Leurs connaissances et leur expertise leur permettent d'offrir un service defini en termes de faciliter l'acces a l'information. De plus, le modele presume que la plupart des bibliothecaires travaillent dans des organisations sans but lucratif portant encore tres souvent le nom de bibliotheque. Dans le cadre d'une approche client, le modele identifie un service central, celui de faciliter l'acces a l'information, et propose cinq lignes de service reposant sur l'implication du client au niveau de la production d'un service. Ces lignes de service sont: l'Acces direct (dans la bibliotheque), l'Acces negocie (dans la bibliotheque), l'Acces negocie (a partir d'un endroit exterieur), l'Acces negocie (virtuellement) et l'Acces direct (de maniere virtuelle). Pour chacune de ces lignes de service, des items de service sont proposes. Alors que l'Acces direct repose sur le principe du libre-service, la realisation des differents Acces negocies repose sur le recours a des personnes ou des outils. En dernier lieu, quelques questions de marketing sont examinees brievement.","PeriodicalId":106444,"journal":{"name":"IFLA publications","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124871863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each organisation commenced with the appointment of a specialist adviser on women in development, which led in turn to the drafting and adoption of plans of action on WID. These Advisers also undertook reviews of the reports written by their respective banks. The reviews indicated the rapid progress both organisations made in introducing WID concepts and concerns once they had turned their special attention to the issues involved. Plans of action, written guidelines and further reviews of project reports have been a major contribution to the better understanding by bank staff of these issues. Much of the written reporting on the subject from each organisation has influenced strongly the design and implementation strategies of projects, redirecting the focus of attention of the projects onto women. The development of a widespread application of WID concepts across their operational and research departments has established WID as a basic component of any loan project, so much so in the case of the World Bank that WID has been replaced with Gender Analysis and Policy Formulation (GAP). The valuable reports generated by the two organisations on WID, for the most part, are not available outside of the organisations","PeriodicalId":106444,"journal":{"name":"IFLA publications","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121435323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When we as representatives of library science began to explain our raison d'etre in one of our first meetings, with a little smile, the colleague threw into the debate that the share of documented or published knowledge of the knowledge used in the everyday practice of business and engineering be below 5 per cent, possibly only 1 per cent. Although this figure was almost certainly based on intuition only and not on any kind of measurement, I think that it was in a credible range. So, with such a modest dowry, could libraries and library science find a husband in knowledge management? Is it legitimate in such a situation to christen libraries or documentation departments centres of knowledge organisation or even centres of knowledge management as happens now more and more? And is it sensible if two computer scientists, A. Endres and D. W. Fellner, find it suitable and possible for librarians and libraries at least in firms to even jump to the head of knowledge management movements (Endres/Fellner 2000, p. 426) - in a situation where libraries or information services are not even mentioned in most of the literature on knowledge management?","PeriodicalId":106444,"journal":{"name":"IFLA publications","volume":"14 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120984663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The generic, rule based document analysis technology covers besides newspapers a wide range of different document types such as theses and dissertations, reports, finding aids but also books, journals, etc. The workflow of the retro-conversion process will be automated and simplified to make the digitisation more cost-effective. The rich standardized XML (eXtensible Markup Language) based output increases the added value of digitised documents and enables high quality access and presentation. The above described technology has been successfully used in the research and development project METAe (http://meta-e.uibk.ac.at), funded by the European commission as well as in a retro-conversion project dealing with archival finding aids, funded by the DFG. CAVAL Collaborative Solutions, an Australian library consortium, is managing the pilot project with sponsorship being provided by the iGroup, Asia. CAVAL provides a range of services to its members and customers. These include the collection and publication of library statistics and the provision of consultancy services and professional development and training in Statistics and Library Assessment. In particular CA VAL has managed the collection of the Australian Academic and Research Library Statistics for CAUL (Council of Australian University Librarians) statistics since 1992. In 2004 CAVAL explored options for the development of an online statistics website for the CA UL Statistics and a pilot site was developed, through CAVAL's partnership with the ARL (Association of Research Libraries) and modelled on the well-known ARL online statistics site. Following enthusiastic evaluation by CAUL libraries the pilot site was further developed and the service went live in 2005. Since that time a number of enhancements have been added to the CA UL Statistics Online site. The objectives of the Asian Statistics pilot project are to provide the same functionality as the CAUL Statistics online website for Asian academic libraries; to improve the collection processes for the individual libraries and to develop a sustainable service for statistical benchmarking. Phase 1 of the pilot, during which 2 years worth of data is being collected, loaded and made available for benchmarking from the online website, is almost complete. Twenty-two libraries from four countries in the region - Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong - are participating. Phase 2 will allow for the collection of an additional years data from the participating libraries. The online website and the service will then be evaluated by the participating libraries, the iGroup and CAVAL. The paper concludes with an outline of some of the challenges and issues which have arisen through the Asian libraries pilot project.","PeriodicalId":106444,"journal":{"name":"IFLA publications","volume":"136 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122430998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
