To understand this subtle service, often called \"Omonpakari,\" we studied a high-end Sushi restaurant using multidisciplinary approach--using neuroscience to analyze the cognitive characteristic, ethno methodology to analyze the interactive structure, and computer science to analyze the social evaluations. The study based on neuroscience showed that the service brain model could explain the cognition of \"Omonpakari\" service regardless of customers' gender, knowledge and the social context. The ethno methodological analysis revealed that customers performed a role, complying with cultural norms and behaving like a culturally appropriate customer even if they might not be. The analysis using computer science techniques showed that expertise was the key factor of evaluation of the services. These findings suggest an alternative model of service in which there is a productive tension, or dialectic, between the provider and the customer.","PeriodicalId":110778,"journal":{"name":"2012 Annual SRII Global Conference","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114540772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In these cross-company service networks, partners are interchangeable and market conditions may shift rapidly. Thus, a need for business process optimization arises, though conventional approaches often cannot be used as company's IT is not process centered. To achieve business process optimization in existing distributed infrastructures, we propose the modular aPro reference architecture, which builds upon existing components. Based on the architecture, we develop a maturity model for process optimization, which may be used to assess the need for change and select necessary measures.","PeriodicalId":110778,"journal":{"name":"2012 Annual SRII Global Conference","volume":"110 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124162032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As drug prices change according to shifting market forces, the distribution of purchase prices for each drug varies according to the type of medication and the purchasing power of the healthcare provider. These changes can have significant impact on how well healthcare providers can effectively provide services. PAC-DSS (Pharmaceutical Acquisition Capability Decision Support Service) is an innovative decision support service that enables hospitals to pool together and share information to better understand current market prices and run analytics on drug prices in order to improve their operating costs. Our service allows users to interact with real pricing data to dissect various factors that can contribute to acquisition capabilities of individual drugs such as specific brand names or groups of drugs such as all brands of a given generic drug, without sacrificing individual providers' privacy as we do not disclose individual purchase prices. In developing PAC-DSS, we have had to address a range of technical challenges such as data privacy and alignment of disparate drug ontologies. In this paper, we describe PAC-DSS's service architecture, analytic services, and the benefit of PAC-DSS on improving healthcare services by lowering operating cost without sacrificing service quality. We also discuss the initial benefits from deployment of the service currently hosted by the Ministry of Public Health.","PeriodicalId":110778,"journal":{"name":"2012 Annual SRII Global Conference","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121978647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Public sector services differ qualitatively from private sector services in that they aim to provide not just value for money but also public value. Generally speaking, public value is created when public organizations successfully meet the needs of citizens. Therefore, public sector ICTs have unique requirements that are not all thoroughly supported by traditional ICTs and their respective design theories. Using public value theory as a theoretical lens, this paper presents a design theory to guide developers of public sector ICTs on how to produce systems which provide public e-services through secure and inclusive information systems. These systems will, in turn, create public value by tackling digital inequality and easing citizens' online privacy concerns. The design theory was created while designing and deploying a digital postal system. By abstracting from the experience of building the system, a design theory for ICTs providing public e-services was formulated. This new design theory is an important theoretical contribution, because it provides guidance, from the perspective of public value provision, to developers and sets an agenda for IS research into public sector information systems design. It achieves this by articulating theory-based principles outlining how public value can be created through the development of appropriate ICTs.","PeriodicalId":110778,"journal":{"name":"2012 Annual SRII Global Conference","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132372161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Of the 1.21 billion people in India, 68.84% live in villages while 31.16% live in towns and urban agglomerations. However, the urban physician-to population ratio is almost six times the concentration of physicians in rural areas. In addition to the dismal presence of registered medical practitioners in rural areas, the density of health workers in India is also less than the WHO norm of 2.5 per 1000 population. Hence, there is a tremendous need to increase the effectiveness of the existing health workers using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Government of India launched National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) to carry out necessary improvements in the basic healthcare delivery system in India. NRHM aims to provide effective healthcare to rural population in the country with trained female community health activists called ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist). The ASHA workers are trained to be an interface between the community and the public health system. Mobile technologies have penetrated rural parts of developing countries such as India unlike any other technology. This can be leveraged