Sandhigata Vata is very common and most debilitating clinical condition of old age especially during 4 and 5 decade of life. It is mentioned under Vata Vyadhi in the Samhita granthas. It is particularly a degenerative as well as obstructive disorder caused by vitiated Vata in weight bearing joints of the body. In the old age all Dhatus undergoes Kshaya, thus leading to Vataprakopa and making individual prone to many disease, among them Sandhigata Vata is one of them. In modern system of medicine, it is closely resembling with Osteoarthritis, which is due to destruction of articular cartilage, synovial fluid and synovial cavity of large joints. Most commonly affected joints are knee joints. It limits daily activities such as walking, dressing etc. Thus making individual handicapped. Management of osteoarthritis is not appropriate and satisfactory in modern medicine, mainly analgesics, Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or surgery are options for the management of Osteoarthritis. These don’t give satisfactory relief and also causes adverse effect. Ayurveda has a ray of hope to such patients because of its holistic approach of cure and prevention of disturbances in physiology. Rasona Rasayana may play key role in prevention of osteoarthritis because it acts as anti-inflammatory, lipid lowering property. It also a prime medicine on Vata Vyadhi.","PeriodicalId":118022,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Biological & Scientific Opinion","volume":"31 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114133800","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study was done to explore the potential role of Rukn Nār in contexts of the biological and medical analogy. Literature related to Rukn Nār was surveyed from various classical Unani books, journals, proceedings and internet. An attempt was made to compile the views regarding Rukn Nār and to explain the concept in context of biological and medical paradigms, and how Rukn Nār became the integral part of the Unani System of Medicine. After surveying and interpreting the literature, it infers that Rukn Nār has substantial role in continuation of life, and it should be interpreted as a form of energy.","PeriodicalId":118022,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Biological & Scientific Opinion","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131042890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current approach to manage primary open angle glaucoma are primarily based on reduction of intraocular pressure, its most significant controllable risk factor. It is being increasingly felt that IOP lowering approach needs to be supplemented by measures which can deal with all the known factors involved in pathogenesis of glaucoma. Even in patients those who respond well to IOP lowering drugs, it is more rational to adopt an integrated approach which takes care of multiple risk factors for glaucoma. This type of glaucoma can be correlated to Kaphaja Adhimantha as there is negligible pain or no pain and give rise to chronic visual defect. Ayurveda can play a significant role in the integrated management of this condition. Hence a minor attempt to correlate the information on pathogenesis available in biomedical system and system of Ayurveda in order to provide an integrated perspective which can form the basis for further interdisciplinary studies.","PeriodicalId":118022,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Biological & Scientific Opinion","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131130160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On observation it is found that our breath flows in either one nostril more than the other. This keeps on alternating in a periodic manner known as Swara i.e. rhythm of life. Hatha Yoga declares “Ha” means sun and “Tha” means moon where the right nostril is Pingala Nadi (sun like) and left nostril is Ida Nadi (moon like). This breathing is known as Prana Vayu (Vata) in Ayurved and Prana (life force) in Yogic scriptures. The physiology of breathing can be grasped clearly after analyzing the Autonomic Nervous System. Yoga advocates that by breath regulation (Pranayam) diseases can be cured and this comes under Adravyabhuta chikitsa (non-medicinal therapy) in Ayurveda. Food and Drug is either anabolic or catabolic in nature and their post digestion effect not only affects the fundamental constituents (Doshas) of the body but also results in shifting of the breath from one nostril to the other. Apart from medicines the body is capable of healing itself by homeostasis. Now it is time to put the ancient Yogic scripture under investigation to know how one can regulate his breathing consciously and achieve a balanced State of Body, Senses & Mind to establish social wellbeing at large.","PeriodicalId":118022,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Biological & Scientific Opinion","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125611196","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
