In this case report, we present a rare case of ectopic pleomorphic adenoma of the nose, review the epidemiology and pathology of this neoplasm, and address concerns for recurrence and malignant transformation. The pathology report noted a diagnosis of benign mixed tumor (pleomorphic adenoma). Methods: A single case was reviewed for this case study. The patient is an 11 year old female who presented with a soft, mobile mass on her nasal bridge. Results: The mass was excised under general anaesthesia and sent for pathology evaluation. The pathology report noted a diagnosis of benign mixed tumor (pleomorphic adenoma). Other cases of heterotopic pleomorphic adenomas have been described in the literature, including in the breast, lung, and skin. Conclusions: In evaluation of facial masses, the rare diagnosis of heterotopic pleomorphic adenoma should remain low on the list of differential diagnoses. However, should pathology reveal this diagnosis, the physician may be reassured by the benign nature and good post-excision prognosis of this pathology, while remaining aware of the possibility of recurrence or malignant transformation.","PeriodicalId":11183,"journal":{"name":"Current Pediatric Research","volume":"25 1","pages":"332-333"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70026776","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, parents’ perceptions of their children’s Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) could influence healthcare utilization in regards to children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and their families. Objectives: Our goal was to assess the level of agreement between children with CP and their parent’s perception of HRQOL by using the PedsQL™ 3.0 instrument in Arabic. Materials and Methods: a cross-sectional study involving a convenient sample of 29 children with CP (mean age of 10.3 ± 1.5 years old) and their parents/caregivers filled the electronic version of the PedsQL™ 3.0 Cerebral Palsy Module in Arabic. The data was analysed via Pearson’s Correlation Co-efficient (PCC) and Intraclass Correlations Coefficient (ICC). Results: We found a strong to moderate positive correlation between child self-reports and parent proxy-reports in the Daily Activity (r=0.58, p<0.001); Movement and Balance (r=0.61, p<0.001); and Eating Activities (r=0.58 p<0.001). A moderately positive correlation was found in the Speech and Communication scale (r=0.48, p<0.001) of PedsQL™ 3.0. There was no significant correlation in the School Activity, Fatigue, and Pain and Hurt scales. The parents/caregivers significantly underestimated their children’s QOL in the School Activity, Pain and Hurt, and Movement and Balance scales. Conclusion: An acceptable level of agreement was found in certain PedsQL™ 3.0 scales. However, we found a tendency for parents/caregivers to underestimate their child’s QOL. Future studies should include a larger sample size and validate the Arabic translation of the PedsQL™ 3.0.","PeriodicalId":11183,"journal":{"name":"Current Pediatric Research","volume":"69 1","pages":"362-365"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70027302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aberrations in CRLF2 activate the JAK-STAT signaling pathway that contributes to B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL). The prognostic significance of CRLF2 overexpression in various B-ALL risk subgroups has not been well established. Methods: Thirty patients with newly diagnosed childhood B-ALL were enrolled from the Egyptian population. All the patients in this study were assessed by detailed history taking, a complete clinical examination required radiological and routine laboratory investigations, and flow cytometry to detect the subtype of ALL. Peripheral Blood and bone marrow samples were taken from patients, and the CRLF2 expression was measured using RT-PCR. Results: The prevalence of CRLF2 overexpression status was analyzed, and the prognostic impact of CRLF2 overexpression on B-ALL was evaluated by assessing their influence on overall survival and event-free survival. CRLF2 overexpression was found in 56% of the whole cohort. The results showed that CRLF2 overexpression was associated with a poor outcome in unselected B-ALL. Conclusion: From the present study's findings, we can conclude that CRLF2 gene expression at diagnosis has a significant prognostic impact on the clinical outcome in childhood ALL.","PeriodicalId":11183,"journal":{"name":"Current Pediatric Research","volume":"25 1","pages":"575-578"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70027751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A search was made in PubMed by putting search term ‘Recurrent Wheezing in Children Diagnosis and Management’ and ‘Recurrent Wheezing in Children’. The respiratory syncytial virus induced bronchiolitis and rhinovirus infection in preschool children may lead to recurrent wheezing in preschool children. In infant immune system is immature and depends mainly on TLR ligation and maternal derived antibodies. Anti-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-10 and TGF beta are more common. RSV NS1 and NS2 proteins target RLR and TLR 3 dependent signaling and suppress the cellular response to RSV replication .This can lead to Th2 like response leading to asthma and allergy. CDHR3 acts as receptor in rhinovirus C infection. RV infection causes increase in IL 25 and IL 33 both induce Th2 type of immunity by increasing IL5 and IL 13 Daily Inhaled Corticosteroids (ICS) have been found useful in preventing exacerbations. Evidence is inconclusive about intermittent inhaled corticosteroids, intermittent montelukast and daily montelukast in recurrent wheezing. Azithromycin started early may decrease duration of wheezing episode. About intravenous magnesium sulfate and hypertonic saline evidence is inconclusive. Vitamin D supplementation in preterm babies for 6 months and avoidance of cow’s milk for first three days of life may be useful in prevention of recurrent wheezing in preschool children.","PeriodicalId":11183,"journal":{"name":"Current Pediatric Research","volume":"25 1","pages":"616-622"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70028085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chest X-rays take time to implement and interpret. Pulmonary ultrasonography has been developed as a diagnostic modality for neonatal respiratory distress syndrome. The objective of this study is to analyze the comparison of chest X-ray examination and lung ultrasound in the diagnosis of respiratory distress syndrome in preterm neonates. Study design: This study was conducted from July until September 2019. Lung ultrasound was performed on 33 preterm neonates with gestational age ≤ 34 weeks. The x-ray instrument used was the Sirius star mobile x-ray unit, and the ultrasound device used was the GE V-Scan dual probe. Statistical analysis test was carried out using the McNemar and Kappa test. Results: Subjects with mean gestation age of 29.64 weeks and birth weight of 1,230 grams. The A-line abnormality was seen in 4 samples. Accompanied by a double lung point image and alveolarinterstitial syndrome. There was no lung pulse or pleura effusion in all samples. The Mc Nemar statistical test value stated that there was no significant difference between the two instruments, with a significant Kappa result of p<0.05 and a value of 0.633. Conclusion: Lung ultrasound can be used as a more rational approach to diagnosing and treating Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS).","PeriodicalId":11183,"journal":{"name":"Current Pediatric Research","volume":"25 1","pages":"570-574"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70028125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both prematurity and enteral feeding are major risk factors for NEC. This interventional two armed, double blinded randomized controlled clinical trial (IIb) study was to determine the role of Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) in preventing or lessening the severity of necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm/low birth weight neonates. Methods: One group (n=20) was assigned to receive DHA and the other received the placebo. Results: Platelets activating factor was significantly higher in neonates who received DHA supplements (p<0.001). As regards the incidence of feeding intolerance, our results demonstrated a significant statistical improvement among neonates of DHA group; regarding abdominal girth, intestinal sound, gastric residual, passage of stool and modified NEC BELL’S criteria (P<0.05). SNAP score for evaluation of sepsis was evaluated initially and 10 days later for both groups where, it increased from 9.6 to 19.2 among patients of group B and decreased from 14.4 to 8.3 among neonates of group A (P<0.001 and 0.001) respectively.