to provide primary maternity healthcare services. We have developed a decision support system named iASHA, to enable health workers to provide maternity healthcare services efficiently and transparently. iASHA can be used to register all the pregnancies in rural parts of a country and subsequently track pregnant women throughout the period of pregnancy for vaccination and periodic checkups. Appointment for ultrasonography, etc. may also be scheduled via the mobile application. iASHA system can also be used to \"prevent female feticide\" by identifying the ultrasonography clinic involved in illegally determining sex of the fetus. The system and method to provide effective healthcare services in rural India and also, methodology to prevent female feticide are presented in this paper.","PeriodicalId":110778,"journal":{"name":"2012 Annual SRII Global Conference","volume":"135 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117336534","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The real and perceived risks of providing, accessing and controlling services in multitenant cloud environments can slow or preclude the migration to services by IT organizations. In a non-virtualized environment, the separation provided by physical infrastructure is assumed to provide a level of protection for applications and data. In the cloud, this traditional physical isolation between applications no longer exists. Cloud infrastructure is multi-tenant, with multiple applications utilizing a shared common physical infrastructure. This provides the benefit of much more efficient resource utilization. However, because the physical barriers between applications have been eliminated, it is important to establish compensating security controls to minimize the potential for malware to spread through the cloud. Newer types of malware threats, such as rootkit attacks, can be increasingly difficult to detect using traditional antivirus products. These threats use various methods of concealment to remain undetected as they infect key system components such as hypervisors and drivers. This increases the likelihood that the malware can operate in the background, spread through a cloud environment, and cause greater damage over time. This paper explores challenges in deploying and managing services in a cloud infrastructure from a security perspective, and as an example, discusses work that Intel is doing with partners and the software vendor ecosystem to enable a security enhanced platform and solutions with security anchored and rooted in hardware and firmware to increase visibility and control in the cloud.","PeriodicalId":110778,"journal":{"name":"2012 Annual SRII Global Conference","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132954095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dispoto, I-Jong Lin","doi":"10.1109/SRII.2012.43","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/SRII.2012.43","url":null,"abstract":"Digital commercial print providers are increasingly seeing more and more low-value, very short-run orders as a result of personalization and customization of content. In addition, consolidation due to margin pressure and low turnaround times necessitates a quicker reaction to scenarios such as acquiring additional capacity in the peak season or off-loading capacity during the off-peak season. Traditional tools for negotiating and acquiring customer orders are increasingly becoming prohibitive in this environment due to their high costs and lack of ability to make rapid changes. Tools that use machine readable service level agreements (SLAs) promise easier management of customer orders, but are currently not widely used in manufacturing domains such as digital commercial printing. If SLAs are to appear in manufacturing and other related domains, they will need to deal with both SLA Monitoring and SLA Negotiations in the same framework. Programming languages have long used the concept of Types to guarantee behavior of programs. In this paper we show that there is a deep connection between Types and SLAs. The connection stems from the fact that both the Types as well as the SLAs are inherent guarantees about the run-time behavior. The mapping between Types and SLAs is shown by formulating problems in both the domains using notations which have similar semantics. In particular, we show: 1) SLA Monitoring has a parallel in Type Checking, 2) SLA Negotiation has a parallel in Type Inference, and 3) SLA Inhabitation has a parallel in Type Inhabitation. We also briefly mention how the rich meta-theorems about types such as preservation, progress and replacement theorems can be used to reason about SLAs, especially for services which deliver manufactured products.","PeriodicalId":110778,"journal":{"name":"2012 Annual SRII Global Conference","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133748103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here we revisit the WaaS conceptual meta-model and extend it to enable work decomposition and adjustable management/control of how work is coordinated and how it is done. In particular, we propose a specific WaaS protocol for decomposition, delegation, and control of work engagements, using ideas from the area of Business Artifacts. The goal is to enable simple communication and coordination between requestors and providers of work; and to support clear management and coordination during both planning and enactment of work. Importantly we introduce a new notion of a coordination lifecycle, consisting of loosely coupled milestones, domain-specific information attributes, and sets of abstract observable activities to be performed. Algebraic operations on coordination lifecycles when encapsulated service requests are torn, merged, paused, and resumed are defined and valid operations are specified. The meta-model and protocol are independent from the specific coordination enactment model which may employ centralized coordination, fully distributed coordination, or other models under various optimization objectives.","PeriodicalId":110778,"journal":{"name":"2012 Annual SRII Global Conference","volume":"390 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124652810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
