The vitamin A deficiency is a public health problem (prevalence of night blindness is 1% or higher in children 24–59 months of age or where the prevalence of vitamin A deficiency (serum retinol 0.70 μmol/l or lower) is 20% or higher in infants and children 6–59 months of age), high-dose vitamin A supplementation is recommended in infants and children 6–59 months of age. Objective: This study was performed To evaluate the effectiveness of video assisted teaching on knowledge regarding vitamin ‘A’ deficiency among mothers of under-five children in selected urban area. Material and Methods: Non probability convenient sampling technique was used for selection of sample and samples who met the inclusion criteria were included in this study. Structured questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge of mothers regarding Vitamin A deficiency. Sample consisted of 60 mothers of under five children in selected anganwadi. The pretest knowledge of the mothers is assessed by self-administered questionnaire. Video assisted teaching regarding Vitamin A deficiency was given on the same day. The posttest knowledge of mothers was assessed after 7 days with the same tools. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics and presented using tables and graphs. Result: This study has helped to assess the knowledge regarding mothers of under-five children in selected urban area regarding vitamin ‘A’ deficiency. Knowledge of samples were displayed low 61.7% and average 38.3% in pre-test but in post-test it has been improved to displayed low 5% Average 46.7% and good 48.3% categories. The calculated t value was found to be 11.771 for overall knowledge of regarding vitamin ‘A’ deficiency. The video assisted teaching was an effective tool to improve the knowledge of samples regarding vitamin ‘A’ deficiency. Methods: The aim of this study was to compare the potency of emotional freedom technique on post partum blues and parenting stress among post caesarean section mothers. The total sample size was 150 post partum caesarean section mothers. All study subjects were asked preferences about emotional freedom technique or standard methods of care. According to their strong preference the treatment conditions were allocated. 150 subjects were interviewed before intervention by assessing background variables. On the 2nd post caesarean section day, the subjects were assessed for postpartum blues by using Likert Am I Blue? Assessment scale and parental stress was measured by adopting parental stress scale. Experimental arm received emotional freedom technique for 30 minutes, twice a day (morning and evening) for 4 days. Control arm received standard methods of care. Posttest was conducted by using the same assessment techniques in experimental arm and control arm. Results: Paired‘t’ test and Unpaired‘t’ test showed statistical significance by scaling down the symptoms of post partum blues and parenting stress in experimental arm comparatively to the control arm among post caesarean section mothers. Conclusion: Emotional freedom technique was quite effective for curtailing the symptoms of post partum blues and parenting stress among post caesarean section mothers.","PeriodicalId":129862,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Advances in Nursing Management","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121953814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Women dream of the perfect birth with less pain. But severe pain is a phenomenon embedded in the very nature of human existence. Though experiencing pain during labour is a universal feature of childbirth, the degree of pain perception can be reduced using many simple, effective, low cost non-pharmacological methods which also helps in improving labour progress and patient satisfaction. The concept of painless child birth gave rise to many scientific discoveries and research findings. Among that Lamaze method is one, which prepares mother for child birth and to tackle Labour pain. Objective: The objective of this study are to evaluate the effectiveness of Lamaze method in terms of pain perception, anxiety and progress of labour among primi mothers in first stage of labour admitted at Christian fellowship Hospital, Oddanchatram. Method: The research design used for the study was quasi experimental nonequivalent control group posttest only design. The sample size was 60 samples. Out of which 30 were in experimental group and 30 were in control group. The Samples were selected by using Non probability purposive sampling technique. Primi mothers at their term was selected and was given antenatal teaching on “Normal labor process and non-pharmacological labour pain management” in antenatal OPD for about 30 minutes. The same primi mothers who attended teaching were selected for experimental group during their labour period. During the first hour of active first stage of labour Lamaze intervention of visual stimuli was provided by showing natural sceneries during each contraction for the second hour auditory stimuli was provided by making the mother to listen to light music by using ear phone. During the 3rd hour of active first stage of labour abdominal effleurage stroke was done during each painful contractions. Followed by that hot water bag application on the sacral region was provided and was continued till delivery. Primi gravid mothers who did not undergo Lamaze teaching and interventions were selected for control group. Posttest was done on both experimental and control group after four hours of active stage of labor to assess the level of labor pain perception, the level of anxiety and progress of labor by using Universal pain assessment scale, modified Max Hamilton anxiety rating scale and Labor progress assessment scale. The level of satisfaction on Lamaze method among experimental group was assessed by using Likert scale on satisfaction of Lamaze method. Total time taken to perform posttest in both groups was 30 minutes. The gathered data were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Results: Independent “t” value for level of pain perception was 16.08(table value=2.001) which was significant at P<0.05 level.
