It helps prevent unwanted pregnancies, minimizes human-stray animal conflicts, and curtails the spread of diseases transmitted through mating. However, this practice has sparked debates among veterinarians and pet owners due to potential adverse effects. Surgical and anesthetic complications, including hypothermia and hypoglycemia, are concerns during pediatric procedures. There is also a possibility of altered development of secondary sexual characteristics, although these changes typically do not impact the animals' overall well-being. Metabolically, neutered cats tend to gain weight, raising the risk of obesity and diabetes mellitus. Skeletal concerns involve delayed bone closure, yet bone density remains largely unaffected. Lower urinary tract issues, like incontinence or obstruction, may also arise, albeit through complex mechanisms. Despite these concerns, the benefits of pre-pubertal castration in managing overpopulation and reproductive diseases outweigh the risks. With vigilant veterinary care and post-operative management, adverse effects can be mitigated, underscoring the importance of this practice in controlling stray cat populations.","PeriodicalId":114917,"journal":{"name":"Revista Agraria Academica","volume":"3 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140520073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, the objective was to evaluate the use of substrates based on decomposed Babassu stems in the production of Cupuaçu seedlings. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse in the municipality of Presidente Juscelino - MA. A completely randomized design was used with 6 treatments containing different proportions of Babassu decomposed stem (BDC). The biometric parameters of the Cupuaçu tree were evaluated. CBD significantly influenced the initial growth of the Cupuaçu tree. Plant height and stem diameter obtained the best results at 44.84% and 63.5% of CBD, respectively. Root length and root volume had the best results at 100% CBD. The plant height/root length ratio had its best performance at 0% CBD. It is concluded that the decomposed Babassu stem promotes the initial development of Cupuaçu seedlings.","PeriodicalId":114917,"journal":{"name":"Revista Agraria Academica","volume":"19 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140522576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Amazonas, cultivation is based on seeds from specialized companies, purchased on the local market. However, family farmers multiply and conserve seeds of traditional varieties. The objective of this work was to characterize a variety of cucumber from Benjamin Constant, Alto Solimões, Amazonas, describing it based on its morphological, phenological and agronomic characteristics. The variety has peculiar phenological and agronomic characteristics, such as a concentrated harvest (45 days) and a short cycle (105 days). The dimensions (20.1 cm x 6.7 cm), the weight (525.8 g) and the taste free of bitterness of the fruits, at the point of horticultural maturity, are outstanding attributes in the variety.","PeriodicalId":114917,"journal":{"name":"Revista Agraria Academica","volume":"126 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139345271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ability of the plant to express resistance to a given phytopathogen is strongly affected by mineral nutrition. The mechanisms leading to these mineral nutrient-induced changes in disease development are complex and include effects directly on the pathogen, the host and the environment. In the present review, studies on the effect of macro- and micronutrients on plant disease intensity are presented, showing the need for understanding this interaction for the correct establishment of integrated management measures.","PeriodicalId":114917,"journal":{"name":"Revista Agraria Academica","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139343889","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objectives of the study were to analyze information from scientific articles/journalistic articles on infection and transmission of coronavirus in animals and from these to humans, and from that to guide tutors on pet care in relation to COVID-19, also opposing, the fake news published. The following descriptors were used: “coronavirus animals”, “SARS-Cov-2 animals”, in English and Portuguese, published from 2020 to 2022. The search index databases were Google Scholar, Scielo, Pubmed and Scopus. The selected articles showed that the evidence is limited regarding the action of animals in the epidemiological chain of COVID-19, and there is not enough scientific evidence that they can be transmitters to people. And even though some animals have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, there are no confirmed cases of transmission between these animal species and humans. Thus, it is believed that these bibliographic findings are relevant, due to the need to increase the knowledge of tutors about COVID-19 in dogs and cats, thus avoiding the spread of false news about the epidemiological role of pets.","PeriodicalId":114917,"journal":{"name":"Revista Agraria Academica","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122082654","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study is to report the prevalence of intestinal helminths and protozoa and stablish the principal endoparasites in domestic dogs in the city of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. Fecal samples were collected from 1400 dogs during the years 2013-2019 and analyzed at the Helminths Laboratory of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. In total, 316 (22,6%) samples were positive for the least one parasite genus, with rates of 62,4%, 43,8%, 23,8%, 14,6%, 8,8%, 18,3% and 30,8%, respectively for the years 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. The positivity rate for monoinfected dogs was 86,4% (273/316) and 13,6% (43/316) for polyparasited dogs, especially Ancylostoma spp. The results reinforce the need to improve intestinal parasite control programs to protect dogs and humans and the need to increase the knowledge of dog tutors on the subject.","PeriodicalId":114917,"journal":{"name":"Revista Agraria Academica","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126861387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
