Μethadone maintenance treatment (MMT) is one of the most common therapeutic approaches.\u0000Aim: To investigate the factors that affect drug dependent people’s subjective Quality of Life (QOL) under MMT.\u0000Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted in a convenience sample of 209 drug dependent people under MMT provided by a substitution treatment unit (OKANA). They completed a questionnaire that included: a) demographic/occupational characteristics, b) the Short Form 12-Item Health Survey questionnaire (SF-12) and c) the Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R). Data analysis was carried out using the statistical package SPSS 24.0.\u0000Results: Mean scores for the physical (PCS) and the mental (MCS) subscale of SF-12 were 47.4(±8.8) and 38.6(±9.2) respectively, displaying lower level of drug dependent people’ QOL. High mean scores of the nine symptomatic dimensions and the three global indices of the SCL-90-R demonstrate existence between addiction and psychiatric disorder. Prolonged time period over two years under MMT was associated with deterioration in their QOL. Drug dependent people with the longest stay under MMT had higher scores in the subscales of somatization (p =0.051), the obsessive-compulsive disorder (p =0.013), the Global Severity Index (p=0.041) and the Positive Symptoms Total (p=0.033). Findings indicate that female sex, the age of initiation of drugs (younger age) and previous\u0000Conclusions: In line with drug dependent people’s subjective QOL, prolonged time under MMT was associated with poor QOL. Therefore, changing MMT program’s philosophy is essential to cover drug dependent people’s further psychosocial needs.

It begins with the permanent cessation of menstruation and is a period of transition and adaptation to a new condition characterized by lack of estrogen and loss of reproductive capacity of the woman. The transition to this new reality is accompanied by a series of biological and psychosocial changes with a variety of physical and emotional symptoms. As every woman is different, so the experience of menopause varies. According to the literature, although the emergence of symptoms is a global phenomenon, women from different cultural backgrounds report different symptoms. The same applies to perceptions about the meaning of menopause. The aim of the present paper was to investigate, through recent literature data, these different perceptions and symptoms that women of different cultures attribute to menopause. The review showed important differences between women of different countries but also between women living in the same country.

The lack of donors throughout the world, leads to the need of a survey of the factors affecting the formation of the human behavior in order to change it, in particular in our country, where there is a significant research gap and a reduced number of donors.\u0000Aim: The aim of the specific quantitative survey is the detection of the factors affecting the attitude and perceptions of the nursing and medical staff of the General Hospital (G.H.) of Edessa, with regards to organ donation, as well as the prediction of their willingness to issue an organ donor card.\u0000Methods: The survey was based on the collection of 283 questionnaires, based on the Theory of Planned Behavior. In order to enhance the representation amongst people, data were weighted so that both doctors and nurses could have equal rates to such of the population.\u0000Results: The intention to discuss with the family was positively associated with moral rules, while the intention to issue a donor card was positively associated with morality and subjective perception of control. Gender, profession, educational level and previous relevant behavior are the most important factors of differentiation.\u0000Conclusions: The medical and nursing staff of the G.H. of Edessa presents a low intention to issue a donation card, however, they are very positive to the idea of donation. The attitude and intention of the medical doctors is more positive comparison to the nursing. The professional status is the most important variable under study, as it differentiates attitudes and intentions of health care workers. It is necessary to promote the idea of donation through social services.

Several researchers and studies dealing with violence in the working environment towards health professionals shows the extent of the problem. This phenomenon is more pronounced in the emergency departments (EDs) where violence is an inevitable part of professional life. Healthcare professionals are at higher risk than administrative staff. Especially for ED workers, violence in the working environment can lead to burnout. The causes vary, starting with the excessive waiting time due to lack of staff and ending up in the inadequate policy that most hospitals have for violence in the working environment. The phenomenon of workplace violence undermines the care and safety of patients, while nursing staff in order to fulfill their difficult tasks need a safe environment. Workload, lack of staff and unfulfilled expectations of patients and escorts are not consistent with the proper patients nursing management.

