a mathematical model to calculate the global solar radiation of Tetuan. In this study, the nonlinearities and the parametric uncertainties of the system are taking into account. The strategy of this algorithm consists on the generation of a voltage reference which corresponds to maximum power points using a fuzzy algorithm. This is obtained from direct measurements of solar irradiation and temperature of the PV-panel. After this; the paper proposes a robust control based on fuzzy Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) model to follow this reference and consequently force the operating point of a panel to track the maximum power point (MPP). Two objectives are covered by this control: (i) to guarantee H∞ performances and minimize the influence of disturbances on the output; (ii) to ensure stability against parametric variations of the system. These two objectives have been achieved by the resolution of LMIs system. The performances of the proposed approach are ensured in simulation, using real profiles of irradiance and temperature measured on photovoltaic platform.","PeriodicalId":130577,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"156 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122915816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While its principal seems primarily suited for a digital implementation, the analog version analysis was relatively neglected. Moreover, very few results have been presented in both cases for a significant performance analysis in presence of static and dynamic solicitations, related to the main field perturbations such as solar irradiance intensity, temperature, shading and load variations. Hence, this paper is aimed to undergo, through simulation in a Matlab/Simulink environment, a systematic performance evaluation of an optimized, easy to implement, analog P&O MPPT algorithm. The behaviour of the MPPT stage of interest, is investigated under a multitude of the various working conditions quoted above, with either topologies based on a buck or a boost power DC-DC converter. Significant results in this scope are presented, before integrating the designed MPPT stage in a real photovoltaic chain application. The latter consists of a photovoltaic solar shelter equipped with a stand alone solar battery charging terminal for electric scooters. This work being part of a project which final objective is to realize and implement, by local means, specified operational demonstrators of renewable energy standalone systems, to be sited at the ongoing building yard of the new “reduced emission” town project of Boughzoul, located at the middle of the steppic highlands of Algeria (170 Kms south of Algiers). In fact, a lot of investment opportunities in the sector of solar thermal energy are offered. To establish this kind of technology, predicting hourly radiation received during an average day of the month is very important. This paper proposes a statistical comparison between measured data of mean hourly global radiation at two different climate regions located in Morocco and three predicting models. Statistical indicators which are root mean square error (RMSE), mean bias error (MBE) and correlation coefficient (R) are used. We noticed that the Collares-Preira and Rabl correlation as modified by Gueymard (CPRG) fits more closely the measured data in these two regions at the West (Casablanca) and the East (Ouarzazate) sides of Atlas Mountains. Collares-Preira and Rabl model (CPR) gives almost the same result as CPRG but the Whillier Liu and Joradan (WLJ) under-estimates the measured values at solar noon.","PeriodicalId":130577,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123166629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The reduction of absorber thickness can decrease costs at the expense of reduction cell efficiency. In this study a single junction CuIn1-xGaxS2 (CIGS) solar cells has been simulated with an emphasis on identifying the effect of adding a second CIGS layer on the performance of the cell. To evaluate this, we have simulated the cell using bilayer CIGS (1.15 and 1.28 eV) and compared it with the cell with one absorber layer of 1.15 eV. While the best performance of CIGS cell is for absorber thickness beyond 2.5 μm, our simulation results suggest that the adding of a second CIGS layer with different bandgap can reduce this thickness to less than 1 μm.","PeriodicalId":130577,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"768 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123280244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wireless transmission is ideal in cases where instantaneous or continuous energy transfer is needed, but interconnecting wires are inconvenient, hazardous, or impossible. Antenna has become the most vital element in any RF system due to its capability as a radio wave transceiver. A properly designed antenna is desirable to ensure efficient transfer of energy.
