The first one especially at present time is the shifting of customers' demands from bigger cars to more fuel efficient ones. The second one is a long term shift in the customer order decoupling point - maybe initialized by the PC industry (like Dell in the 90's) - enabling the configuration of the car individually. Therefore, the automotive industry has to address a paradigm shift from Make-to-Stock (MTS) towards Assemble-to-Order (ATO) and further Make-to-Order (MTO). Mainly caused by cost saving programmes manufacturing of components is continuously outsourced to suppliers. These suppliers are categorized in tiers and in total about 80% of the components of a car model are manufactured by suppliers. This paper introduces three remedies as CDCP (Collaborative Demand Capacity Planning), EC/EI (Enterprise Collaboration / Enterprise Interoperability ) Services and Serious Gaming. A combination of these three remedies should mitigate the above mentioned challenges of the automotive industry. Further more the potential of providing EC/EI services as SaaS (Software as a Service) utilities will be considered.","PeriodicalId":124214,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124709196","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The internet's new role as participatory medium and its ubiquity leads to dense tri-sortal communities of humans and businesses mixed with computer systems, and semantically interoperating in a well-defined sense. Many of the challenges and ongoing (r)evolutions appear to produce as yet seemingly contradictory requirements and thus produce potentially very interesting research areas. In this paper we argue that linguistics, real world semantics and pragmatics, scalability, the tri-sortal nature of the communities involved, the balance between usability and reusability, and the methodological requirements for nondisruptive adoption by enterprises of the new technologies provide vectors for fundamental computer science research, for interesting new artifacts, and for new valorizations of enterprise interoperability. We also try to argue the point for increased multidisciplinary research projects in order to tackle the issues involved.","PeriodicalId":124214,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132336992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methodological support is low for this `fuzzy front-end' of the innovation process. This paper shows how the analysis of idea generation methods leads to the concept of a disruptive idea generation game which can be used to stimulate the creativity of participants in the innovation process. The basic concept of the game is to disrupt traditional idea generation methods like brainstorming by a radical change of the overall perspective. This change is accomplished by introducing to the participants the fact that another enterprise has taken over the own company and current products and services need to fit within that new portfolio.","PeriodicalId":124214,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"117 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131988782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Maintaining the competitiveness can appear a chess game in which western countries have to strategically find the appropriate solutions. Dorothy is a research project funded by the European Commission within the 7th Framework Programme under the NMP theme. It promotes a response based on the transformation of shoe industry and related business model meant to strengthen Europe's ability to compete in terms of high added value for the customer. This foreseen transformation deals with the development of tools for the design of customer driven adding value shoes and with the realization of tools for the design and reconfiguration of flexible multi-site and multi-nation production plants. Since the customer is the centre of the innovation process based on new technological approaches, this paper analyses the customer approach to the customized product and in particular impact of the Augmented Reality (AR). The Magic Mirror uses the AR (mixed of real and virtual images) for allowing the user to try-on a pair of virtual customized shoes. This new trial step implies a new purchasing path and a different approach with the product. This paper presents the Magic Mirror case study and a research made with a new questionnaire called “Flow for Presence Questionnaire” measuring the state of the user during the trial.","PeriodicalId":124214,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126971203","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper introduces the notion of semi-formal modelling of the collaboration processes in order to define the collections of activities, roles and behaviours that support critical organisational functions in achieving a joint objective. It also emphasizes that formal modelling techniques (UML, ARIS, BPMN etc) are not perfectly suited for describing collaboration processes, because they lack the most appropriate and simple notations for representing the coordination behaviours of multiple actors participating in collaborative work, and offer no meaningful support for expressing responsibilities in collaboration context with respect to formality, simplicity and expressiveness or resulting complexity. A support environment, called Operational Design Tool (ODT), is presented in this paper, which enables the user to easily create, adapt, change and publish process diagrams within turbulent environments using easy-to-use modelling notations.","PeriodicalId":124214,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117291698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It serves as a platform for collaboration among many stakeholders, being it firms, public agencies, universities, institutes or customers, to create, validate and test new services, products and theories in real-life contexts. Among this complex network, links between research community and companies represent a specific type. This paper presents an online instrument to enact the collaborative relationships between research community and companies. This instrument is more than an online survey instrument, but a combination of online survey instrument and online consultant instrument. As an illustration, studies in the area of knowledge worker productivity assessment carried out through this instrument will be given in this paper to better understand its distinguishing features. In the end, we argue that fast feedback loop and instant communications between researchers and stakeholders maintain contributions both to theory building in terms of researchers, and on the other hand to practice guidance in terms of companies.","PeriodicalId":124214,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134271555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Netherlands wants to be in the top 5 of most competitive economies worldwide by being more innovative. However, its innovativeness is not increasing according to several international studies. 15 acclaimed Dutch innovation-experts identify 7 reasons that explain the lack of innovativeness, e.g. low absorption of academic knowledge, limited adoption of ICT, and a preference for cost cutting instead of innovation. To break out of this situation, actions on various societal levels are proposed, e.g. establishing a separate Ministry of Innovation, taking the Dutch `Polder-model' to the next level by no longer focusing on how to divide economical and societal burdens, but on how to collectively develop solutions for them, and supporting innovation processes in organizations head to tail and accepting that the outcomes are not known upfront.","PeriodicalId":124214,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE)","volume":"122 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133122519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However the focus has been on intra enterprise solutions. Innovative and internet based solutions are needed to promote project management, especially for distributed organizations, not so well covered by existing solutions. Large scale engineering projects are typical examples of distributed projects. The COIN project has identified requirements for development in the area of Collaborative Project Management. Future success in large engineering projects builds on the combination of two paradigms; fully automated and IT supported engineering process and totally networked and efficient global operation.
