In particular, businesses have been caught flat-footed since it was an unanticipated and unprecedented crisis that impacted the most valuable asset of an organization: human resources. While incorporating the retrospective views on safety and risk management, this chapter tries to explain the significance of establishing a safety management system and developing business continuity planning from a contemporary perspective to protect occupational health and safety and attain organizational resilience in case of a pandemic or disaster. This chapter provides a conceptual overview and better understanding of safety management and business continuity practices to ensure survival and sustainability of organizations. To obtain insight and intersectoral learning, examples are given from the civil aviation sector that has been one of the most vulnerable industries during the pandemic.","PeriodicalId":107758,"journal":{"name":"Handbook of Research on Key Dimensions of Occupational Safety and Health Protection Management","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116939589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is because occupational accidents, workplace injuries, and near misses cost organization both financially and non-financially. The purpose of this chapter is to measure the impact of safety management on safety outcomes via safety commitment to capturing organizational safety in the oil and gas industry of Malaysia. However, data collection was challenging because of COVID-19 and security issues. The convenience sampling method was used to collect data from workers of the department of operation and production from the oil and gas industry of Malaysia. The investigation revealed that safety commitment plays a significant role in enhancing safety outcomes (accidents, injuries, and near misses) in the oil and gas industry. The factors on the individual and organizational levels that influence safety outcomes have been discussed with the aim of developing a safety management model. In the future, this study can be conducted on a large-scale basis to explore other safety management practices.","PeriodicalId":107758,"journal":{"name":"Handbook of Research on Key Dimensions of Occupational Safety and Health Protection Management","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131885797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the selected health indicators, a composite index was created, while the GDP per capita and disposable income were used as indicators of economic development. The results obtained by TOPSIS method show that there is a significant positive relationship between the composite index of health status of the population and indicators of economic development. Therefore, more investment in health care and improvement of living conditions is essential. The average values of composite population health index indicate that the countries of Western Europe on average have the best health status of the population, followed by the Mediterranean countries and the Northern European countries, while the Baltic countries have the lowest average value of the composite population health index.","PeriodicalId":107758,"journal":{"name":"Handbook of Research on Key Dimensions of Occupational Safety and Health Protection Management","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122398079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve this, attention should be focused on developing or improving the safety culture in healthcare. Managers are responsible for the successful functioning of healthcare facilities and the resulting enhanced reporting. Managers achieve their success in an institution through the four core tasks of managers: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Because the core functions of managers affect the success of a facility and, even earlier, the processes within a facility, including the success of adverse event reporting, the chapter reviews the literature on the functions of management in relation to adverse event reporting in healthcare. The content of the chapter will be helpful to all those who are involved in safety incident reporting from the perspective of the core functions of managers and who contribute to their socially responsible behavior and promoting sustainable development.","PeriodicalId":107758,"journal":{"name":"Handbook of Research on Key Dimensions of Occupational Safety and Health Protection Management","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129771888","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the chapter is to emphasize the importance of a managerial, systematic, and integral approach to the management of OHS performance, which is a field often left in the shadow of other performance dimensions. This chapter develops the specific framework of OHS performance management, which is characterized by the four key OHS performance phases: planning, measurement, analysis, and reporting. The proposed conceptual framework and the highlighted key aspects of OHS performance management are intended to aid managers in various industries (with particularly prominent OHS risks and hazards) in the development and implementation of the OHS management system and the OHS performance management system. Their proper implementation is aimed at the accomplishment of OHS goals and the business goals of enterprises in the contemporary business environment.","PeriodicalId":107758,"journal":{"name":"Handbook of Research on Key Dimensions of Occupational Safety and Health Protection Management","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121836343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objective is to determine the welfare policies and identify the most useful measures for improving employee well-being and identify workplace conditions that affect employee well-being. Existing research in employee well-being focuses on identifying how one of the main areas (welfare policies or job conditions) affects an employee's well-being. However, there is a gap in research on employee well-being and the relationships between welfare policies, job conditions, and employee well-being in Slovenia. Therefore, this chapter aims to provide an overview of how welfare policies and job conditions influence employee well-being in Slovenian organizations. Descriptive quantitative research method was used for the study. Data collection of a survey instrument took place from March to July 2020. The authors used a convenience sampling method to recruit the companies. Results of this research show high levels of job satisfaction related to all aspects.","PeriodicalId":107758,"journal":{"name":"Handbook of Research on Key Dimensions of Occupational Safety and Health Protection Management","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125290539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the new circumstances, the knowledge of employees must not be neglected even in situations when the implementation of traditional forms of training is not possible. This put in focus online learning as a method of acquiring knowledge that is cost-efficient and effective. The aim of this chapter is to point out the new circumstances, limitations, and possibilities for the development of e-learning that have arisen as a consequence of the pandemic. The purpose of this chapter is to point out the possibility that the existing situation can be significantly used for the period of normal business that should follow after the stabilization of the pandemic. Perception of employees in companies in Serbia demonstrate that there are possibilities for implementation of online learning. Still, there are differences in point of views depending on certain aspects such as gender or experience in using internet browsers, and this opportunity should be used for enhancement of this tool.","PeriodicalId":107758,"journal":{"name":"Handbook of Research on Key Dimensions of Occupational Safety and Health Protection Management","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127390363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The object of study is special events and the issues caused by their characteristics to concentrate visitors in a certain place for a limited period of time under a planned program. The highlighted issue concerning health, safety, and security in special events is crowd and its management. The author's main thesis is based on the need for a systematic management approach, in which measures are taken for the safety, health, and security of the employees, volunteers, and visitors while planning and conducting an event. This chapter focuses on risk management, which includes identifying potential hazards, risk analysis and risk assessment, measures to prevent or control the risk, as well as developing an action plan. The chapter attempts to provide a comprehensive health, safety, and security risk management framework aimed at special event management and to offer a set of planning and control tools.","PeriodicalId":107758,"journal":{"name":"Handbook of Research on Key Dimensions of Occupational Safety and Health Protection Management","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117348323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This can only be accomplished through systemic thinking by taking into account the plurality of interdependent factors. The aim of the study was to design an original model, which would explain how the occupational safety management (OSM) factors affected working conditions and economic performance of enterprises. The authors conducted an empirical, evidence-based research and found that the enterprises that developed a higher level of OSH consistently met the legal requirements in the area of OSH. Generally, those enterprises that had their own OSH department or committee and introduced OHSAS 18001 provided better working conditions and achieved higher economic performance. The presented model of OSM factors allowed the enterprise leaders and managers, as well as the policy creators to achieve more favorable working conditions, better economic performance of an enterprise, and contribute to a sustainable development of the society and environment.","PeriodicalId":107758,"journal":{"name":"Handbook of Research on Key Dimensions of Occupational Safety and Health Protection Management","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122401494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this chapter is to review the existing model of economic development, because the COVID-19 pandemic has called into question the effects of structural changes in the economy and manufacturing industry in Serbia. The main contribution of this chapter is the review of development results which show that Serbia is in the process of economic recovery, but that it has not yet embarked on the path of sustainable economic development due to numerous structural problems. Serbia has experience with unsustainable economic development, and this is a strong argument in favor of sustainable concept implementation. In addition, this chapter provides empirical research on structural and technological changes. The obtained results can be used by economic and industrial policy makers to influence the consequences of COVID-19 and to avoid the slowdown of structural reforms. There will be numerous economic, environmental, social, and especially health challenges whose solutions must be sustainable.","PeriodicalId":107758,"journal":{"name":"Handbook of Research on Key Dimensions of Occupational Safety and Health Protection Management","volume":"2014 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128257919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
