This paper reflects on the issues encountered during testing and the investigation into potential degradation mechanisms and causes of the failure.\u0000 Excessive leakage of the valve seat was experienced after a very low number of operating cycles and short test duration. Visual inspection of the valve identified damage to the weld deposited, cobalt-based alloy (Co – 25Cr – 5W – 1C) contact faces of the main seat. A metallurgical examination of the damaged surfaces subsequently concluded the most likely cause to be flow erosion-corrosion. This was supported by a literature review of valve seat failures and laboratory studies on wear and degradation of cobalt-based alloys.\u0000 An unrelated failure had occurred earlier in the development test programme, which is believed to have introduced a minor surface defect onto the valve seat face. It is believed that this defect created the conditions required for flow erosion-corrosion to occur.\u0000 Furthermore, the investigation concluded that given the right environmental conditions and surface defect, flow erosion-corrosion of cobalt-based alloy (Co – 25Cr – 5W – 1C) can occur rapidly. This can cause extensive surface damage over a very short duration, resulting in excessive valve seat leakage. This highlights the importance of pre-service Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) of Pressure Relief Valve seating faces, specifically the allowable acceptance criteria and method applied.\u0000 The results of the metallurgical examination and literature review are presented, along with the investigation into the cause of the observed damage to the valve seating faces.","PeriodicalId":111167,"journal":{"name":"Volume 5: Operations, Applications, and Components; Seismic Engineering; ASME Nondestructive Evaluation, Diagnosis and Prognosis (NDPD) Division","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126402651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main steam crossover piping is laid between the nuclear building with the isolation system and the turbine building without the isolation system. A large displacement of the nuclear building with the isolation system is imposed on the crossover piping, which situation is a particular seismic issue because of the isolation system employment. Furthermore, because the SFR operates at elevated temperatures compared with light water reactors, the crossover steam piping design must comply with the design code for elevated temperature components. In this study, seismic evaluation using an example of a crossover piping layout was performed in accordance with the elevated temperature code of Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers. Due to the multi-layer structure of the hydrogen storage cylinder, nondestructive testing of the cylinder is facing great challenges and the nondestructive testing methods given in the standard are mainly internal and external surface testing by using visual inspection or an endoscope, causing that many internal defects cannot be identified. Industrial computed tomography is able to intuitively display three-dimensional information of the examined object, and thus this technology is expected to detect internal defects of the cylinders. In this study, the loading system of the cylinder, including limit plates, support blocks and support columns, was designed and manufactured. The industrial computed tomography test method with the use of a filter was established, and the delamination defects at the cylinder neck, shoulder, and cylindrical shell were systematically researched. It was found that the delamination defect width at the neck was the largest, followed by the defect width at the shoulder, and the defect width at the cylindrical shell was the smallest. In addition, the whole cylinder was detected by using spiral scan, demonstrating that this test method had the potential to be a common tool to monitor the cylinder defects.","PeriodicalId":111167,"journal":{"name":"Volume 5: Operations, Applications, and Components; Seismic Engineering; ASME Nondestructive Evaluation, Diagnosis and Prognosis (NDPD) Division","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122964704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, it describes the use of a sensor array for the integrated risk-aware navigation in industrial plants at risk of NaTech accidents. The integration of structural and environmental risks estimated and measured in different ways is presented as part of an integrated risk identification and evaluation (RIE) module. This module will be used along with a series of logic to combine and map the possible risks spatially within an industrial plant’s layout. It is seen how this information can then be used to not only compute the safest path to safety for a worker located within such a plant but also how mobile communications can be used to aid and guide them in different scenarios. All of this stems from the use of a sensor array network in a relatively novel way within this particular context. It has shown its advantages over the other electromagnetic non-destructive evaluation (ENDE) techniques in the detection and characterization of deeper defects. In this paper, a new RFEC transducer is designed for plate defect detection. The optimal sensor design scheme is obtained by comparing and analyzing the material and composition of the sensor shield structure through numerical simulation. Then, the identification and quantitative analysis of the detection signals is studied. The defect detection experiment is carried out to prove the effectiveness of the transducer. The results show that fitting relationship between the phase of the sensor detection signal and the defect depth are the quadratic function. The defect depth can be quantitatively analyzed by the phase of the detection signal. This inline inspection tool has the advantage of light weight and lower friction force, which lead to a comparative lower driving/pulling force. It can detect the metal loss on the inner wall of pipelines and weld misalignment of girth welds while realizing geometry inspection.\u0000 By comparing the inspection results with the high-resolution magnetic flux leakage inline inspection results, it is concluded that the inspection tool combined with the eddy current and deformation technology inline inspection technology can replace the high-resolution magnetic flux leakage inline inspection tool when focusing on the inner metal loss of pipe wall.","PeriodicalId":111167,"journal":{"name":"Volume 5: Operations, Applications, and Components; Seismic Engineering; ASME Nondestructive Evaluation, Diagnosis and Prognosis (NDPD) Division","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115923751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the same time, new developments are difficult to sanction in the current market, and platforms life extension is an excellent way to meet increased demand. There are new fields to be exploited where an existing platform from another field could be reused economically. With the squeeze on capital expenditures, there is now incentive to find economical ways to extend the life of existing production facilities. In addition, the industry is being increasingly challenged with lowering the carbon footprint of barrel produced. Selection of the most suitable strategy among a wide range of potential options to extend the lifetime of equipment remains a challenging task. In order to tackle this challenge, it is crucial to develop analytical tools and methods capable to anticipate actions and costs required to keep the equipment operational at an adequate level of integrity for the expected life time of the asset. The loss of production capacity and economic losses are not only influenced by direct damages that occur to a facility due to earthquakes, but also they are highly related to recovery process. Recovery process is a function of plant preparedness, recovery plan, and its applicability. In order to have a clear view of economic losses in a process plant in case of seismic events, plant resilience can be useful. Consequently, this paper presents a comprehensive framework for the quantification of seismic resilience of a process plant, at plant level. After the introduction of resilience definition and process plant resilience metrics, a probabilistic methodology for calculation of seismic resilience of plant is presented; furthermore, scenario-based analysis for calculation of risk and resilience metrics is introduced and explained. Finally, case study of a black carbon plant is used to show the applicability of scenario-based analysis for calculation of risk and resilience performance metric. Resilience index, expected annual losses and operational capacity curve are used as performance metrics for process plant. The proposed methodology is the first steps toward a risk and resilience targeted design/assessment of process plants under seismic loading.","PeriodicalId":111167,"journal":{"name":"Volume 5: Operations, Applications, and Components; Seismic Engineering; ASME Nondestructive Evaluation, Diagnosis and Prognosis (NDPD) Division","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134532981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, the natural frequency and modal shape of the structure are obtained by identifying modal parameters of the structure using Eigensystem Realization Algorithm (ERA). Then, the simulation model is established by SolidWorks, and imported into ANSYS for modal analysis. Compared with the bench test, the results show that the errors between dynamic characteristic of modal simulation and modal test are acceptable, which verify the accuracy of simulation model. Finally, the fatigue life of fuel tank is analyzed by frequency domain analysis method in ANSYS nCode DesignLife. The results show that the weak position of the oil tank vibration is always unchanged under multiple power spectral density (PSD) spectrum types, and its life decreases with the increase of PSD amplitude at low frequency.
