In this text, we have attempted to analyze to what extent the contemporary normalization paradigm, which assumes the necessity of treating every person with the dignity that belongs to them, while respecting their rights, translates into social perceptions of people with intellectual disabilities. For this we used a diagnostic survey, conducted among non-humanities (technical programs) students, i.e. young adults with theoretically less knowledge of psychology, sociology, or pedagogy, which could significantly affect what they think about people with intellectual disabilities. In the text, we also touched on social barriers, social tasks, and opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.","PeriodicalId":111686,"journal":{"name":"Studia Edukacyjne","volume":"268 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139250683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I will start by presenting the origins and essence of the cultural model of disability. Next, I will characterize the four main assumptions underlying this model: 1) disability can be understood differently in different cultures, 2) people perceive disability through the prism of the experiences they have acquired in their culture, 3) the understanding of disability depends on the type of discourse that constitutes its meaning, 4) the commonly unquestionable “efficiency” usually referred to as “normality” should be questioned. In the second part of the article, I will discuss the most important implications of the cultural model of disability for the theory and practice of special education.","PeriodicalId":111686,"journal":{"name":"Studia Edukacyjne","volume":"156 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139250831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Implementing health promotion principles was particularly essential in educational settings, where the possibility of infection was high. Simultaneously, only limited empirical studies have addressed school principals’ perspectives on implementing health promotion issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, this study aims to examine the differences in implementing health promotion principles in schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results come from an online cross-sectional survey conducted in eight provinces of Poland from June to December 2021. The study was part of a global school principal health literacy survey under the COVID-HL Network. Research results have shown that schools in the Health Promoting Schools network tend to implement the whole-school approach to health more often. In addition, the longer the school belongs to the network, the more health promotion activities are implemented. It can be assumed that school principals play a crucial role in implementing health promotion principles in schools. Therefore, their health awareness and interest in health matters are essential for effectively promoting health in schools.","PeriodicalId":111686,"journal":{"name":"Studia Edukacyjne","volume":"49 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139250779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The role of technology in contemporary society is constantly growing. The COVID-19 pandemic makes us aware of how elementary and fundamental presence is. Encounter as a pedagogical category shows many dimensions and educational benefits. Peer mediation offers a constructive approach to peer conflict, resolving it through meeting and conversation in the presence of an impartial and neutral mediator (school peer). A mediation session teaches responsibility for the decisions taken and creates a sense of agency. Mediation is conducive to the development of key competences in the postmodern world.","PeriodicalId":111686,"journal":{"name":"Studia Edukacyjne","volume":"128 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139252231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

FC Barcelona is one of the greatest clubs around the world, with numerous fans. The footballers of FC Barcelona are very popular, too, and many supporters follow them on social media. It means that footballers can become a kind of authorities for the fans, and their statements may be considered as an inspiration or model to find and explore self-identity, the value of the region in their lives, etc. The paper analyzes media interviews with the Catalan footballers of FC Barcelona and the identity and regional contexts found there. The results can be used as an introduction to research about the role of a footballer’s authority in a fan’s life and as reference materials for teachers in regional education and interculturalism.","PeriodicalId":111686,"journal":{"name":"Studia Edukacyjne","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139254064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was conducted between January and March of 2023 and the data was collected through a quantitative method via a diagnostic survey. The sample comprised 62 speech therapists with varying levels of work experience and geographical locations. The outcomes indicated that speech therapists generally held a negative opinion of remote speech therapy, perceiving it as more problematic and limiting than beneficial. Most respondents had not participated in online training or courses aimed at improving their qualifications in remote speech therapy, which could potentially influence their attitudes towards it. The study suggests the need to develop and share practical tips on remote speech therapy to better prepare specialists for a possible transition to remote modes of service delivery.","PeriodicalId":111686,"journal":{"name":"Studia Edukacyjne","volume":"51 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139251939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Internet users like to publish their views online, often remaining anonymous. Virtual discussions often concern controversial topics, suicide included. The anonymity enables people to present their views bluntly. The aim of this study was to analyze Internet users’ comments on a teenager’s suicide. The content was examined in terms of categories of comments, ways of expression of Internet users and division into types of comments. The study was conducted using the content analysis method. The author analyzed 144 comments and 507 reactions following a post on one social network. The study helped identify two sections of comments. One included opinions on suicide (divided into categories: empathic, informative, condolence, interpretative, other). Users posting comments in this section expressed empathy and sympathy for the victim’s family. The other group of Internet users published negative and hurtful content in relation to this particular case and to suicides in general. The second section of comments concerned the responses of Internet users to one controversial entry that provoked a heated discussion. One user’s opinion indicated a negative attitude, lacking in empathy for the teenager’s suicide. The response focused on the dispute referring to the above attitude of the Internet user, ignoring the substance of the entry. The study justifies a conclusion that Internet users express their opinions on topics that are considered socially taboo. They are not afraid to air their feelings and take part in difficult conversations.","PeriodicalId":111686,"journal":{"name":"Studia Edukacyjne","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131323324","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
