Against this background, the study examines the role of man in environmental degradation in South East Nigeria between 1990 and 2022. This research, by its nature, adopted the qualitative research methodology because it cannot be subjected to quantitative analysis. The research findings showed that there were several environmental degradation challenges facing South East Nigeria, including soil erosion, land and water pollution, solid waste disposal and air pollution. These were caused mainly by human factors, especially technology and industrialization. The work argued that the South East people had a healthy relationship with the natural environment before the advent of British colonial rule. This relationship changed as a result of colonialism and its attendant effects in the area. Thus environmental problems in South East Nigeria developed over time as human socio-economic relations changed in global context.","PeriodicalId":120234,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Research and Multidisciplinary Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140667295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study examines these issues. Content analysis was used whereby five (5) projects of undergraduate and postgraduate students were analysed to identify errors in hypothesis writing and testing. The study findings revealed that there are common errors such as inadequate representation of specific variables of the project topics and wrong use of statistical tools in testing hypotheses. The study recommended that students should spend ample time reading literature on research and hypothesis formulation and testing. In addition, supervisors should have adequate knowledge of formulating and testing hypotheses so as to guide those they supervise in following the acceptable principles in the field of social and management sciences.","PeriodicalId":120234,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Research and Multidisciplinary Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140678872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objectives of the study were to find out the dominant frames and sources of news frames used in reporting civilian JTF's involvement in fighting terrorism as well as the interpretations that media frames gave on the issue. Using framing theory, the work undertook a content analysis and Critical Discourse Analysis (involving textual analysis) of four national newspapers: Vanguard, Punch, Daily Trust and Leadership. These newspapers were chosen because they have national spread and are regularly published over a period of time. Using simple random sampling, the study sampled a total of 432 issues of the selected newspapers and found that the reports from the selected newspapers on the involvement and operations of civilian JTF in combating terrorism in Nigeria were frequent. Out of the 432 issues of the selected newspapers, 309 (71.5%) issues were on the topic under study. It also found that the newspapers did not give prominence to the issue under investigation as the majority (68.2%) of the news items were hidden in inside pages. In addition, it was also found that the newspaper emphasized the military/government frame. Findings from the textual analysis revealed that the sampled newspapers all gave different manners of approach in their interpretation of the involvement of the Civilian JTF in the fight against terrorism, which resulted in emerging thematic frames such as: Victory frame, Fear frame, Relief frame and Strategy frame. Therefore, the work recommended that Nigerian newspapers should not only increase their reportage of governments/civilian efforts at combating terrorism but also place news items on terrorism prominently. It equally suggested that the press should improve their investigative reporting so as to help the government and civilian efforts in combating terrorism.","PeriodicalId":120234,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Research and Multidisciplinary Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140747335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

BVAS was designed as a game changer since it could identify, authenticate, and validate prospective voters to ensure free, fair, and credible elections in the country. However, the outcome of elections nationwide and the pending litigations on election fraud and integrity are contemporary discourses among scholars and citizens. Therefore, this study examines the impact of the bimodal voters’ accreditation system on election integrity in Nasarawa State, Nigeria with a specific focus on the 2023 general election. This study adopted a descriptive research design, primary data were collected through a self-structured questionnaire and interview guide to elicit information from the respondents. The study utilised technology theory as the theoretical framework for the study. Multi-stage sampling techniques were used to select a sample size of ninety (90) respondents for questionnaire administration. The findings of the study revealed that the bimodal voters' accreditation system has eradicated overvoting/double voting, increased public participation in the electoral process, enhanced the public level of trust and confidence in the electoral process and improved electoral transparency and integrity in the study area. The study concluded that though the bimodal accreditation system has helped improve the electoral system, however, there is a need to improve its effectiveness to prevent loopholes. The study recommends among others, the need for the autonomy of electoral umpires to prevent political meddling.","PeriodicalId":120234,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Research and Multidisciplinary Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140444449","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The complication of diverse faith, beliefs, traditions, culture, language and mainly the threat of religious fundamentalism and extremism, thus brought about many ugly flashpoints and situations in many areas across Nigeria. This study seeks to unearth the significance and need for commitment of the various stakeholders towards addressing the challenges occasioned by this plurality of religious faiths in terms of the efforts required from religious organizations, traditional institutions, government and non-governmental organizations including Christian organizations and Muslim groups. Since religion plays a great role in the politics, social and security of lives of Nigerians as a nation, there can therefore be no sustainable peace among people of this great nation without constant dialogue among them, hence the necessity for