A quasi-experimental design is employed in this study. The population was the tenth grade students of a vocational school in Bandung. The sample was 30 students chosen through convenience sampling. The sample was divided into two groups: experimental and control groups. Each group was given a pre-test at the beginning and a post-test at the end of the treatment. The kind of speaking test was mini conversation test where the researcher gave the students topic, and gave them time to prepare talks, and then they performed it in front of the class. In this stage, the researcher assessed their speaking skill using the scoring rubric by Brown (2001) cited in Vidhiasi (2017). The result of pre-test score showed that there was no significant difference between two classes. Then, the result of analyzing gained score, generated from the difference between pre- and post-test, revealed that the score of experimental class was significantly higher than controlled class at significance level 0,05. It means that the use of video recorded speaking task was effective in improving students’ speaking skill.","PeriodicalId":118124,"journal":{"name":"JEPAL (Journal of English Pedagogy and Applied Linguistics)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140412962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many utterances are just the contents of the sufferer's thoughts. This analysis focuses on the characteristics of sentence production and speech disorders in individuals with Wernicke's aphasia. Individuals with Wernicke's aphasia suffer from a language disorder that affects their ability to communicate effectively. Their speech is typically fluent but nonsensical, and they may struggle to find the right words or understand what is being said to them. They may also make errors in their speech and be unaware of these mistakes, which can make communication even more challenging. Additionally, their sentence structure, grammar, and syntax can be compromised, leading to structurally deficient sentences. Limited use of functional words, the presence of neologisms, and perseveration contribute to the incoherence of their speech. Understanding these characteristics is crucial for developing targeted interventions to enhance communication for individuals with Wernicke's aphasia. The results of this research found that there are 7 types of sentence patterns, 5 types of sentences based on their function and structure, and 4 characteristics of speech disorders that appear in the utterances expressed by Byron.","PeriodicalId":118124,"journal":{"name":"JEPAL (Journal of English Pedagogy and Applied Linguistics)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140412813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study employed descriptive study design and a cross-sectional survey-based design. Two research tools were used, namely, questionnaires and interviews. The participants were 20 students at a private business high school (first grade) located in South Korea. The result of the study showed that students overwhelmingly expressed a positive attitude toward the use of Quick Response Codes (QR codes) in promoting student-centred learning. They perceived QR codes as effective tools for enhancing motivation, engagement, and accessibility to learning resources. The majority of students appreciated the autonomy and collaborative opportunities QR codes offer, contributing to increased participation and self-directed learning. Despite the challenges of varying motivation levels in group work and time constraints, students expressed a high agreement to continue using QR codes in future learning. This underscores the importance of teacher creativity and effective time management to maximize the positive impact of QR codes on student-centred learning. While the study acknowledges varied opinions, it underscores the significant role QR codes play in supporting a student-centric approach to learning.","PeriodicalId":118124,"journal":{"name":"JEPAL (Journal of English Pedagogy and Applied Linguistics)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140416205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study portrays the learning of EFL writing in online classrooms by delving into different modes that the teacher used. This study is carried out by employing a qualitative approach. The data were collected by using students’ reflective journals and semi-structured interviews. The participants of the study were 35 students of the twelfth grade and one English teacher. As the data from the students’ journal and the interview were categorized into broader themes, the teaching and learning activity was compatible with modes of online classrooms in Modes 1 and 2 which were low bandwidth-low immediacy and low bandwidth-high immediacy. This denotes low bandwith as the preferred mode used by the teacher, presumably due to the technical access and supports. Thus, English teachers can implement interesting media for teaching and learning depending on the availability of the learning sources by sticking to the availability of online learning modes. For the students, students can ask the teacher if they encounter difficulties in online classrooms.","PeriodicalId":118124,"journal":{"name":"JEPAL (Journal of English Pedagogy and Applied Linguistics)","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139350918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