The aim of this review paper is to present the nurse’s role in the care of Primary Cutaneous Lymphomas, both as member of a multidisciplinary team, as well as an independent healthcare professional in the diagnosis, treatment, support of patients’ and in the management of the adverse complications. A review of the publications in Greek medical journals, nursing books, electronic databases of scientific societies and in pubmed and google scholar database, for the period from 2004 to 2018. From the papers found 53 were used. The nursing role is crucial, both in the initial diagnosis of the disease, as well as in the progress and treatment. The nurse’s role as a member of the multiprofessional team is emphafized, especially as nurse navigator. At the same time, the potential problems during treatment and the nursing interventions are presented. In conclusion, it is stated that a nurse can help solve many problems related to the understanding of symptoms and the course of the disease, but also be a supportive person for the patient and his/her caregiver. At the same time, the nurse is presented as a useful guide with the complexity of healthcare system.

The information transfer to all stages of health structures is often inadequate with many variations, especially at the critical stage after discharge from the hospital, in which patients are usually more vulnerable. The major problem of the lack of interconnection between healthcare services occurs mainly among the elderly, the chronically ill and those who take a lot medication. The main effects of this problem are medication side effects, treatment overlap, poor quality of healthcare and financial costs. Enhancing communication, through the electronic interface and the use of the Personal Electronic Health Folder (P.E.H.F.), which will include the individual details of each patient and information about his clinical status, is aiming at the use of best practices for patient recovery by healthcare providers. The thorough literature review, the strategic analysis PESTEL and the control process, pointed out the need to use the P.E.H.F., to achieve substantial improvements in the quality of patient healthcare. With the practical use of P.E.H.F., the healthcare of all patients will be unquestionably, safe, effective, patient-centered, immediate and fair.

Evaluating both patients’ experiences and outcomes from the care provided is necessary for ensuring high quality in health care.\u0000\u0000Aim: The investigation of patient reported experiences in Intensive Care Units and the evaluation of their health related quality of life six to twelve months after discharge.\u0000\u0000Methods: It is a non-interventional cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection. The participants were 108 patients, discharged from four Intensive Care Units of three military hospitals in Athens. Telephone interviews were conducted using “Patient Empowerment Questionnaire” and “Quality of life Questionnaire” to evaluate patients’ experiences and health related quality of life respectively. Statistical analysis was conducted using the statistical package SPSS v.25.0.\u0000\u0000Results: The majority of the study population reported positive experiences with the critical care staff and normal quality of life after discharge. However, 47% reported that they could not always sleep at night and 32% did not always receive adequate pain relief. In regards to patients’ quality of life, “normal daily activities” were affected the most. Specifically, half of the patients reported inability to carry out activities requiring high level of physical effort and 1/5 expressed difficulties in walking and in mobility. Additionally, 43% reported difficulties in the job or their daily activities, have changed or completely abandoned them.\u0000\u0000Conclusions: The patients’ positive experiences and good health related quality of life after discharge gave the impression that quality of intensive care in Greek military hospitals is high. Interventions intending to achieve more adequate pain relief, better sleep at night, and prevention of critical illness’ negative impact on day-to-day activities would ensure more positive results.

Ten parents (females) were healthcare professionals (nurses and health visitors) and ten (2 males and 8 females) were not healthcare professionals. Interview data were analyzed using the thematic analysis technique.\u0000\u0000Results: Results show that parents were concerned about vaccination safety, side effects of the vaccines, lifelong coverage of children, immune system overload, commercial purposes of vaccines and validity of information about vaccination. Comparisons between parents who were healthcare professionals and parents who had a different profession showed that the latter were more hesitant and had more misconceptions about vaccines.\u0000\u0000Conclusions: The decision to vaccinate children or not is a huge responsibility towards every child, but also towards society. During the COVID-19 pandemic a significant reduction in ED overcrowding was observed, as many relative urgent cases, usually at lower risk reduced their visits to the ED, in fear of a possible infection. Several healthcare systems abroad have tried to tackle with the problem, establishing or redesigning Primary Health Care (PHC) centers, both rural and urban, which would manage both low-risk emergencies of the general population, but also the routine care of patients with chronic diseases.\u0000\u0000The purpose of this article was twofold and included on the one hand the presentation of the characteristics such PHC centers treating low risk emergencies and on the other hand the preparation of a transferability plan for these centers in the PHC of the Greek healthcare system. For the study of the transferability we used a new methodology, which includes and assesses a number of criteria that should be considered to facilitate of effective health interventions from a primary context to a specific target context.\u0000\u0000The researchers identified obstacles, but also opportunities for the transferability of PHC centers that should be established to manage low-risk emergencies in the Greek healthcare system.
