The electric energy storage is substituted by a boost chopper. Thus the electric power and DC output voltage became depending to the duty cycle of the boost chopper. The main proposed control is based on regulation of the inductance current of the boost converter. Finally the electric power produced is directly injected in a low voltage grid. The reasons are varied and complex, but ultimately the natural resources of oil and gas from which the GCC nations derive most of their wealth are finite. Pollution is a growing concern in the Gulf, and the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar have some of the highest per capita carbon emission rates in the world, primarily from gas flaring and refining, and the proliferation of vehicles without emission controls. The major problem of these sub-stations is the unbalance caused by the connection between two phases of high voltage network. This connection leads to an unbalanced current, this current is decomposed into two sequences (positive and negative), creating negative sequence voltage in different points of the network. The parallel VSI STATCOM is one of the modern compensation solutions for the negative sequence current. It allows injecting currents in the sub-station connection point in order to get a balanced network. This paper describes the structure, control strategy, and performance of a VSI STATCOM.","PeriodicalId":130577,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"2014 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114639719","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Adjusting the tilt angle seasonally ensures high energy collection efficiency through different seasons, especially winter, when the sun radiation is limited. The purpose of this study is to determine the variations in tilt angles for domestic solar collectors in order to maximize the amount of solar radiation captured. As an example of this for the Moroccan environment, the monthly optimum tilt angles in Ifrane were determined from the monthly average direct and diffuse radiations on horizontal surfaces, which were estimated based on the Liu and Jordan model [1, 2]. The results showed high tilt angles during winter (71° average tilt) and autumn (47° average tilt) and very low tilt angles during summer season (5° average tilt). Moreover, a significant increase was noticed in the estimated solar radiation on tilted surfaces as we change the tilt angle monthly, seasonally and bi-annually instead of leaving it mounted at a fixed position throughout the entire year. The study indicates that changing the tilt angle monthly would result in an increase of total radiation on the inclined surface by 14.5% during winter season and a yearly average increase of 10% compared to a fixed position. On the other hand, adjusting the tilt angle bi-annually would result in an increase of 12.5% during winter season and a yearly average increase of 7% in total radiation.","PeriodicalId":130577,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121325230","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present the status of WSN based on Zigbee and IR-UWB technologies, and the specificities of each one. A simulation of a sink based architecture network with various nodes' number has been performed to prove the good impact when using IR-UWB technology to decrease the energy consumption and reduce the latency time. The daily load curve is characterized by two load peaks in the morning and evening periods. The Algerian government has taken measures that consist of introducing renewable energies in order to meet the future electricity demand. In fact, PV systems constitute an alternative, especially during the morning period when solar radiation is abundant. Therefore, the application of Smart Grid concept for electrical grid management purpose will have a beneficial impact in terms of reliability and security. In this paper, we present an experimental study of a grid connected PV system and the performance evaluation under real meteorological conditions with a web-based monitoring procedure applied to the grid connected PV system management.