this study. This work employed the use of primary and secondary sources in gathering of information. The paper identified a lot of challenges and issues bothering on intolerance, existing conflict of interest, injustice, inequity, superiority of one religious group over the other, while advocating for the removal of entrenched misconceptions and hatred. The paper encouraged for more understanding, mutuality and peaceful co-existence.","PeriodicalId":120234,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Research and Multidisciplinary Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139616468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The small and medium scale enterprises can be employed as a mechanism or internal strategy to salvage the alarming growth rates of unemployment in our society. But it is impossible for the SMEs to do this more effectively and efficiently due to some critical factors affecting the corporate performance of the small and medium scale enterprises in the system. The low corporate performance of SMEs is attributed to some critical factors or bottlenecks such as difficulty in accessing micro-finances, inadequate management, and lack of experience, market competition, and many other problems. Therefore, this study examined critical factors responsible for low corporate performance of SMEs in Cross River State. Survey design was used in this study. The population of the study was six hundred and fifty-three (653) of small and medium scale enterprises in the area. The sample size was 248 using Taro Yamane formula. The hypotheses formulated were tested using Simple Linear Regression Analysis Model using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS Version 20). The study revealed that different obstacles such as inadequate funding and poor capital outlay; lack of easy access to funding/credit facilities; lack of infrastructural facilities; poor management expertise, etc. do significantly affect the corporate performance and growth as well as development of small and medium scale enterprises in Cross River State. It also revealed that the level of corporate performance (productivity) of small and medium scale enterprises significantly affect the growth and development of the area. It was recommended that the operators, owners and management should take a concerted effort in considering the various factors/problems associated and encountered by small and medium scale enterprises and profound possible solutions to it, in order to enhance the growth and corporate performance of SMEs in Cross River State. The government should also establish a well-equipped entrepreneurial programmes and provide funds/grants for small and medium scale enterprises operators in order to boost the economic development of the state.","PeriodicalId":120234,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Research and Multidisciplinary Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139448714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the widespread use of social media among the youth, platforms like TikTok have emerged as potential sources of information, creating new opportunities for disseminating knowledge on sensitive topics, such as sexual health and contraception. The main objectives of the study was to evaluate how exposure to contraceptive-related contents on TikTok influence female undergraduates’ awareness and responsible use of contraceptives among COOU female students. The study adopted the uses and gratifications theory in carrying out the study. The survey research method was adopted with a sample size of 400 drawn using Taro Yaame’s formula from a population of 12,552. A structured survey questionnaire is employed to collect data from a representative sample of COOU female students, assessing their knowledge and understanding of contraceptives before and after exposure to contraceptive-related content on TikTok. Preliminary findings indicate that TikTok plays a significant role in increasing the awareness of contraceptive methods among COOU female students. The platform's engaging and informative content fosters an informal learning environment that facilitates discussions around sensitive topics, breaking down barriers and reducing stigmas associated with contraception. Moreover, TikTok's interactive nature allows for peer-to-peer communication, enabling students to share experiences and advice, leading to enhanced knowledge exchange and increased confidence in contraceptive decision-making. The research recommended that TikTok creators should ensure that the information shared on contraceptives is accurate and reliable and partner with experts to add credibility to the content.","PeriodicalId":120234,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Research and Multidisciplinary Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139152241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, mass media campaigns have emerged as powerful tools to raise awareness and promote sustainable practices among Nigerians. It is in the light of this that this study assessed the effectiveness of mass media campaigns in promoting environmental sustainability in Nigeria. The researchers embarked on this study with the intent of achieving four objectives, and based on the objectives of this study, four research questions were formulated to serve as a guide for this study. The researchers anchored this study on the Two –Step Flow Theory. Survey was adopted as the most suitable research design for this study, and data were collected through the use of questionnaire. Findings from this study show that mass media campaigns have had a significant impact on increasing public awareness of environmental issues in Nigeria. These campaigns have successfully communicated the urgency of protecting the environment and the consequences of unsustainable practices. Moreover, they have motivated citizens to take action, with many respondents reporting changes in their behaviour such as reducing waste, conserving energy, and supporting environmental initiatives. This study concludes by emphasizing the importance of continued investment in mass media campaigns for environmental sustainability in Nigeria. This study recommends tailoring campaigns to local context, leveraging new media platforms, and enhancing collaboration between government, civil society and the private sector to create a holistic and impactful approach to environmental education and advocacy.","PeriodicalId":120234,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Research and Multidisciplinary Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139149132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
