Initial results of evaluation conducted along with their implementation are presented here regarding the referral process from the inpatient setting. In order to successfully establish the pilot projects, experience and perspectives of referring physicians to the outreach treatment were explored. Three semi-structured focus group interviews were conducted.Qualitative content analysis according to Mayring identified five topics: (1) registration procedure, (2) differentiation from existing care options in the region, (3) patients' experiences with the services, (4) indication for treatment and (5) expectations of the referring physicians regarding the outreach treatment. Referring physicians rated the outreach treatment as helpful and effective. As soon as patients came into contact with the assertive community treatment, they reported positive experiences to the referring physicians. There was a desire for more flexible registration times so that admission would also be possible after discharge from the hospital. Furthermore, more information could be helpful for a systematised assessment of indications and for distinguishing the new treatment options from existing services.The newly implemented outreach services at UPK Basel are viewed positively by referring physicians. These services can close a treatment gap between inpatient and outpatient care and address the individual needs of patients. While referring physicians report positive experiences, further research is needed, in particular, to gain a better understanding of the patients' perspectives.</p>","PeriodicalId":12353,"journal":{"name":"Fortschritte Der Neurologie Psychiatrie","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2025-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144283178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Psychiatric patients appear to be particularly affected by the pandemic and the lockdown measures in Germany. There is limited knowledge about the impact on psychiatric emergencies in emergency departments (EDs) from the onset of the pandemic until the initial relaxations in 2022. This study investigates the impact on psychiatric emergencies in an interdisciplinary ED during the various phases of the pandemic.A retrospective analysis was conducted of all psychiatric emergency contacts in an interdisciplinary ED of a general hospital in a German metropolitan city. The study period covered from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2022. Significant changes in case numbers were observed depending on the different phases of the pandemic. Neurotic, stress-related, and somatoform disorders (ICD-10 F4) showed the most substantial and significant decrease in case numbers until 2021 among all primary diagnoses. The admission rate significantly increased in 2021 and declined the following year.The different phases of the pandemic had significant impacts on psychiatric emergency patients in an ED, particularly the altered diagnostic spectrum, leading to changed demands. The increased admission rate can be interpreted as an indicator of worsening psychopathological severity. The results of this study indicate that access to the healthcare system for psychiatric patients must be ensured and considered in health policy decisions, even during a pandemic.</p>","PeriodicalId":12353,"journal":{"name":"Fortschritte Der Neurologie Psychiatrie","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2025-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144224842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, the question of the effectiveness of treatment as a whole has been the focus of numerous studies. Less frequently, however, research has addressed the evidence base of therapeutic interventions and efficacy factors. Since this article takes a non-systematic look into the current state of knowledge on specific interventions and factors that play a role in the effective treatment of addicted offenders, the question of what exactly works can only be answered in a rudimentary way. The concept of Therapeutic Community appears to be largely empirically supported. Based on such evidence as is currently available, motivational interviewing and dialectical-behavioral therapy can be considered the most promising forms of therapy. The effectiveness of forensic addiction treatment lies possibly less in the application of individual approaches than in questions of the setting and the attitude of those providing treatment.</p>","PeriodicalId":12353,"journal":{"name":"Fortschritte Der Neurologie Psychiatrie","volume":" ","pages":"230-237"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2025-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"10053745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
