Bipolar patients may experience cognitive impairment at various phases of the illness, even during the euthymic phase of the disease. Aims: To assess cognitive abilities in individuals with bipolar 1 disorder during remission and to investigate the correlation between cognitive functions and the clinical profile and demographic characteristics of the patients. Setting and Design: This is a case-control study involving patients diagnosed with bipolar 1 disorder in the euthymic phase, as per DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. Patients and methods: This study included 36 bipolar 1 disorder patients in the euthymic phase diagnosed according to DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. Also, it included 36 cross-matched healthy individuals as control subjects. Results: Patients with bipolar1 disorder demonstrated considerably lesser cognitive functions during remission than the control group. The bipolr1 disorder severity and recurrence are significantly inversely correlated to cognitive function. Conclusion: Bipolar1 disorder patients frequently have cognitive impairment at all phases of the illness, even during euthymia. Cognitive impairment is frequently seen as a fundamental feature of bipolar disorder. The severity and recurrence of the illness appear to play a key influence in cognitive impairments.","PeriodicalId":110854,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Current Medical Research and Practice","volume":"6 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140519176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Acne and weight gain are thought to be clinical indicators of h yperandrogenism, and it appears that obesity is linked to increased sensitivity to androgenic hormones and more severe acne. To better manage acne sufferers, this research may help uncover any connections between the severity of acne and Body Mass Index (BMI) in adult female patients. Objectives: To determine the relation between BMI and acne severity in adult female acne patients. Methods : This is a one-year case-control study. Informed written consent was taken from 103 females who attended the dermatology, venereology, and andrology outpatient clinic at Assiut University in Assiut, Egypt, between the 1 st of April, 2022, and the 31 st of March, 2023. The case group comprised 53 adult females with acne, whereas 50 age-matched females without acne comprised the control group. The Global Acne Grading System (GAGS) was used to determine the severity of acne. Results: The BMIs of both study groups were comparable. According to the GAGS scale, 19 cases (35.8%) had mild, 18 cases (34.0%) had moderate, 14 cases (26.4%) had severe, and two cases (3.8%) had very severe acne vulgaries. BMI and acne severity showed a significant positive correlation (r=0.542, p<0.001). Conclusions : This study showed that acne severity and BMI are related. Thus, BMI may be related to acne pathogenesis and severity in adult female patients.","PeriodicalId":110854,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Current Medical Research and Practice","volume":"25 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140522726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reporting complications of LASIK surgery will help refine the approach to their management. LASIK was introduced in the late 1980s with the development of the ophthalmic excimer laser [1, 2]. To avoid the disadvantages of photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), LASIK was introduced [3]. LASIK rapidly increased in popularity and became the predominant form of refractive surgery in the late 1990s and continues till today [4]. Correcting different refractive errors, including myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism, is the main aim of all laser refractive procedures. LASIK has been used to treat many degrees of myopia with promising results, and there are great expectations for treating farsightedness. Compared to PRK, LASIK is advantageous in causing minimal postoperative discomfort, rapid restoration of visual clarity and stability of refractive changes, less frequent opacification, and better ability to correct high levels of myopia. Intraoperative complications, although infrequent, include Microkeratome-related flap complications (flap buttonhole, free cap, and incomplete, short, or irregular flaps), corneal perforation, corneal epithelial defect, conjunctival bleeding, subconjunctival hemorrhage, and interface debris [6]. Post-operative Complications include inaccurate correction, visual aberrations, flap striae (macrostriae -microstriae) [6], flap dislocation, dry eye, diffuse lamellar keratitis (DLK), pressure-induced stromal keratitis (PISK), infectious keratitis [7","PeriodicalId":110854,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Current Medical Research and Practice","volume":"51 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140526839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It infects 1.4 million people worldwide annually. Super-infection of HAV on top of chronic viral infections, including HBV, HCV, HIV, and dengue virus, or even chronic non-viral liver disease may affect the natural course of the basic disease and lead to fulminant liver failure and higher mortality rate. Aim of the work: To detect the seroprevalence of previous HAV infection in chronic hepatitis B and C patients in Assiut to clarify its effect on these patients and the different impacts of HAV infection on hepatitis B and hepatitis C patients. Results : 235 patients (94 %) were HAV IgG positive, and 15 (6%) were negative. The Child-Pugh score showed more deterioration in HAV IgG-positive patients than negative patients. Of 235 HAV IgG-positive patients, 160 (68%) were HCV antibody-positive, and 75 (32%) were HBsAg positive. Patients with HAV/HCV have more impaired liver functions and lower Child-Pugh scores than HAV/HBV patients. Conclusion : Our study showed that the prevalence of HAV infection in chronic liver disease patients is very high, as (94%) of them were positive for HAV IgG antibody. Seizures are temporary manifestations arising from an atypical, heightened, or synchronized neural activity within the cerebral cortex. Approximately 2% of emergency department visits are attributed to them. Aim of the Study : This study was to delineate the seizure presentation among patients admitted to the Pediatric department at Al-Arish Central Hospital in North Sinai and to contrast the findings with those of comparable studies conducted nationally and internationally. Furthermore, it provides descriptive information essential for planning future research. Patients and Methods: The present study comprised a cohort of 125 pediatric patients diagnosed with seizures who were admitted to the Pediatric department at Al-Arish Central Hospital in North Sinai for one year, from June 2019 to May 2020. The age range of the individuals was from two months to eighteen years. Results: The etiological analysis conducted indicated that epilepsy was the most prevalent cause of seizures in children, accounting for 45 cases (36.0%). Febrile convulsion was identified as the second most common cause, with 39 cases (31.2%) observed. Valproic acid (62.5%) and Levetiracetam (45.0%) were the prevalent antiepileptic drugs employed. Conclusions: Seizure is a prevalent reason for hospitalization among children, particularly those under the age of five, at the pediatric department of Al Arish Central Hospital in North Sinai. Generalized tonic-clonic seizures are more frequent and have diverse etiologies. Epilepsy was identified as the predominant etiology for seizures, with febrile seizures following as the subsequent cause. The most prevalent types of symptomatic seizures associated with infectious causes of the central nervous system were those attributed to viral encephalitis.","PeriodicalId":110854,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Current Medical Research and Practice","volume":"107 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140526363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
