Increasingly, it is being seen as a powerful development tool which used to help students with special needs gain access to educational resources and enable them to become active learners alongside their hearing peers. For students with hearing impairments, ICT can play an especially important role in developing their language experiences without being dependent on the spoken words and this by adopting specialized tools used either in the classroom or at a distance. The main objective of this paper is to highlight the potential benefits of using ICT in deaf education and the major challenges that lie ahead. Particular attention will be paid to the ongoing research project, tuniSigner, which deals with the development of new ICT-based applications specifically aimed at supporting the learning of sign language notations to deaf learners by adopting avatar technology.","PeriodicalId":129665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology and Accessibility (ICTA)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121928352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As researchers talk about learning personalization since 1968, many learning personalization approaches and tools already exist. However those approach and tools are designed without taking in account the MOOCs' specificities. First, in this paper we propose to clarify the influence of MOOCs' specificities on the learning personalization process. Then we will propose accordingly our personalization strategy. It consists on transforming the heterogeneous masse of learners to homogenous sub-masses of learners. The transformation is done using a set of personalization parameters. Our approach provides a personalized learning process referring to the groups' profiles and respecting the teachers' personalization policy.","PeriodicalId":129665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology and Accessibility (ICTA)","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130551723","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work deals with the Felder-Silverman Index of Learning Styles (ILS) questionnaire which considered as a common tool for learners' learning styles assessment in adaptive e-learning systems. This questionnaire contains 44 questions, available free on the internet and its validity and reliability have been tested. One of the main concerns related to this questionnaire is the number of questions the learners has to answer. The completion of this questionnaire is a time consuming and very boring task for the learners. For overcoming this issue, some works proposed to reduce the number of the ILS questions needed to determine the learning style of the learner. Others works investigated the implicit detection of the learner's learning style from his/her behaviour while using the e-learning system or computer educational games. This paper lists these approaches, highlights the limits of each one of them and proposes an alternative one. The proposed approach is based on the division of the ILS questionnaire on four sub-questionnaires; re-implementation of the algorithm used to assess the learner's preferences on the four dimensions of the Felder-Silverman learning style model; and the creation of four web services to replace the existing web-based version of the ILS.","PeriodicalId":129665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology and Accessibility (ICTA)","volume":"170 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133494426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When it comes to reading modes (Printed-text vs Digital), researches show discrepancy in results and preferences among generations. Reading comprehension is always seen as a pivotal subject in any reading process or task. This paper aims to examine the key assessment factors to be considered to assess the impacts of reading modes on reading comprehension. Several factors and methodologies were observed that span across several disciplines like neuroscience, brain research, instructional and learning technologies, human computer interactions, information technology among others. In this paper, only the common and most frequently used factors were selected and described, namely reader's attention, reading speed, reading workload, and reading preference.","PeriodicalId":129665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology and Accessibility (ICTA)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127972588","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An important advancement in today's technology is the ability to build in ad-hoc and opportunistic way the collaborating group size to disseminate and share data. Using simple communication patterns, these networks are currently a hot topic research area on how adapting and running collaborative applications. In this paper, we are interested in Collaborative Editors (CE) which allow many dispersed users to simultaneously manipulate the same shared data, such as textual or multimedia documents. More precisely, we present a series of experiments to deploy over ON an adapted optimistic replication algorithm based on operational transformation approach and used for supporting collaborative editing works. Due to data replication and the unpredictable arrival order of user updates, the preservation of data convergence is crucially required in CE. Accordingly, we evaluate the effectiveness of the most significant ON routing protocols, PRoPHET and Epidemic, to achieve convergence by observing the behavior of our testbed algorithm through simulations. Our preliminary results indicate that combining CE and ON is not without price. Indeed, the data convergence may be delayed according to the flow of exchanged updates and the size of the group of mobile users.","PeriodicalId":129665,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology and Accessibility (ICTA)","volume":"258 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120890177","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
