The diagnostic system is based on a turn-by-turn data acquisition system which records beam position information from individual bunches in CESR, as well as RF system diagnostic signals. An accompanying display and analysis package has been developed to aid in diagnosing the causes of beamloss events. Examples of beamloss mechanisms are described.","PeriodicalId":122662,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1997 Particle Accelerator Conference (Cat. Although some depolarization at intrinsic resonances are expected, the level of the depolarization does not agree with a simple model calculation. A spin tracking program is then used to simulate the real polarized proton beam in the AGS. The results show that, due to the linear coupling introduced by a solenoidal 5% partial snake, the polarized beam will be partially depolarized also at the so-called coupling resonance, which is related to the horizontal betatron tune. The synchrotron oscillation also affect the beam polarization to a smaller extent.","PeriodicalId":122662,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1997 Particle Accelerator Conference (Cat. Each cavity is equipped with four waveguide ports to extract HOM power. In order to achieve the very low HOM impedance required for the damping ring, each waveguide port should be terminated by a broadband, low-reflection load. We have developed a broadband HOM load for this purpose. We describe the design, construction and RF characteristics of the HOM load.","PeriodicalId":122662,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1997 Particle Accelerator Conference (Cat. The basic cyclotron structure is the same as that developed in a previous study of a 250 MeV cancer therapy cyclotron, the chief difference in the study reported here being much higher beam current (x10,000) than in the therapy cyclotron to meet desired specifications for the 'Driver' accelerator of an ISOL type radioactive beam facility. The increase in current is far below (x1/50) the axial space charge limit of the proposed cyclotron, but longitudinal space charge requires changing the extraction system from a single turn to a multi-turn system thereby increasing beam losses. Leading design uncertainties, namely the overall efficiency of the multi-turn extraction system and the distribution of radioactivity generated by lost beam are addressed herein; results indicate reasonable residual activity in the cyclotron from the perspective of customary 'hands-on' maintenance operations.","PeriodicalId":122662,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1997 Particle Accelerator Conference (Cat.
