It presents as neonatal meningitis mostly in preterms as they have low immunity. Antibiotics which have shown effectiveness against this organism includes cefepime, tazobactam, piperacillin, cotrimoxazole, tigecycline, minocycline, quinolones and drugs active against gram positive bacteria such as vancomycin and rifampicin. Intraventricular therapy use has been limited owing to drug toxic effect. Seizures, hearing loss and chemical ventriculitis had been reported mostly as short term side effect. Long term side effect needs more follow up studies. Here we report a preterm newborn having E.meningoseptica ventriculitis showing improvement with intraventricular vancomycin without any short term adverse effect in first 6 months of life.","PeriodicalId":113191,"journal":{"name":"Pediatrics & Neonatal Biology Open Access","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128879598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A review of the literature is carried out on the infectious and epidemiological characteristics of L. monocytogenes infection, as well as its clinical presentation and repercussions during the gestational period and in the neonatal stage. Discussion: neonatal listeriosis is a highly lethal disease, whose epidemiology is not clearly described at the national and regional level, which makes it difficult to create prevention strategies in high-risk groups. It is suggested to make this infection a mandatory notification event to allow the identification of risk factors, lethality, outcome and usual presentation of this infectious disease in Colombia","PeriodicalId":113191,"journal":{"name":"Pediatrics & Neonatal Biology Open Access","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131610148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results of clinical – laboratory investigations including immunologic and morphological examinations have been presented and also the role of computer tomography in the diagnostic of intraosteal pathology has been proved. Patients were divided into 2 groups, the first one has got traditional surgical treatment and the second one has got surgical treatment due to elaborated method. The proposed tactic of surgical treatment consists in careful exfoliation of the periosteum from the bone, longitudinal osteotomy, sequesternecroectomy with full restoration of the structure of the bone-marrow canal along the whole length, lavage and ultrasound cavitation with antiseptic solution. The performed surgical tactic secured the most radical sanation of the osteomyelitic foci and improved the treatment results of this severe pathology.","PeriodicalId":113191,"journal":{"name":"Pediatrics & Neonatal Biology Open Access","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125566872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Breastfeeding is one of the key interventions that will help in achieving the sustainable development goals. Health professionals have been identified as a high risk group for early cessation of breast feeding. Work has been noted to be the major factor that interferes with breastfeeding. Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) is a baby friendly hospital. A number of studies have been conducted on mother practices but none has been on the health care professionals. Objective: The st udy explored breastfeeding practices during first six months by nurses and doctors working at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). Methodology: Using a self administered semi - structured questionnaire we explored the practices and perceptions regarding exclusi ve breastfeeding female health professionals who had a child below age of 3 years Results: Of the 160 questionnaires issued, 139 were valid for analysis. Of these 49 were residents and 90 were nurses. The median age for doctors was 31 years and that of nur ses was 35 years. Initiation of breastfeeding within the first hour was 69.5% and 22% gave prelacteal feeds. The median duration of exclusive breastfeeding was 5 months. However, exclusive breastfeeding was 99.3% during the first three months was 94.9% at four months, 64.2% at 5 months, and 29.2% at 6 months. Sixty three percent thought 6 month exclusive breastfeeding was actually practical. After maternity leave, 81.3% reported a decrease in the amount of br eastmilk but 66.7% made effort to ensure that their babies continued to get breastmilk. Only 46% had special consideration on duty allocation on return to work. Conclusion: Only 29.2% exclusively breastfeed for 6 months and there was little consideration o n allocation of duties when back to work. Effort to avail a breastfeeding friendly work environment needs to be made to rectify this.","PeriodicalId":113191,"journal":{"name":"Pediatrics & Neonatal Biology Open Access","volume":"171 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132817149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In 2017, 1090 cases of NAS were reported to the State of Tennessee surveillance program. The incidence of NAS in Tennessee since early 2000s has increased 10-fold, while the national average over the same time period has only increased 3-fold, with the highest rate of increase between 2000-2012. Currently, buprenorphine is a predominant drug of opioid exposure in our region. In this review article, authors describe the incidence of NAS, changing trends, clinical presentation, management protocols and long-term outcomes of infants exposed to buprenorphine. We reviewed the literature, in terms of clinical presentation, changing trends in drug use in pregnancy and choice of drugs available for the management of NAS.","PeriodicalId":113191,"journal":{"name":"Pediatrics & Neonatal Biology Open Access","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132910229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Purpose: To define causes of complications and relapses after surgical treatment of children with obliteration of the peritoneal vaginal process. Material and methods: The authors present su rgical treatment outcomes of 1 818 children with the pathology of peritoneal vaginal process; 32 of these had postoperative complications and relapses. Two clinical observations of children aged 10 and 14 years who underwent surgery for the recurrence of i nguinal hernia and hydrocele are described. Results: The rate of relapses or complications following surgical treatment of children with inguinal hernia, hydrocele and cryptorchidism at the Clinical and Research Institute of Emergency Pediatric Surgery and Trauma ranges from 1.5 % to 2.3%. Conclusion: The main reason for complications and relapses in the pathology discussed is the violation of surgical protocol.","PeriodicalId":113191,"journal":{"name":"Pediatrics & Neonatal Biology Open Access","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126129546","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
