Coufal","doi":"10.1109/EPE.2019.8778030","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/EPE.2019.8778030","url":null,"abstract":"The designed mathematical model of the intensively blasted electric arc burning inside the arc heater anode channel is based on the energy and mass conservation laws and Ohm's law. With the aim of decreasing the computational burden and making the model easy to understand for students, simplifying presumptions are included. Validity of them could be impaired when the model is applied with experimental data obtained under very different operational conditions. Thus, verification of the model should be made with the data measured in a wide range of gas flow rate, input power, radius and length of the anode channel, etc. In this contribution, attention is focused on the influence of the working gas flow rate, which is crucial for cooling and stabilization of the arc. Axial distributions of the arc temperature, radius and potential drop are computed for two argon flow rates differing by 100 percent, with other operational conditions unchanged. The performance of overhead power lines depends on their parameters. An important parameter of the power line in the power system is its thermal limit. This article deals with the temperature calculation of overhead power line ACSR conductors according to the methodology stated in CIGRE technical brochure 207. The calculated temperature is also verified by the measurement on a real power line. At the end of the article the maximum allowable current (ampacity) of ACSR conductors depending on climatic conditions is also calculated. Analysis of a generator's output current signature can yield information regarding its status. This paper proposes an approach based on the DC component of the generator's output voltage to determine whether it is sinusoidal or complex and to generate a binary signal to flag which condition applies. An Arduino microcontroller is used to make that determination and to generate a PLC compatible signal to flag the results. A series of experiments was carried out in order to test the capability of the proposed system over a range of harmonics. Trends are moving to utilization of so-called advanced inverters. Main contribution of the paper lies in creating the model of such inverter, what is further described together with its implementation using Matlab Simulink software and Simscape Electrical componets library. Validation of model results with measured one is also provided. An example of using the model in a simulation for assessing the increase in voltage when connecting a photovoltaic with a conventional inverter compared to connecting using an inverter with advanced functions is shown. Furthermore, a selected atypical topology of bidirectional charger is described. This topology allows single-stage power transmission, which reduces switching losses and circuit complexity. The high power density determines the chargers to be used in electric vehicles, becoming important parts of smart grids. The measurement system is composed of hardware and software that evaluates the total transistor losses from instantaneous values. The hardware part consists of a test board that includes a power supply, transistor driver, measurement points, transistor, freewheel diode and oscilloscope. The software part (GUI) is done in Matlab, which displays the measured voltage and current waveforms and the calculated transistor losses.
