The model is based on Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and is verified and validated by Spearman correlation technique. The indicators are categorized as telephone network size, other services, quality of service, traffic, tariffs, staff, demography, economy, information technology, broadcasting and mobile services. To present the applicability of the approach, data for the year 2003 of 27 developed and developing countries are used. A total of 9 indicators are considered, out of which 4 are inputs and 6 are outputs respectively. The results show weak and strong points of each sector and identifies the most efficient inputs or outputs which can aid management in overall assessment and optimization. This is the first study that presents an integrated multivariate approach for total assessment and improvement of the telecommunication sectors.","PeriodicalId":120426,"journal":{"name":"2006 4th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125585132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The automated method is based on statistical modelling of sensor behavior. A model of a sensor's value sequences is automatically constructed. The model's structure and parameters are optimized using an mini-batch model merging and parameter updating algorithm. Incoming sensor values are then conveyed to the model and the most probable path through the model to some particular state is computed. That classification can be interpreted as a semantic symbol or concept. The SCRS can be used as a security and care system for observation of persons and interpretation of scenarios. An example modelling a motion detector is discussed.","PeriodicalId":120426,"journal":{"name":"2006 4th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126920803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kumar","doi":"10.1109/INDIN.2006.275783","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/INDIN.2006.275783","url":null,"abstract":"The paper discusses the complexities of the air cargo loading problem and provides an effective approach based on the proposed heuristic to tackle the problem. The primitive class of problems like general bin packing, cutting stock and knapsack problems can be taken as the basic step towards the air-cargo loading problem. The discussed problem is very different in its nature in respect to the general pallet, container or truck loading problem. Generally, the container loading problems consider only the rectangular type of containers to load the items whereas in case of air-cargos, the shape of containers are very different such as irregular pentagon, hexagon etc. Apart from this, the objective of air cargo loading problem discussed in this paper is based on the minimization of the shipping cost of the container keeping in mind the number of constraints involved in loading. In past research literatures, most of the container loading problems are aimed to pack the container in such a way so that either the number of containers is minimized or the volume of the packed items are maximized. In this paper the objective function includes the shipment cost as the primary goal and the volume and weight of the containers are taken as constraints. A very interesting finding can be noticed in this paper which states that even if the container's volume is properly utilized the cost of shipment may be increased. The dimensions, volume and weight of the cargo boxes and containers along with the pivot weight, pivot cost and due date are some of the important criteria in calculating the logistics cost. Real time data has been taken to validate the proposed approach and show its superiority over the existing approaches.","PeriodicalId":120426,"journal":{"name":"2006 4th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126497540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the help of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology and the electronic product code (EPC) standards, the services for apparel supply chain will be able to provide data or information about products along different stages of this supply chain. All parts of the apparel supply chain including manufacturers, distributors and retailers will be able to have instant access to information about an individual product at any time. The wide adoption of RFID across the supply chain will bring significant benefits leading to reduced operational costs and hence increase profit. This article mainly concerns on the flow of information by means of data throughout the apparel supply chain and relationship between each of its member in supply chain; entity relation diagram (ERD) is also used to make more understandable of this relationship. Each member or organization represents an entity and relation among each is shown by indicating lines. Furthermore, a preliminary description of an infrastructure for data flows is also outlined for our further research work.","PeriodicalId":120426,"journal":{"name":"2006 4th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116137474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Product design task management is an important feature of design frameworks. A proper design task management solution can definitely increase the design process efficiency. This paper presents an integrated approach for managing design tasks, designer capacities, task execution and monitoring in product development lifecycles. In the proposed approach, design tasks are associated directly with product design data. Each designer's capacity is synchronized and updated automatically during design task creation and assignment. Design tasks are routed to assigned designers, and task execution, progress and effort spent by designers can be automatically monitored, controlled and tracked. The proposed design task management approach can be seamlessly integrated with the upstream and downstream activities of a product lifecycle in terms of its processes and information needs, leveraging on workflow/lifecycle technology. Developed as part of an enterprise system and implemented in the design department of a local mould making company, it has shown that the proposed approach can significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of design task management, and thereby facilitating the design process in the company.","PeriodicalId":120426,"journal":{"name":"2006 4th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121390455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sustainability in this context requires that DER significantly support system services like frequency control, power balance, voltage control or supply restoration after failures. For this, remote information exchange with the respective DER units will become necessary. Consequently, interoperable and scaleable communication solutions play a key role for sustainability in power systems with an increasing share of DER The \"network for energy and communication\" (NEaC) which was founded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, is a consortium that elaborates requirements, specifications, systems, standards and related technologies for inter-networked DERs. A communication network with diverse physical communication media is considered for a typical medium/low voltage network with industrial, commercial, rural and household customers each with typical load profiles. A variety of DER units like wind power plants, fuel cells, photovoltaic plants or CHP units is considered. It is demonstrated how an optimized communication network, complying with technical and economical requirements, can be realized. In this paper a new approach for a general architecture of behavior for mobile robots and automation systems is presented. Based on the psychoanalytic model of the human mind, emotional evaluation mechanisms shall facilitate a fast estimation of complex and unpredictable situations based on environmental data acquired by the sensors of the robot. Emotional intelligence is used to narrow the focus of attention leading to a reduction of the computational load, and to improve the cooperative behavior among the robots. In order to show the advantages of the emotional arbitration architecture, the model has been tested in simulations based on the characteristics of an existing mobile robot.","PeriodicalId":120426,"journal":{"name":"2006 4th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127574685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
