However, the range of temperature measurement is limited by their periodic nature. The purpose of this research is to improve this situation, and still keep their high sensitivities. We use two interferometers with slightly different sensitivities simultaneously, and the relative phase differences between two fundamental modes in the fibers are measured to determine the temperature. The purpose of extending measurable temperature range is achieved by combining the output signals of those two interferometers.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":110496,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of TENCON '93. In this study, an expert system (ES) which can emulate planner's heuristic knowledge is explored to resolve the various difficulties of OLTP. In realization of the ES, the state space method is adopted for the problem representation. Each state represents the network configuration in the specified time and a state transition represents configuration. The heuristic defined as a sum of the present values of construction cost and the annual operation cost of power system. The latter is defined as the minimized sum, in annual economic operation sense, of total generation fuel cost and failure cost formulated with Linear Programming (LP) method. To find the optimal solution in the state space, the Branch-and-Bound (B&B) technique with the newest-first and the best-first search method using the investment priority index is described. Finally, the developed ES for OLTP is applied to 5-bus/3-year sample planning problem for a case study.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":110496,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of TENCON '93. The utilized network is nonlinear continuous neural network using its associative memory function. We designed this neural network system using an optimal design method. The feature parameters which are inputted into the system to carry out the recognition task are Zernike moments. Through extensive experimentation with translation, scale, rotation as well as distortion (such as cutting off some parts of the inputted image), we can see this system is a high robustness and fault-tolerance image understanding system.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":110496,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of TENCON '93. The basic speech database includes tone syllables, neutral tone syllables and everyday expressions. The rules include pronunciation, tales of words, grammatical rules and semantic feature rules. Based on basic speech database, the description from Chinese characters to speech can be completed by the tales. Perfecting the database is the basis of realizing high qualitative Chinese text-to-speech conversion. As a result, many benchmark examples have been tested on the proposed switchbox router. The routing results on all of these benchmark examples are routed successfully in the routing region. Multiple-pass routing is a technique to make a MIN fault tolerant without adding redundant circuits. The basic idea of multiple-pass routing is to route a packet through a faulty MIN several times, if necessary, until it is delivered to its proper destination. In order to utilize multiple-pass routing schemes, a faulty MIN must possess the dynamic full access (DFA) property. We present a simple procedure for testing the DFA property of a faulty MIN based on a theorem from graph theory. The testing procedure can be applied to find all the subsystems possessing DFA property. Besides, we also introduce the concept of possessing the DFA property within k passes. The shortest path algorithms are applied to check whether or not a faulty MIN possesses the DFA property within k passes.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":110496,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of TENCON '93.
