ArabSTS aims to translate the Arabic text to Arabic Sign Language (ArbSL). This work is a part of a big project developed in Latice Laboratory which is the WebSign project [3]. WebSign is a web Application taking as input a natural sentence aiming to translate this sentence in a visual and body language in real time. The Animation level is based on the technology of the Avatar. Our work focuses on the Arabic language as the text in the input, which needs many treatments due to the particularity of this language. ArabSTS starts from the linguistic treatment of the Arabic sentence, passing through the definition and the development of the Arabic Annotation Gloss system, which is the main topic of this paper, and coming finally to the generation of an animated sentence using the avatar technology.","PeriodicalId":129665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology and Accessibility (ICTA)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121275488","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For instance, we can cite the translation applications. This paper reports on a review of literature on augmented reality text translation. The main components of any augmented reality translation application are: text detection, text extraction and text translation. Therefore the factors considered in our study include: the used Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for text extraction, the used technique/algorithm for detecting the text, the used API's for text translation, the used tools in developing these applications and used programming language(s), the application supporting platform(s), the supported translation languages, the dataset used for evaluating the system and lastly, the results of the experiments. In total, 12 studies published between 1998 and 2016 were analyzed. The main findings from this review provide the current state of the art on research in augmented reality in text translation. Furthermore, the paper permits to set up the ways towards developing an android mobile application for real time Arabic text translation. Although the enrichment and the integration of the new technologies in the translation process, the existing applications are still limited to few number of languages. Arabic language is one of those not yet supported.","PeriodicalId":129665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology and Accessibility (ICTA)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133714458","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The underlying theory is that educational 3D interactive simulations can enhance learning by, first of all, adding a playful element to the learning process which boosts motivation, and, second, by creating an opportunity to \"learn by doing\" when enabling the learner to explore the simulated phenomena by themselves. Furthermore, conversational agents can enhance and strengthen the simulation-based learning environment by playing the role of guide or tutor, e.g. offering hints when the student is struggling, as well as evaluator, which is needed to provide appropriate feedback and guidance. Subsequently, a prototype of an educational system that combines a Physics simulation and a conversational agent was developed and then evaluated. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed educational system to induce learning gains, we conducted a randomized controlled trial experiment. In particular, we compared the following experimental conditions: using a simulation alone followed by a full system that included both the simulation and a conversational agent versus the conversational agent alone followed by the full system. In both conditions, students were exposed to the same content.","PeriodicalId":129665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology and Accessibility (ICTA)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129052319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The students in the course came from multi-cultural, multi-national, and multi-ethnic backgrounds. Preliminary results indicate that all students use an online site and the OERs to collaborate on group assignments and to build relationships with their peers. In addition, most of the international students spent extra time reviewing the OERs and other materials placed online to prepare for in-class discussions and exams. As the higher education landscape continues to tilt towards a global, open-sourced, and inter-connected learning environment, the use of OERs will allow faculty members to help students enhance learning experiences, build strong connections with their peers, and gain greater appreciation of diverse cultures and diverse viewpoints, while in college.","PeriodicalId":129665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology and Accessibility (ICTA)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133451431","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, some children who suffer from severe complex physical disabilities are deprived from going to school because of their need for constant care. Because of this the \"Physical disability challengers' organization\" started a project for providing computer enhanced education for some disabled children who can't attend school. This study used the descriptive analytical method. It aimed at evaluating the project according the four zones of the inclusive learning Lab by evaluating: the ability of the project's academic subjects to provide multidisciplinary approach to formal educational, and the infrastructure accessibility for the disabled children. Besides, assessing the utilization of the ICT and the project development of social and self-acceptance in the children. The study concluded that the project's academic subjects didn't provide approach to formal education. The infrastructure allowed some accessibility for the disabled children. There was no utilization of ICT. The project developed some social and self-acceptance in the children. Based on these results the study provided two years project plan for educating disabled children.","PeriodicalId":129665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology and Accessibility (ICTA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130138536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The autistic children typically have problems in perceiving and displaying social clues and sentiments, a condition that obscures, even more, their deficiency of interaction abilities. Recent research has shown that robots can be helpful in stimulating social skills in autistic children, encouraging imitation, touch, eye gaze, and communication with persons. This paper aims to understand the theoretical basis of how robots can be helpful in improving the social skills of children with Autism. The paper will also examine empirical literature along with the particular focus on social robots which have been designed especially to improve social skills of children with autism.","PeriodicalId":129665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology and Accessibility (ICTA)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130450361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

LA is the collection and analysis of electronic data to observe hidden patterns in the learning process. One of the main aims of LA is to help faculty and advisors determine which students might be at risk and who are facing difficulty in their academic career. Drawing upon extant literature, this paper proposes and discusses the development of a new prediction model. The proposed model takes the advantage of the fully electronic characteristics of student data, which include student activity and their marks. Compact Prediction Tree (CPT+) has been described in literature and has proved its efficacy to solve various problems in many different disciplines. In this paper, a new prediction model based on a CPT+ algorithm to predict the next grade for upcoming courses or for the registered course(s), is proposed. To evaluate the performance of the proposed model, dataset in CAS were applied as the test problem set. The method was examined in terms of accuracy and its result was significantly better than other prediction models, namely Dependency Graph (DG) and Prediction by Partial Matching (PMP).","PeriodicalId":129665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology and Accessibility (ICTA)","volume":"213 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114088792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has been established in prior research that it is possible to predict probability of survival (or death) of an ICU patient ahead of time using vital signs, which allows caregivers extra time and measures to save the patient's life. In this work we are focusing on predicting the survival of ICU patients using lab test results. We have identified several challenges associated with this task, and propose an efficient and scalable data driven solution. Specifically, we propose two complementing techniques for feature reduction and selection. The first one is a knowledge intensive patient grouping scheme, which helps in forming homogeneous groups of data. The second technique uses multiple criteria for selecting the best features from a dataset based on the feature coverage, individual predictive ability as well as inter-dependency among features. We combine these two techniques into a unified framework that strengthens the individual contribution of each technique. We have evaluated our proposed technique on a real ICU patients database and achieved notable success in reducing 89% or more of the feature vector, while improving the prediction accuracy upto 6% and achiving upto 7 times speedup.","PeriodicalId":129665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology and Accessibility (ICTA)","volume":"2014 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114596223","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
