The participants also had the option of using deictic gestures in addition to the speech modality. We identify common types of errors/issues that led to communication failures and share our observations about how users reacted to these issues. We also present survey data that reflects users' evaluations of the dialogue interfaces and their interactions with the virtual agent.","PeriodicalId":109801,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Human-Agent Interaction","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124838394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By applying a microsociological theory to analyse the process of interaction as it unfolds, our project aims to identify the boundary between cooperativeness and uncooperativeness of the robot in the shared task of a human and a robot carrying an object to a destination. The paper presents the experimental protocol designed based on the microsociological theory that is less known in current human-robot interaction studies. The aim of the experiment is to enable participants to experience expected and unexpected interactions with a robot and to account for how the interaction affects participant interpretation of robot cooperativeness and uncooperativeness.","PeriodicalId":109801,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Human-Agent Interaction","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129097723","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, no framework for organizing the wide range of research areas has yet been concretely developed. In this study, we propose a framework for the design of Human-Agent Interaction. This framework is described as a system consisting of a set of variables that affect HAIs and a function that represents the relationship between these variables. We listed what papers were accepted at the international conference on Human-Agent Interaction in 2019 following a framework of variables on which each study focuses. We argued that approaches that connect variables and elaborate models of human cognitive processes are important for future HAI research.","PeriodicalId":109801,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Human-Agent Interaction","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115206041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a prototype system based on a genetic algorithm that places long term interaction as the core design goal. The goal of this system is to develop stand alone long-term development and provide a platform for future post-processing of deep learning generations. This paper addresses these issues through the domain of musical interaction and improvisation, a field that incorporates dialogue-like interaction built on stylistic constraints. We contend that the objectives of continual knowledge development and building relationships are key to long-term human interaction, and design the genetic algorithm specifically around these concepts. Our eventual goal of the prototype is a future application of post processing for deep learning generative systems.","PeriodicalId":109801,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Human-Agent Interaction","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134343399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To stimulate competition by changing the rank fluctuation of the group, the agents show their activeness in the learning contents and group discussions. Four kinds of action animations of \"work,'' \"break,'' \"look at other groups,'' and \"speak within the group'' were prepared, and each agent performs the actions for each duration corresponding to the progress of the group. The results suggested that the rank fluctuation elevated competitive spirit and learning motivation.","PeriodicalId":109801,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Human-Agent Interaction","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131479991","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We developed an agent, Draft Agent, that was entered into the 2019 Human-Agent league (HAL) of the Autonomous Negotiating Agent Competition (ANAC). We discuss Draft Agent's performance, highlighting where it worked well and aspects that can be further improved. A key feature of Draft Agent is the use of an alternate-issue-selection protocol to model the opponent's preference structure. The learnt preferences are then used to propose a fair, and where possible, win-win deal. Though this approach allows Draft Agent to obtain relatively high individual as well as joint utility, it might be considered somewhat rigid by human users and hence scores comparatively low on the likeability scale. We present a detailed analysis of the comparative performance of Draft Agent and the competing finalists of the HAL competition. We also suggest some options to further improve Draft Agent's performance and likeability.","PeriodicalId":109801,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Human-Agent Interaction","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114842989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, the digital nature of artificial teammates and their restrictive communication and coordination requirements complicate the interaction patterns that exist. In light of this challenge, we create a theoretical framework that details the possible interactions in human-agent teams, emphasizing interactions through groupware, which is based on literature regarding groupware and human-agent teamwork. As artificial intelligence changes and advances, the interaction in human-agent teams will also advance, meaning interaction frameworks and groupware must adapt to these changes. We provide examples and a discussion of the frameworks ability to adapt based on advancements in relevant research areas like natural language processing and artificial general intelligence. The results are a framework that detail human-agent interaction throughout the coming years, which can be used to guide groupware development.","PeriodicalId":109801,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Human-Agent Interaction","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126981746","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such conditions cause low productivity, absence of diseases, and unemployment. In addition, the treatment of mental disorders takes a long time, so routine precautions are essential. One of the ways to prevent mental disorders is to achieve healing through interaction with animals. However, this method has not been widely accepted because of the difficulties in handling animals. To solve these problem, we introduced a virtual pet through a virtual reality technology for three-dimensional stereoscopic visualization as an alternative to animals. We named the system that prevents mental disorders by interacting with the virtual pet as virtual pet-assisted activity (VAA) and verified that this system gained short-term psychological and physiological benefits. However, it was unclear what causes the system to have positive effects on users. This study investigated whether space factors affect the psychological and physiological aspects of the user and whether the scenery factor affected the psychological and physiological aspects of the user and its interactions with the virtual pet. The experiment was divided into two experiments for the space factor and scenery factor. As a result, it was not affected by the space factor but was affected by the scenery factor. The findings reveal that the open scenery is more effective than the closed scenery in the VAA system.","PeriodicalId":109801,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Human-Agent Interaction","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127591968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
