In some works, they serve as a deco- rative background for narrative scenes, while in others they become integral parts of them. This article demonstrates that, despite the strong attachment of the Sienese artists of the Quattrocento era to the medieval tradition, it is in the predella polyptychs of the 15th century that innovations in the field of depicting architectural structures are adopted. Through the examination of a number of scenes from the predella of the sienese polyptychs, it became obvious that it was in the architectura picta that artists had greater freedom and depicted architec- tural innovations that had not yet been reflected in actual Sienese architecture. There are many predella fragments depicting architectural structures, but they have not been fully documented. The brief excursion reported in this study aims to review the most representative samples, organize them chronologically and analyze their evolution through almost the entire 15th century.","PeriodicalId":124543,"journal":{"name":"RSUH/RGGU Bulletin. \"Literary Theory. The author studies in detail all the sources of the turn of the 14th–15th centuries, which retold rumors that the Duchess was a witch who brought a spell on the French king, and disputes the point of view prevailing in historiography, according to which the creator of that “black legend” was one and the only person – the Hennegau chronicler Jean Froissart. According to the author of the article, rumors about Valentina Visconti arose much earlier than Froissart took up the compilation of his “Chronicles”, they were initially oral in nature and were primarily associated with the political propaganda of the Dukes of Burgundy, who were trying to gain full power in the French Kingdom","PeriodicalId":124543,"journal":{"name":"RSUH/RGGU Bulletin. \"Literary Theory. Turgenev in the story “The Revival” by Julian Barnes. The aim of the work is to reveal the characteristics and the role of Turgenev’s image in the story “The Revival”. The chosen topic of the study is relevant due to the undying interest to the English writer‘s work in Russian literary studies. The personality and the work of Turgenev made an important impact on the Barnes’s wordview and his texts. In “The Revival” the author is focused on the artistic image of the Turgenev’s last love with the theatre actress Mariya Savina. Drawing on areal event from the life of Turgenev, Barnes creates his own perception of what was happening by using the literary techniques of fabulation, fragmentation and irony. British writer involves a reader into a specific game. A reader can hardly decide which facts are truth, about the Russian writer’s last love, when it is additionally complicated with the fragmentary images of what was happening between Turgenev and the actress, and illustrated by the letters of Russian writer filled in with frequent shifts between the episodes, showing the unreliability of the memory. The comprehension of the personality and the work of Russian writer is connected with the leading themes in the work of Barnes such as ageing, death and love.","PeriodicalId":124543,"journal":{"name":"RSUH/RGGU Bulletin. \"Literary Theory. The phrases found in the corpus of texts under consideration (which comprised more than three author’s sheets) with those words represent the semantic core of the concept “dream” and the corresponding fragment of the journalistic picture of the world – to the extent that this fragment was presented in the publications of 2019–2021 of the media selected for research. The journalistic picture of the world is understood by the author of the article as a kind of functional-style picture of the world, i.e. as a communicatively conditioned version of the linguistic picture of the world, which, fixing the specifics in the life of the people, stores information about the world and is “a vivid reflection of the character and worldview of the people” [Bulygina, Shmelev 1997, p. 481]. The journalistic picture of the world created by the mass media influences the conceptual picture of the world of their addressees, including the semantic content and hierarchy of culturally significant concepts. Thus, studying the syntagmatic connections of the words “to dream”, “dream”, “dreaming” in the publications of “Lenta.ru”, we identify modern ideas about the semantic core of the concept “dream”, which are fixed in the journalistic picture of the world of the media under consideration and broadcast to the audience of the publication.","PeriodicalId":124543,"journal":{"name":"RSUH/RGGU Bulletin. \"Literary Theory. The European linguistic tradition singled this category out from its beginning. Some European and American grammars of Japanese recognized the grammatical category of person (B.Y. Chamberlain, A. Rose-Inness, T. Navron-Voytinskaya). However the categories of etiquette (politeness) are mixed with person. Japanese has the developed system of the designation of social attitudes between the speaker and other persons (interlocutors or objects of speech). The cause of the confusion is the influence of the grammatical system of the European languages on the investigators. However the opposition of the forms of 1st person and 2nd person exists in the imperative, and such forms are numerous: kake ‘write!’ (rude), o-kaki kudasai ‘write!’ (polite), kakoo ‘let us write’. The opposition of personal pronouns of all the persons exist too although they are not very common in Japanese.","PeriodicalId":124543,"journal":{"name":"RSUH/RGGU Bulletin. \"Literary Theory. Karavashkin made a great contribution to the study of the history and culture of Moscow Russia, the narrative of Ivan Peresvetov, Ivan the Terrible, Andrei Kurbsky. The article analyzes the cognitive basis of the semantic development of verbs initially denoting the action to take up, a pattern assumed to be common for several languages and thus of particular significance for lexical and semantic typology. The structure of the chain reflects the idea of the distance between the relocated object and its original location gradually becoming greater, on the basis of which the meanings to take off and to take away are acquired. The final links of the chain (the meanings to destroy and to abolish) represent the ultimate realization of removal. The mechanism of meaning acquisition is assumed to differ between the shifts in the chain since three of the four derivative meanings are metonymical, while the meaning to abolish is of metaphorical nature.","PeriodicalId":124543,"journal":{"name":"RSUH/RGGU Bulletin. \"Literary Theory. However, its configuration and individual elements cause associative comparisons with the unresolved “P” and, as it were, prompt the putting forward of new hypotheses about the methods of its solution; maximum activation of the associative impressions that have arisen, their decoding, study, comparison, analysis, identification of connections between them and with “P”; connection of inductive thinking in order to check and streamline the resulting associative versions of the ways to solve “P”; the process of developing a clear verbal formulation of the results of inductive thinking; sudden insight – finding the best way to solve a problem. This far from complete picture of the mechanism of associative generation of correct insight suggests that insight is not at all a generous “gift” of the information field of the Earth or other mysterious forces of nature. Most likely, it is a concentrated fruit of the researcher’s own reflections on the problem, over the solution of which his convolutions “fought” for a long time, which, having reached an emergent state, were transformed into a ready-made solution recipe. The problem under consideration. In other words, the knowledge accumulated by the researcher at a certain stage moves to a qualitatively different level, which, in turn, gives rise to fundamentally new cognitive abilities in him, due to which sometimes (this already depends on the genes) his “Ego” (from the subconscious mind) starts the process enlightenment, the trigger of which is the problem, on the solution of which he is working.","PeriodicalId":124543,"journal":{"name":"RSUH/RGGU Bulletin. \"Literary Theory.
